Moving at highway speeds the ENTIRE ride on among the most congested freeways on the planet, let alone the most crowded one in the U.S..; not only was the footage brilliant, but your combination of planning and luck was just off the freaking charts!!!
Out of all the interstates that I've driven on, the 405 is the one that I hate the most. I've only been able to drive on it for more than ten miles twice without dealing with horrible traffic. You are so lucky that you were able to drive the entire length of the 405 without getting stuck in traffic jams.
A full-length ride along the infamous I-405 done the right way! I really enjoyed this one, especially since I only got to drive it at night. Whether by luck or good planning, getting the entire route with no traffic slowdowns was amazing to see. That mist, however, was quite surprising, for something like that to cause a high-end Sony to lose focus. Looking forward to the next!

My best 405 story is about a friend who lived in Venice Beach. One day he did a DerbyTown run for about 20 miles up the 405 on his Kawasaki ZX-7 Ninja. He outran the CHP cruisers but couldn't outrun the helicopter. They clocked him at 135 mph, and evidently they ran his plate and got his home address. When he pulled onto his street there were several cops waiting and they tackled him on his front lawn and cuffed him. He spent his weekends for about the next 6 months doing community service, wearing an orange vest picking up litter on the side of the freeway.

Interesting choice of songs for a road that is definitely not loved and was even called the devil's gift to man over 20 years ago (but I can't remember the source for that). And, I guess you can add "June Gloom" to your list of Southern California experiences. Looking forward to your ride up I-5.

Another fact about the 405 . Between the Wilmington and Alameda off ramps Southbound is the backside of LA County Fire Station 127 , who's exterior portions was the famous " Emergency ! " Station 51 .
I grew up at the 405/605 interchange (Rossmoor) from ‘62-81 and it is surprising how little has changed. I don’t think they’ve even widened it since then except at the ends. When I went to Whittier College in the late 70’s, I took a student from Tehran, Iran through some of the freeways and he was completely blown away.
Notorious maybe, but when I'm driving from San Diego to Norcal I usually take the 405 instead of the 5. There's one spot of the 5 that always gets really jammed up around Commerce, especially in the old narrow section.
My past self again! Da 3 lane section is terrible. We have to take 5 to get to my grandparents house. Sometimes my family has to go on 91 to 605 to avoid.

June 13, 2013... We very well could be in the southbound lanes on the 405. I'll have to watch this again, but at a much slower speed. We were on the 405 south of Century Blvd, headed to Carlsbad (Legoland). I remember that "marine layer" and how my wife wasn't interested in operating "Wife cam" that day. "It's too gloomy today".😀
To think this was designed a "bypass." For some reason, I think of Nicolette Larson's "Lotta Love" when thinking of WB I-40 descending up the Mogollon Rim heading into Flagstaff.
+countenanceblog When this was built, it was. Long Beach, Norwalk, Marina Del Rey, Seal Beach, etc. were not this populated than Los Angeles, Hollywood and East L.A. when this was proposed and constructed in the 1950s and 60s. I-5 at the time was the 405's traffic.
The 405 may be named the San Diego freeway in California but it doesn't go to San Diego--it doesn't even go into San Diego County! However, at its southern terminus (where you started) it runs into the 5 freeway which does go to San Diego County and San Diego.
That's true, but I'd guess it was named that way because it was designed as a "bypass" to the 5 because the 5 goes right through downtown LA. The 5 is the "Golden State Freeway."

I wonder you didn't get stuck in heavy traffic... Most Likely going from south to north in the AM. Going through the Sepulveda Pass was a frequent route of ours.. We passed the Getty Museum the Skirball Museum the the spectacular Valley on a clear night, you can see forever...

The Carson bid ended up losing. The Rams are the team moving to LA and they're building their new stadium in Inglewood basically to the right of where you were at 9:48 (At the old Hollywood Park racetrack). That being said, this has been a great video to watch as always.

However, since I-405 CA is measured 72.4 mi, I-10 between Baton Rouge and New Orleans is around 81 mi.

Not the roads in this video (and most videos in general), there are no tolls on them.
@@Freewayjim in my country Indonesia there's no freeway like this. Only tolls, and we have to pay for it. Not cheap, and very expensive.. 🙄

@@carizmotorsindonesia4271 Each state is different, they can range from 55 to 80 Miles Per Hour (I think your numbers are Kilometers Per Hour, which would be 130 Max)

The Carson bid ended up losing. The Rams are the team moving to LA and they're building their new stadium in Inglewood basically to the right of where you were at 9:48 (At the old Hollywood Park racetrack).

Same. I'm from STL so the move hit close to home for me. But I will begrudgingly admit that the stadium designs do look nice. I wonder if we'll be able to see it from the 405.
