Richard Hammond shows the Brainiacs how fun Electricity can be.
Also, yes, if you are in the air when the electricity goes through, you don't get a shock. You don't get shocked if the circuit (box to fence to person to ground to box) doesn't complete.
On top of that, the end where he ALMOST shakes Hammond's hand, he doesn't. Also, the slight gap in time between feet hitting ground and the shock can be attributed to the 1-2 second delay caused by the fence not being constantly on.

Lol! I've played with an electric fence before! I'd completely forgotten it until watching this, but it was really fun in a weird way! I don't think it was as powerful as this one though. XD

I think it's about the relation between the voltage and the amperage.
The voltage "shocks" you, but what really modify your body electric signals is the amperage.
That's the way how works a Teaser Gun. Lots of volts, maybe 200.000 volts, but a VERY SMALL amperage. (0,1uA)

The taser my father carries as a cop is about 60,000 volts, but the ampage (which carries the lethal force) has fewer amps than required to light up one Christmas tree lightbulb.
I think the volts and amps can be described using a projectile metaphor. The voltage is the velocity, while the amp is the mass of the projectile. In a taser, even with a high voltage, or speed of a projectile, a spitball won't hurt you, but switch a low amp spitball to a high amp bullet... well you get it.

depends how thick and what kind of rubber.
some rubber is manufactured with moisture in it, increasing is conductivity.
also, some farmers put a charged wire directly next to a (regular) ground wire, and if you touch them, you get shocked.
one time i was taking celephane off of crates in the bed of a semi and the static built up so much that the shock went through my shoe, fortunatly i was drunk because it was the biggest shock i've ever heard from my body.
i'd say on average you're safe

if he jumps at the RIGHT TIME. the box that sends out an electric signal isnt sending continuously, its a pulse. by being in the air when that pulse is sent, its an incomplete circuit, and he doesnt experience a shock.
This was great. Not everyone knows fence like we do, but it looks like the Brainiacs are learing.

One time in my science class we got a Van de Graff generator and everyone stood in a line, insulated ans the kid at the end was touching the generator when it was turned on so nobody got shocked but then after everyone was charged up the kid on the end poked the teacher on the arm, it was SOOO funny! he screamed so loud it scared the class next door.

Michael O'Connor my friend, because that was part of the experiment. hardly an idiot but someone who, despite knowing the outcome, still went ahead and took part. brave? well possibly but then he always knew he was never going to get seriously hurt as that jolt was never going to kill anyone or anything. high voltage but very low amps.

wow that works great, i bet this will deter my kids from leavin the back yard
it's an intermittent pulse of electricity, so if you jump when the system "turns on" then you are correct.
if you just hang on to it and jump up and down randomly, you're getting shocked... and since there is no light on the fence (the system is usually kept inside due to moisture) i wouldn't suggest you do any of your own testing. :)

This is interesting but try to Touch an Electric fence for scotland Cows with only Metal wire... the before test for this is, Drinking a cup of tea with Carolina reaper salt Mixed in :)
@AnnieNM06 -They aren't wearing shoes because the rubber soles would act as insulators and mess up the results. So, the current has a direct path to the ground
