TCL's roku tv is $600 for a 55" with HDR and Full-array LED backlighting with 72 local dimming zones kicks ass. I got and returned both a samsung and a sony that were $800 and $1000 respectively. The picture on the TCL kicks both their asses. Usually when the screen on a tv goes black between sceens, you can see a washed out black, on this tv the whole room goes pitch black. It really gets pretty close to an OLED!
I agree about the framemeister. Classic gamer need proper 240p support. It would also be nice if it could switch between resolutions very quickly for those old games that use multiple resolutions.

jesus linus how long did you think through this !!!! this is so absolutely awesome! and as an aerospace engineer seeing that badass solidworks speed play was crazy! i mean modeling all your plans in legit CAD software is sweet. TIME FOR LMG TO PUSH INTO THE TV MARKET GO!
I game on both console and Pc I have spent a long time looking for a TV like This and honestly it doesn't exist I would buy a basic version just for the refresh rate. So tired of all the snake oil all companies piss out, motion mania 5000 ! super mover 800 ! optical awesome over 9000.... but when you dig deep enough the crap their making doesn't even exceed 60hz. Linus make this happen but please don't forget those of us that are on a budget. I would settle for 4k with HDMI and display port and anything 120hz or more. It doesn't even need to be a "smart"TV just put a USB port somewhere although if you have have a Pc or console attached it's like having having a smart TV anyway, in fact in my opinion it's better.
Media Addict why don't you just buy a monitor? I don't understand why it has to be a tv... I mean I don't think that there currently are any 4k >120hz monitors anyway, but there certainly are 2560*1440 144hz solutions. only thing is that they arent 40" screens
Till You are absolutely correct and I did look into monitors however most monitors don't have that "living room size" that's comfortable for viewing at a distance. Also most monitors that size are crazy expensive they are superior no doubt but they come at a hefty premium for a screen that's only about 30 inches at best.
Don't forget SCART, Every TV in Europe/UK has a SCART socket on it. gotta agree about minimum of 4 HDMI and why the fudge isn't there DP ports on there. I'd love a TV like that. Can I get it in 24 inch? I live in a shoe box.
It's an endangered if not extinct species now even over here. SCART takes up way too much space and with advances in HDMI is now irrelevant. You can still get SCART to HDMI converters. www.techturtle.co.uk/convert-scart-to-hdmi/
scart to hdmi converters create delay. some even as bad as some 4K Samsung TV's is at showing 1080p upscaled.(900ms+) SCART's only downside is being large. but if you want the best support for retro game consoles SCART is the best option for all that delicious RGB gaming. but then you don't need a euro-SCART connector in the back. you could add 4 BNC\RCA+2 RCA to get the same stuff... it just takes more space. (or you could add the tiny japanese SCART connector that the Framemeister uses, then you could even add more of em)
I'm going by the perspective that it is a gaming TV. Most people here are thinking PCs, PS4s and XBones.... what if your true gaming fanatic puts their retro stuff side by side with that? fancy hooking up your old SNES? you'll need an RF demodulator for that (but it's a TV, it should have that anyway, even if it is obsolete technology because digital), what about something with a bit more of an open output like a PS, or an Amiga? the absolute best quality inputs from those devices are from the RGB outputs, which on both the example systems is only accessible via SCART. in theory you could use the VGA input... but only if it was compatible with the 15khz signals(25fps PAL, 30fps NTSC). by default a VGA port is only 30khz+ compatible (50fps+). Hence why in the UK, a SCART port is still included on most TVs as standard.
One last thing Linus to make this tv perfect....a cable from the tv that includes power cable and every that goes to a box where you can connect everything away from the tv without fiddling. and it consolidates all the cables!!
Rares Macovei There are VGA to scart adapter, but you need additional software to make it works (Soft15khz on Windows XP, or Xrandr custom modeline on Linux).
Literally all I want is an HD monitor with as low an input lag as possible and a Scart RGB input or 2, that supports 240p and 480i/p with clean integer scaling.
Nearly 2018, and most displays still trail far behind CRTs in response time and color quality. :/ I'm glad I still have my widescreen HD CRT TV for my my old consoles.
GalladeGuy what's the point if it's just for old consoles? Just get a CRT TV lol. Also, you can't tell the difference between the fastest monitor and a CRT, if you really need that fast response to play old retro games, you have something wrong with you
I suspect he just didn't think of them, because believe me, cable management is very important- consider that this $4-$5000 TV is going to be the centerpiece of your living space. Everyone is going to see it. Do you really want it to look like a grounded spaghetti monster is consuming the base of your TV? As for height adjustment, swivel, physical buttons... all quality of life improvements which are at best useful and at worst shouldn't (if properly designed) get in the way.
Abdallah Saleh I know. Just suggesting. There are people who use low cabinets. Maybe height adjustment might not be too bad. Physical buttons mostly if remotes are not around.
Ttheo kary It's really oversaturated. He looks like he got sunburnt, put on lipstick and that shitty movie makeup that just makes the actors look yellow, and cried for half an hour.
I think the front HDMI port would be great for hooking up a PC or laptop with having to go behind the tv and do it there. I also think having the speakers mounted on the TV would be cool and would give people a reason to buy because you’re also getting a speaker system. Another added bonus would be if the speakers included Dolby Atmos. Great Video and keep up the good work
Flammen That sounds good, it also ties in with what Dr4gon4ser said about it taking a while, then they would be able to make them at a comfortable place and not get dull.
Dublowduck yeah true I'd like to see more I was just saying (or rather conjecturing) that maybe every month is still too often when I think about how long it would take to do this from scratch but I'd love to hear from someone over at LTT how long this project *actually* took :P
everything but the speakers. ps: adaptive shutter technology can be used for private screen each for dual screen vs games like halo - no more screen peeking!!
I had a Phillips plasma tv a decade ago that has bias lighting that keyed itself to whatever then majority color on the screen was at any given time. It was honestly wonderful and I really miss it.
Mark Nakib I know, but I work for Sony as a tv seller, but I already have trouble watching the 2k nits panels from samsungs Qled. Granted I am a little over sensitive to light, but damn I would not like a tv like that.
All I want is a 40" freesync 4k monitor with the price of a 40" TV. Monitor prices suck ass I mean I know a lot of people who game on TV's simply because the TV's are twice the size for the same price and that's worth more to them than anything else.
Tick Tock Tech Talk I have both a 4k 60hz tv and a 1440p 160hz monitor. The 4k TV runs games like the witcher 3 amazingly on my PC, while the monitor gives a nice, smooth experience. In all honesty, 60hz 4k is just too good. Everything looks amazing in game mode, which minimizes ms into the 20s, which isn't that bad. If you want an amazing resolution and save money, definitely go for a 4k tv.
@@rickyspanish7851 to make the blueprints it would require multiple electronic engineers. You can't just patent an idea without exact designs, especially when some of the technologies needed are privately owned and wouldn't be available to them. Basically, a tv or monitor manufacturer would have to take this on that have already developed most of the required tech
I think (even though they probably did) they'd need a professional designer with proper electrical and perhaps mechanical engineering expertise to get approved for a patent. But i haven't tried patenting anything yet, so how am I to know whether they're qualified or not.
I game on a Seiki SE39UY04. It's a 39.5" TV that does 4K @ 30Hz and 1080P @ 120Hz with 6ms gtg response time and low input lag. I got it for $180 on Craigslist. Sony also makes a TV that does 4K @ 60Hz and 1080P @ 120Hz with similarly good response times and 4:4:4 Chroma so it actually looks good as a monitor. It can easily be had for under $1000. Both of these TVs have HDMI and DisplayPort. There are good gaming TVs out there, just (1) not many people want them (2) the manufacturers don't really market them as such because family living rooms are a WAY bigger market.
I took a look at that screen, I see no DisplayPort listed as a connector and 6ms is not a good response time. This video was about how come on a monitor 1ms is the minimum and you have G-Sync and FreeSync bad color presets and 'Modes' that make a poor experience just slightly better.
Andrew Horn, my bad, it's HDMI 2.0 which has plenty of bandwidth. As for the response time, I'm the type of person who can't stand below 60 fps and most of the time I can't deal with below 90 and I notice no difference in 6ms versus 1ms response time. Any IPS monitor will have a similar response time and if you are like a pro gamer then you should be getting a 24"ish gaming monitor anyway.
So yea 10ms (0.01s) response time is still acceptable probably up to 100hz. The issue with tvs is the input lag which is completely different to response time.
The problem is the amount of features. A lot of them are useful but to get the price down they would take out a lot of the useful ones, so you could only by a 120-144 Hz with Vsync or Gsync but not both unless you upgrade to the next model that costs 20% more. Not to mention Nvidia would charge a ton to install Vsync.
pimanrules so I guess that includes externally supported gsync /free sync, externally supported low latency input, externally disabled HDCP and externally supported up scaling for low resolution retro games - oh wait, as it turns out, people who spend that sort of money on a TV can actually expect their TV to be useful, and reduce clutter from peripherals if manufacturers followed Linus' suggestions
Regarding inputs (for any TV really): The convenient place wouldn't be on the back of the TV, nor the sides. It would be a break-out box that gives you the ability to put this ports-interface-panel anywhere you'd (reasonably) like. It would connect via wire to the panel. The obvious benefit is that you don't need to get up and move the TV around each time you want to unplug or hook a device. Think of it like front-facing USBs, placed somewhere you can actually reach without hassle.
Idea: modulate the panel and it's power supply. If the TV goes bad or I wanna upgrade WHY do I need to repurchase the amp, I/O and licensing for freesync/whatever! Also then I can upgrage JUST the I/O if I want or JUST the panel, and would be more likely to if it's a couple hundred cheaper. I've been bitching about this for a while and came to the conclusion that I'll buy a monster pc monitor and run a long displayport/hdmi to it. My keyboard could have a small screen that my pc uses as a second monitor that can help with gaming or be used for other functions and since it's not used to display the game can recieve it's input over the air. What ya think?
Calling out to manufacturers, bringing in ideas and even making a point with the price and quality. I am impressed, this is a good one, Linus. Personally, I dont see any manufacturer delivering your "multi-purpose-output"-idea though. It sounds like a technical demand, that is not yet very realistic on a long-time scale and who would want to play games in a room where the parents watch ... pron. Seriously. Neither side would want to be close to the other for that. Mostly a "use-case-scenario-missmatch". Pointing out to Vesa was a very special treat though, especially since it really makes one wonder: why not? I am not sure however if 65 inches with such a technical demand is realistic, at least for the time being. It will come so, soon enough I suppose... More videos like this please. This is (well, editing...) some decent content. ;)
I believe the main reason for horizontal is the size of the PCB and leaving space for adequate airflow around the panel itself. As various things connect to the bottom and sides of that PCB you are saving money and potential for failure with shorter cables if its wider rather than taller. Typically there are ALWAYS good reasons for these choices even if its not immediately obvious.
I installed threadripper yesterday and am testing things out. Clicked to play this video and "DAMNIT MY GRAPHICS DRIVER IS ALL FUCKED."........oh...no....that's just how LTT rolls now.
Holee Fuk , I know two people who have amazing speaker/stereo systems out of the many people I know. The rest use mostly the awful TV speakers and one uses a kind of custom speaker system because of lack of money. Even a couple I know who own a big 4K TV don't own speakers.
Tyler Nelson definitely. I have a at least $6k new sound system with my $500 PC monitor. I did buy the sound system components used, but I was to sell just the speakers I could get well over 1k for them.
The sound is completely underestimated! my sugestions: - Dolby 5.1 (5 equal full range speakers capable of 85 db SPL in -20dbFS pink noise (like Genelec 8050B) plus 1 subwoofer capable of 83 db SPL in filtered from 20hz to 80hz -20dbFS pink noise (like Genelec 7370A). - Acoustic Treatment Maybe you are telling about a gaming TV, not a complete audio/video solution.
it could come with 3 sound configs, one with the solution you presented, one with a sound bar below the chin bezel (bc some people hate the look of any speakers even bookshelves for some reason), or a naked one without integrated speakers for home theater enthusiasts/audiophiles who would likely already have a 2.0 or surround setup already.
OMG LINUS PLEASE BUILD A TV FOR US!! I'd love u forever and ever I promise. 😚 no homo. Lol but seriously why isn't there a tv like this. I'd buy it no questions and I'd pay for it idc if it was double s normal 4k tv price. The only thing I wouldn't care about is the speakers I feel like if u want good sound you already own a surround sound set up. So right there is 2 options one tv with the good speakers and one without, Done!
would they create a product that they can no longer one up... i don't think they will. Utopian Linus has good idea no doubt! wish we could all be more like this to help other 1st world problemeers. no jokes the design is sweet! good job!
HD Will they may not be able to one-up it when they make it, but they will in the future (it would go from being 4K to eventually 8K, and then 16K, and so on)
Added feature: In the settings, any processing feature the end user decides to turn on (upscaling, motion interpolation, etc) would show the ~millisecond delay that each process would add to the lag.
I'm not sure if you mentioned Ethernet or not... But, it needs Ethernet for those who have god awful wifi connection, and if anything, I would like it to be Mac OS X compatable, because not everyone has Windows!
Quantum you need a CRT to play duck hunt properly, the NES Zapper doesnt work on newer screens because of latency, Light guns basically scan the screen for white, if they see white, then it sends the input to the NES, it lasts for a single frame, Either the lightgun would check too early for the flash or the lightgun may not even detect it at all
-high res
-low input lag
-refresh rate
-audio
-features
-multiple inputs
-outputs, conmections
Chinese tv makers? You hearing this? This here is gold for yall!
42" under 1K US$, wins the market...
Karras Bastomi lol in germany (where i life) an 42 inch tv only coasts 24 euros. Myne has only 2 ms response time. LOL
Osku Wait, how much does it coast now again? cx
TCL's roku tv is $600 for a 55" with HDR and Full-array LED backlighting with 72 local dimming zones kicks ass. I got and returned both a samsung and a sony that were $800 and $1000 respectively. only reason i won't buy one
Hey you make those cartoons
OSSC-like scalar would be better.
OSSC is Framemeister-like.
It sounds like the greatest TV ever.... But there's is a catch, there's is always a catch, you forgot to add a power cable.
Wireless power maybe...
chi compatible
*Builds best TV ever*
*Can't be turned on*
lol
It's rechargable 😂
I wouldn't hesitate to pay a premium for these features . I wish a tv like that existed .
Great vid

real split screen gaming. I like it

The Philips 40"+ monitors know this, albeit they are not actual TVs.
*But Linus......... Does it have a headphone jack???*
No (Why would you need that on a TV?)
ITS A CRACK COMMENT
MysteryMii215 use it in my dorm to play at night so I don't wake up my roomate
boi bluetooth
I use the headphone jack on my TV to watch TV at night using my M50X's, so headphone jack would be nice.
Linus what about an HDMI Output like the BenQ monitor. Great use for capture cards without sacrificing much latency for competitive play while recording
The HDMI Input has an HDCP certification meaning the output would as well. The output copy whatever is being sent through the input and can't be bypass like a HDMI splitter
CrespoFTW as in HDCP wouldn't be allowed to be on it
You can turn that off on PS4, I record like this through my BenQ monitor.
that will never happen. not as long the paranoid bastards who invented HDCP in the first place have a say in this. and i think they do
Same but I record through the Xbox one and Xbox 360 sometimes PS4

I'm holding this comment to account , I better have this tv by the end of next year
Videnorisk are you gonna make this tv
Because I will buy it
I'm pretty sure that if you give them one to review, they'd be excited enough to forget about any issue :p
you should make a crowd fund for this TV
This is a great idea. I would really like to see how many people would back it at the price point Linus mentioned. I suspect it would not be many.
who knows considering how many people are subscribers say every person gave a dollar that would still get about 4.4 million dollars in funding.
Jack Jennings lol like all the subs would give a penny
Jack Jennings pretty sure 4 million is just about nothing, when you want to engineer something that complex from scratch...also he said it would probably cost like 5k each^^
John Uferbach Hes not saying give them all a TV for a dollar lol, he's saying if people give a dollar he would have enough to start making this product and other LTT tech in the future. For the low low price of only $9999.99.
I think you missed a 9 there. Or two...
Much more than that.
I was thinking the same thing. Could you imagine what they'd charge for a display like this!?
didn't he say like 4000+ at the end?
would buy
I want this! Take my money! I'm throwing my money at the screen, but nothing is happening!
thats because your not using the magical ltt tv
instead of big speakers on the side mount a big soundbar under the tv
Menno Rodenburg I've gotta say, I thought the side mounted speakers were a veerry ugly design choice. Your suggested sound bar makes more sense imo
So...you don't like stereo
I disagree with the soundbar if it is not optional I would rather set up surround sound for a tv like this than worry about a soundbar that will look tacky. Soundbar should stay as an optional thing along with the speakers imo.
they are removeable with clips and can be placed where you want especially if doing a surround setup

That's what TVs should be, yes.
with some extra features, mhm
That's not what most tv buyers want though. When I'm considering a new tv I want the highest resolution and best panel type I can afford. Like most normal people, my budget for a new tv is the NUMBER ONE priority and should not exceed around $1000 max. That's why you see the kinds of tv's you do in stores.

Yeeeeeeeees. TV makers please listen to this and come up with a gaming series! Budget to premium, everyone would love this!!!

Everything but the sound solution was good. The looks are subjective and anyone spending that much better be getting stand alone audio anyways.
and a separate tv for the wife ...;-;
M. K yeah, it adds unnecessary production cost too. A simple sound bar along the bottom would work fine. I'd only ever use the built in speakers for watching TV anyway

*they're making
Media Addict why don't you just buy a monitor? I don't understand why it has to be a tv... I mean I don't think that there currently are any 4k >120hz monitors anyway, but there certainly are 2560*1440 144hz solutions. only thing is that they arent 40" screens
Till You are absolutely correct and I did look into monitors however most monitors don't have that "living room size" that's comfortable for viewing at a distance. Also most monitors that size are crazy expensive they are superior no doubt but they come at a hefty premium for a screen that's only about 30 inches at best.
jazy921 Blame it on auto correct ;-)
Media Addict fair enough lol sorry
Make sure the remote has a headphone jack on it.
You could just use your phone for that if you have the remote app installed. Unless you have an iphone...
lol thats a good one most of us dont want bluetooth headsets
Oh god that would be fucking amazing. But the remote for that would probably over priced
the remote and game controller for the shield tv both have a headphone jack its pretty sweet
The Pope Nah, the Roku has a remote with a built in headphone jack, it's only around $20 new.
Don't forget SCART, Every TV in Europe/UK has a SCART socket on it. gotta agree about minimum of 4 HDMI and why the fudge isn't there DP ports on there. I'd love a TV like that. Can I get it in 24 inch? I live in a shoe box.
Why would you use SCART?
It's an endangered if not extinct species now even over here. SCART takes up way too much space and with advances in HDMI is now irrelevant. You can still get SCART to HDMI converters. www.techturtle.co.uk/convert-scart-to-hdmi/
scart to hdmi converters create delay. some even as bad as some 4K Samsung TV's is at showing 1080p upscaled.(900ms+)
SCART's only downside is being large. but if you want the best support for retro game consoles SCART is the best option for all that delicious RGB gaming.
but then you don't need a euro-SCART connector in the back. you could add 4 BNC\RCA+2 RCA to get the same stuff... it just takes more space.
Hence why in the UK, a SCART port is still included on most TVs as standard.
bobingabout Didn't most old game consoles have composite anyways, and a SCART adapter was sold separately (or a comp to SCART one included)?
One last thing Linus to make this tv perfect....a cable from the tv that includes power cable and every that goes to a box where you can connect everything away from the tv without fiddling. and it consolidates all the cables!!
4k led $1200 , 4k oled hdr $15000 , linus tv 1 billion
Only Linus would have the -money- sponsor to buy it for him.
MegaOzmoz 4k oled are not $15,000... they sell for around 2-6 grand depending on the size and model that's not the LG Wallpaper TV.
MegaOzmoz lol hahah
i paid just under $2,100 for a LG 65C6P OLED 4k HDR set. yes, new.
MegaOzmoz nice
OK Linus I'm sold how much? **pull out checkbook**
More than you can afford, pal
Around $5k
uhMayzedHD Yes! I want this tv NOW. Why on earth isn't there a tv that is like this. Only thing I'd like is 4k at 120hz.
BUY IT NOW FOR 99 EASY PAYMENTS OF $999.99!!!!
Phoenix Ward no kidding the TV would be crazy expensive but free for TH-camrs lol
GIVE IT A SCART INPUT
lol
Rares Macovei There are VGA to scart adapter, but you need additional software to make it works (Soft15khz on Windows XP, or Xrandr custom modeline on Linux).
Milo Anderson I LOVE SCART
Great list of features, I'd love see someday!
"any monitor that i pickup from the floor" costs 1500 dollars
nah any monitor from like £100 price point has a stupidly lower refresh rate then some £400-£3000 TVS
Don't confuse refresh rate with input lag. A $5 17" 900p monitor has sub 20ms input lag, whereas TVs rarely go below 30.
Yeah thats what i meant but i typed the wrong thing in my comment.
Like I got my monitor for $150 and it has 144hz 1ms response time. That is dirt cheap for monitors
NuclearOnion I think he just meant that all the monitors Linus has just "laying around" are still extremely expensive monitors.
This looks really cool. Please make this LG thanks
Literally all I want is an HD monitor with as low an input lag as possible and a Scart RGB input or 2, that supports 240p and 480i/p with clean integer scaling.
Yeah, not like people ever play on older consoles or anything...
Nearly 2018, and most displays still trail far behind CRTs in response time and color quality. :/
I'm glad I still have my widescreen HD CRT TV for my my old consoles.
GalladeGuy what's the point if it's just for old consoles? Just get a CRT TV lol. Also, you can't tell the difference between the fastest monitor and a CRT, if you really need that fast response to play old retro games, you have something wrong with you
CRTs are heavy and very bulky. I don't have the space in my room for one.
But why 720P? Go for at least FullHD.
Speakers are a shit Idea, everything else I would buy immediately
Speakers are not that expensive and can be a great fall back for when you don't have external speakers nearby.
Ya forgot cable management covers and also height adjustments for lower cabinets, swivel and physical buttons for vol, channel, and power.
Muhammad Arif Zahran It's a TV not a monitor you don't need those things and he didn't forget them he excluded them because this is a TV.
Any TV that I've had always had physical buttons for power, volume, and channel input.
Patrick Mumford yes. Just putting it out there since he said if they forgot anything. Hahahaha
Man this editor is fucking colourblind
I'm literally laughing my ass off be a I thought it was good and I'm colorblind af.
Catnip watch with calibrated monitor. Its great.
I'm clout blind. Can you explain what's wrong
Ttheo kary It's really oversaturated. He looks like he got sunburnt, put on lipstick and that shitty movie makeup that just makes the actors look yellow, and cried for half an hour.
Watch how linus changes slightly after 8:33
Great, I'll take 2.
Crackel ok then that will be £1billon please.
Great Video and keep up the good work
So a fortune on cameras and can't afford to employ someone who can see colors?
if you want to hang up your TV I think the cables in the back are not really accessible
I think this should be a series.(Like if you agree and maybe Linus will do it!)
Yeah, I totally agree. But dob't do it too often. Try every second month.
Dublowduck sounds good but I'm betting this project took quite a while
Dr4gonch4ser Probably, but then Scrapyard wars(I know that's not directly comparable) dose and they still do it.
I was just thinking about this the other day. You always hit the nail on the head.
everything but the speakers.
ps: adaptive shutter technology can be used for private screen each for dual screen vs games like halo - no more screen peeking!!
johnty fiveofive Sony still owns the right for that technology, the pstv had it and some high end bravias too.
johnty fiveofive Sounds interesting! Could you explain more or link me to an article?
マルス it goes under the name of 'SimulView" now
www.engadget.com/2013/01/10/sony-simulview-4ktv-gran-turismo-5/I think they only showed this for CES and never got released
Did there really stand: "Ask his wife"? xD
bagghira05 Those words didn't make sense, but I still understood.
twice
Engrish
Svensk?
In some languages like Swedish and Danish and, afaik, German, text doesn't say anything. Instead it "stands."
#AskHisWife
Hahah. That was some shade
How?
Linus is going to fire whoever edited that video :)
I had a Phillips plasma tv a decade ago that has bias lighting that keyed itself to whatever then majority color on the screen was at any given time. It was honestly wonderful and I really miss it.
I would also like at least full HDR support (4,000 nits), or even Dolby Vision (10,000 nits)
10,000 nits damn, you can't look at that in your livingroom without burning your eyes out lol
stinkiaapje it's on a per pixel basis, not the whole panel at once.
stinkiaapje watching TV at night with sunglasses 😎
Mark Nakib I know, but I work for Sony as a tv seller, but I already have trouble watching the 2k nits panels from samsungs Qled. Granted I am a little over sensitive to light, but damn I would not like a tv like that.
Need RGB backlit remote controll
I need RGB skin
All I want is a 40" freesync 4k monitor with the price of a 40" TV. Monitor prices suck ass I mean I know a lot of people who game on TV's simply because the TV's are twice the size for the same price and that's worth more to them than anything else.
Tick Tock Tech Talk
I have both a 4k 60hz tv and a 1440p 160hz monitor.
Linus. You guys have the idea. Get the patent. Make it yourself. You guys can do it. Sell it. Get it out.
they are not engineers i doubt they can achieve anything near that
no name cant they like sell the idea though? if they patent it then sell the rights and the blue prints to it...
And I got my Asus VG248QE for like $470 (AUD) :(
Soon LTT will upload a video where they show a module/motherboard for the Seiki TVs that makes them support 4k@120hz 4:4:4 and 520p@480hz.
So yea 10ms (0.01s) response time is still acceptable probably up to 100hz. The issue with tvs is the input lag which is completely different to response time.
Headphone Jack
HEADPHONE JACK NO!
BLUETOOTH YES
(you could get a cheap-o wireless headphone for a couple of bucks)
Mad Lust Envy Hell yes
Devil's advocate here, YES PLEASE YES
Yes, as the more IO the better
ye why not? i love those head sets, bluetooh headphones are reinventing the wheel!
I am 100% agree.
Do more videos like this. Good job linus!!!
Linus's passion makes me turn the volume way up.
To editor,
Please stop fucking up with the color grading, and lumetri
agree
Ace Nallawar yah why tf is he green lol
super agree! I always comment on it. two 8k Red one cameras and they fuck it all up......more money than sense
agree, looks awful. There is really no need to abuse the fancy red footage like this..
Yes. Yes.
You forgot a PAL input.
Pal
bro
Guy
TheDutyPaid you mean a scart?
shart* ?
Can't forget the minimum $5000 profit per TV the manufacturer wants.
i love this editing style
If some TV manufacturer would make this, who would buy it for a crazy high price?
Only a few people, but budget versions that still have 120-144 Hz and vsync/gsync would be popular I think.
linus xd
The problem is the amount of features. A lot of them are useful but to get the price down they would take out a lot of the useful ones, so you could only by a 120-144 Hz with Vsync or Gsync but not both unless you upgrade to the next model that costs 20% more. Not to mention Nvidia would charge a ton to install Vsync.
Most of those features I'd rather have in an external, upgradable AV receiver
Kinda like the Korean panels with only one input and minimal processing, but 4K 65 inch OLED 165hz with Freesync :)
pimanrules so I guess that includes externally supported gsync /free sync, externally supported low latency input, externally disabled HDCP and externally supported up scaling for low resolution retro games - oh wait, as it turns out, people who spend that sort of money on a TV can actually expect their TV to be useful, and reduce clutter from peripherals if manufacturers followed Linus' suggestions
pimanrules not everyone does.
5:36 Who can guess what they're watching?
Spartemex Linus's vasectomy
Spartemex 2 girls one cup
Fuck Off
With his daughters*
Your 5th birthday party where aunt Joline od'd into your cake?
2 girls 1 cup
Regarding inputs (for any TV really): The convenient place wouldn't be on the back of the TV, nor the sides. It would be a break-out box that gives you the ability to put this ports-interface-panel anywhere you'd (reasonably) like. It would connect via wire to the panel. The obvious benefit is that you don't need to get up and move the TV around each time you want to unplug or hook a device. Think of it like front-facing USBs, placed somewhere you can actually reach without hassle.
But LINUS, the human eye can't see more than 8GB RAM
It's a joke calm down 😂 😂 😂
U stipit idot it is 7 vr channels
i thought it was 4k of RAM?
This TV is better then our entire house
This is (well, editing...) some decent content. ;)
A bed on a set #LinusPornTips confirmed
first thing the inputs need to be vertical, so you dont have ass load of cables pointing horizontally out the back of the tv..
This video is WAY OVERSATURATED
After the youtube change today a lot of videos seem oversaturated
Agreed. his skin was yellow in spots and green in others.
picolete Are you sure?
THANK YOU
The new TH-cam logo is shit as well XD
I installed threadripper yesterday and am testing things out. Clicked to play this video and "DAMNIT MY GRAPHICS DRIVER IS ALL FUCKED."........oh...no....that's just how LTT rolls now.
😪😪
Linus had a Tv show? Did he also drop it?
I LOVE THIS PROTOTYPE
3:42, the "Why the F*@k" was so legendary, you can hear it echo off the halls of Linus' slain enemies.
Dude! Do it reach out to LG and get a concept going. Then put it on massdrop for cheep ha
ThatTaytoGuy lol the MassDrop would take it from $25,000 to $23,000
You forgot the Scart input for my Wii :p
LegendaryFrosty yeah fuck this tv is trash I just want to play wii
North America didn't get SCART, only Composite, Component, and S-Video. The EU market could get it, but I'm not surprised they didn't add one.
LegendaryFrosty use component, it has the best quality for wii.
Linus is from Canada; SCART didn't exist in NTSC world.
Component is better for the Wii, but other consoles need Scart/RGB BNC or similar.
Linus looks hella orange again
CoolAwesomness yeah, I think that he is trying to hard to look lit like Trump
This would be absolutely amazing! The only thing I would add is component connectors (I don't think they're included on a framemeister.
The Frameister does have a YPbPr connector in the form of the 'D-Terminal', which can be adapted to component RCA jacks.
You seek the grrrrrraaail!?
Wow! Cheeto hands...
Linus is going to get mistaken for Trump at this rate. Or turn into a pumpkin. Either thay or the editor is colorblind!
It is getting more noticeable
Wow Linus! This video! Nice guys!
No need for the extra speakers. Most people already have banger stereo setup
Holee Fuk , I know two people who have amazing speaker/stereo systems out of the many people I know. The rest use mostly the awful TV speakers and one uses a kind of custom speaker system because of lack of money. Even a couple I know who own a big 4K TV don't own speakers.
just cuz some poor people cant afford it, doesnt mean it should affect the rest.
Yeah. If I'm dropping $5,000 on a TV I'm dropping at least $1,000 on sound as well.
You're doing it wrong..spend 2k on the screen and 4k on the sound system. You'll thank me
Tyler Nelson definitely. I have a at least $6k new sound system with my $500 PC monitor. I did buy the sound system components used, but I was to sell just the speakers I could get well over 1k for them.
USB C/Thunderbolt 3. Future proof the thing. I won't buy another TV or monitor that doesn't have it.
USB C absolutely. Thunderbolt would add too much to the cost tho
The sound is completely underestimated!
my sugestions:
- Dolby 5.1 (5 equal full range speakers capable of 85 db SPL in -20dbFS pink noise (like Genelec 8050B) plus 1 subwoofer capable of 83 db SPL in filtered from 20hz to 80hz -20dbFS pink noise (like Genelec 7370A).
- Acoustic Treatment
Maybe you are telling about a gaming TV, not a complete audio/video solution.
it could come with 3 sound configs, one with the solution you presented, one with a sound bar below the chin bezel (bc some people hate the look of any speakers even bookshelves for some reason), or a naked one without integrated speakers for home theater enthusiasts/audiophiles who would likely already have a 2.0 or surround setup already.
Utopian Linus has good idea no doubt! wish we could all be more like this to help other 1st world problemeers. no jokes the design is sweet! good job!
HD Will they may not be able to one-up it when they make it, but they will in the future (it would go from being 4K to eventually 8K, and then 16K, and so on)
this is a terrible idea, for 1 no one could afford it
Added feature: In the settings, any processing feature the end user decides to turn on (upscaling, motion interpolation, etc) would show the ~millisecond delay that each process would add to the lag.
I'm not sure if you mentioned Ethernet or not... But, it needs Ethernet for those who have god awful wifi connection, and if anything, I would like it to be Mac OS X compatable, because not everyone has Windows!
Dragonrabbit63 you can plug a mac in any tv or monitor as long as you have the right connectors
IMHO it should have neither. We don't need a "smart" layer to interfere with the input lag and get obsolete after a few years.
Linux too!
USB-C thunderbolt to Displayport is ez, even more so if you have the older mini displayport thunderbolt port.
Did Homer build this?
As much as I like the idea, I still wont be able to play NES duck hunt on this tv..
arenddenooij disliked and unsubscribed
arenddenooij what the hell
Yes you will, he included the legacy connectors.
Quantum you need a CRT to play duck hunt properly, the NES Zapper doesnt work on newer screens because of latency,
Light guns basically scan the screen for white, if they see white, then it sends the input to the NES, it lasts for a single frame,
Either the lightgun would check too early for the flash or the lightgun may not even detect it at all
Exactly, need that 50Hz CRT to make that work :(
linus you hit the nail on the head seriously get in contact with some tv manufactures i would seriously buy one
You missed Ethernet
No he didn't.
Djhg2000 he did
Whoever did the color grading and/or lighting on Linus must either be new or high...
or both
