Fun fact, Death’s Head was the inspiration for Lockdown in Transformers Animated. His ship was even called “The Death’s Head.” Although the major difference was that Lockdown didn’t actually mind being called a Bounty Hunter.
It's kind of a classic FPS multiplayer reference. Doom had one doomguy sprite and the weapon was static to the sprite that held a " Rifle" a weapon that never made it in to the game, the players weapon was basically a surprise somtimes it was Hit scan or rockets and plasma.

I have been a watcher of Linkara's on and off for about 14 years... back in the day of Spoony and the AVGN. Got to say, at this point to still be getting almost 100k views in about an hour... nothing but serious respect for what you have built, Lewis.
People give Rodimus a lot of stick for his decisions and how much he differs from Optimus, but you have to give him credit -- buying off Death's Head with advance payment on Cyclonus and Scourge is pretty crafty, because now ol' Deathy is obligated by his code of honor to follow through. More than anything, Death's Head is proud of his reputation and Rodimus knows how to recognize and exploit that fact.

However, due to the Speculator Boom causing comic numbers to explode beyond belief, Marvel basically said "fuck you" to Diamond and decided to handle publishing themselves to cut margins. This is just a fancy way of saying "it costs less to pay someone else to distribute our comics than it does to do it ourselves so we make more money." If you've ever heard of Ron Perelman, who Linkara has mentioned before, this was the guy behind this terrible idea. When the Speculator Boom collapsed however, every single book Marvel was publishing became absolutely worthless and attempts to get back in bed with Diamond failed for that very reason. No-one was buying thier comics so why bother supporting Marvel when DC, Dark Horse and even Image were much stronger since all had started to slowly veer away from the 90's bullshit comics by this time? This really shit decision by Marvel is the main reason DC dethroned them for about a decade by the way. Legit, thier comic sales fell by 70% within *A SINGLE YEAR.* Now imagine having to pay to ship thousands of comics around the country instead of just paying another company and then you start to understand just how horrendous this is. And then there's the interest payments which are around $10 million a month because they were around $2.7 billion in debt. Most of that came from loans they used to buy smaller companies like Panini Comics (that's not a joke, that's the company's actual name) and Skybox Entertainment. If you've ever heard of the Fleer trading cards, they bought that as well in 1992 because this was another speculative market they saw high financial potential in but that collapsed around the same time as the Speculator Boom and just added about $200 million in bank debt. Another roughly $1 billion was owed to the stock-market since Panini's buyout was funded by stock-bonds. To a normal person, just think of stock-bonds as an IOU that says "pay me $100 now and I'll pay it back with some interest" albeit the actual bonds were around $200. All this put together, them filing makes sense now doesn't it? No distributor means high expenses and almost no sales, no sales means little money, high debt means a lotta interest, a lotta interest means you have no money, no money means that you can't pay your debts and if you can't pay your debts than you file for bankruptcy. To get back on topic, to try and free up some money to make it through the year, they folded Marvel UK into Panini and ever since then, all UK and European sales have been handled through Panini. This ultimately failed as Marvel filed for bankruptcy on December 27th, 1996 but ultimately survived by merging with a toy company called Toy Biz in 1998. Confusingly, they had acquired most of that company a few years earlier and, since much of the board from Toy Biz now sat on Marvel's board of directors, they could force the takeover. The ownership by Toy Biz is how they remained until the Disney buyout. Toy Biz by the way is the company that you buy the action figures and non-plush or Funko Pop Marvel toys from. They just don't label it as such.

This is an interesting selection of stories since it shows the UK TF comics' need to combine elements from both the US comic and the 1986 Transformers Movie- in this case with Hot Rod/Rodimus. To understand why the plot of the 1986 TF Movie was worked into the UK comic series, one has to understand that the original cartoon wasn't broadcasted in the UK bar occasional VHS releases, but the Movie was being shown in theatres at the time. So it fell to the comic to promote the Movie, as in the UK it was ostensibly the "main" piece of TF media, rather than the cartoon like the rest of the world. So the UK series makes heavy use of the 2006 setting as well as characters like Rodimus, Ultra Magnus, Galvatron etc in their original stories, that the US series wouldn't use until several years down the line, as their comic didn't have the same need to promote The Movie that the UK comic did. This of course does lead to several continuity hiccups later as the US series marched on, it soon became impossible to reconcile the "future" seen in the Movie and UK original stories with what was going on in the US series, which lead to the 2006 future instead being retconned into being a split/parallel timeline...but that's a whole other can of worms.
Transformers' life in europe is something that needs chronicling because its a weird chimera/Geshtalt entity thag goes beyond sense... my favourite anecdote is the fact that in Italy they localized... THE JAPANESE TRANSFORMERS G1 SERIES INSTEAD which also meant the Movie took a long while to get there too!

If ONLY for seeing his take on the scene where Daniel is crying about not being taken seriously as a man, only for one of the Headmasters to try and cheer him up making faces at him like he was a baby. I mean, that, the part where the Autobots get drunk on Energon and use Blaster as a karaoke machine to sing the end theme are basically the highlights of that thing.
Rodimus hiring Death'sHead to hunt down the Decepticons reminds me of an episode of Transformers Animated. Sentinel Prime was so desperate and inept at fighting the Decepticons, that he eventually hired the bounty hunter Lockdown to hunt down and bring them in, which caused problems with the other autobots, especially Prowl since Lockdown murdered his old master. Good times! :)

Specifically he went mad with power and threatened to kill some children because of a beef with Blaster. He claimed to be only bluffing but even so… Also this was US comics Grimlock who is full “me grimlock King!” Caveman speak like the cartoon, the U.K. comic have him be speaking normally but be belligerent, rash, stubborn and more loyal to the dinobots over the autobots. He also punches Ratchet out for reasons to complicated to explain here that involved Optimus Primes headless corpse and a huge bomb.
The tease for the next episode has me all kinds of excited, because I decided to watch all of the reviews of the "Stan Lee DC Universe" stuff on a whim recently, because I'd never seen them before. Guess I picked a good time to do so. :D
1) Love the logo this episode, but the CGI Linkara looks like he's going to be seduced to the dark side and try to conquer the universe. 2) I remember Death's Head II from the early 90s, during the time when Marvel was trying to... Actually, I don't think anyone ever figured out what they were trying to do, but Death's Head 2 is basically the only comic I remember from the hundreds of new titles Marvel seemed to release at that time.
Cool to see this guy's initial appearance. I became aware of the character for some of the later Marvel UK stuff but hadn't seen much of his earlier issues.
It kind of was the problem with Rodimus Prime around this time, yeah. Optimus did his share of angsting, but would still go out and kick some ass. Rodimus, they put too much weight on the former and not enough on the latter. I love both the art and composition on the Death's Head story. Real energy but also humour in it.
Was watching this last night and nodded off in the middle because it was so late. Decided to go to bed instead of rewatching it. As a result, I can say that this video was most definitely more than met my eye. I'm gonna correct that now.
While he played only a small part in it, one of the big stories i grew up with as a child was the Time Bubble saga of the Fantastic Four (technically started in the Avengers books) by Walter Simonson, and Death's Head was in there too. I had no idea his scope was this much bigger considering licensed Marvel stuff was something i was not checking out back then. -Teo
For the majority of the people who grew up reading TFUK, it was the TFUS content that was seen as vapid filler that we had to suffer through before getting back to the good (UK) stuff.
Your discussion of how mercenaries and bounty hunters aren't the same makes me think of why my OCs are mercenaries. Potentially a great storytelling engine: though combat's usually involved, mercenaries seem like the jack of all trades of that kind of work, meaning the jobs they go on can be incredibly varied. Bounty hunter overlap, of course, but also bodyguard work, acquiring items in numerous different ways (overlapping with thieves there as well), and I imagine they'd do some...generic RPG quest work. You know, go clear out the goblins (or whatever you'd consider equivalent in a more realistic world).
In _Transformers Animated,_ there is a robotic bounty hunter named Lockdown who is based on Death's Head, and has a ship named after him. Doesn't say "yes" at the end of sentences, though...

I had some of these old Transformers comics, they also did Thundercats and Ghostbusters UK comics which I loved as a kid growing up.

In this continuity Rodimus has only been leader for a year as the events of the movie takes place in 2006 in this timeline.

Also this was US comics Grimlock who is full “me grimlock King!” Caveman speak like the cartoon, the U.K. comic have him be speaking normally but be belligerent, rash, stubborn and more loyal to the dinobots over the autobots. The tease for the next episode has me all kinds of excited, because I decided to watch all of the reviews of the "Stan Lee DC Universe" stuff on a whim recently, because I'd never seen them before. Guess I picked a good time to do so. :D
1) Love the logo this episode, but the CGI Linkara looks like he's going to be seduced to the dark side and try to conquer the universe.
2) I remember Death's Head II from the early 90s, during the time when Marvel was trying to... Actually, I don't think anyone ever figured out what they were trying to do, but Death's Head 2 is basically the only comic I remember from the hundreds of new titles Marvel seemed to release at that time.

It kind of was the problem with Rodimus Prime around this time, yeah.
Optimus did his share of angsting, but would still go out and kick some ass. Rodimus, they put too much weight on the former and not enough on the latter.
I love both the art and composition on the Death's Head story. Real energy but also humour in it.

Was watching this last night and nodded off in the middle because it was so late. Decided to go to bed instead of rewatching it. As a result, I can say that this video was most definitely more than met my eye.

While he played only a small part in it, one of the big stories i grew up with as a child was the Time Bubble saga of the Fantastic Four (technically started in the Avengers books) by Walter Simonson, and Death's Head was in there too. I had no idea his scope was this much bigger considering licensed Marvel stuff was something i was not checking out back then.

Your discussion of how mercenaries and bounty hunters aren't the same makes me think of why my OCs are mercenaries. Potentially a great storytelling engine: though combat's usually involved, mercenaries seem like the jack of all trades of that kind of work, meaning the jobs they go on can be incredibly varied. Bounty hunter overlap, of course, but also bodyguard work, acquiring items in numerous different ways (overlapping with thieves there as well), and I imagine they'd do some...generic RPG quest work. You know, go clear out the goblins (or whatever you'd consider equivalent in a more realistic world).

I can't get over how over the top the intro was, though I'm disappointed that the model for Linkara was based on the Soldier and not the Sniper.
In _Transformers Animated,_ there is a robotic bounty hunter named Lockdown who is based on Death's Head, and has a ship named after him. Doesn't say "yes" at the end of sentences, though...
