    I used this on my crossguard lightsaber that was previously weathered. I didn't know the ratio so I did 1/1. It came out super well and looks like an ancient relic. I'm glad I found this video and I recommend using this petina

      Thanks for sharing! Nice to know it works.
      fyi - PATINA, not PETINA.
      A ratio is always shown as 1:1, not 1/1 which is a fraction.

    Does it have to be on a certain alloy of aluminium as well as being bright (without a coating) or can I add onto anodised aluminium

    Will this patina hold up to heat?

    I'm here to share what I've learned from my recent experience with this. Firstly, a little goes a long way for both the cleaner and the patina solution. I made the error in judgement, concerned that I might not have enough for my larger project, and mixing the entirety of parts A and B solutions (16 oz.), which only last 8-12 hours. Unfortunately, most of this ended up being wasted. For what it's worth it has a bleach odor, is deep purple and turns brown.
    Work quickly to cover the entirety of your aluminum and based on the shape of the material, use a brush technique that makes sense. Circular for a lager surface, or linearly for longer trim or brushed textures. As others have noticed, it's unlikely to create a perfectly even patina unless perhaps you were able to quickly submerge, though I'm not convinced. The solution creates an unfinished brass appearance in a 2.5 - 3.5 minutes (use a timer!), so don't work with more than you can in that time. It may be tricky if you have a large piece that you attempt to work with in sections as you may see the overlap. Longer than 3 minutes will start to appear bronze- great if that's what you'd like. You can also apply, rinse and reapply if it's not dark enough.
    I highly recommend working with a test piece if possible.
    The clear coat will be necessary not just for protection (I found that it is possible to rub off with enough effort) , but really is a necessary step to complete the effective brass appearance. Without a clear coat the effect is muted and less realistic.
    Actual unfinished brass will have and continue to develop an uneven appearance, so this was able to match that in my experience. I'm using aluminum trim along side actual brass trim and if you aren't looking too closely, they look the same. This product might be especially ideal for projects where you want to create the appearance of old weathered relics or vintage unfinished brass items, but more challenging if seeking a refined effect. Certainly more effective than a brass colored metallic paint in most applications.

    The inside of my aluminum water bottle is brass in color. Is this used to prevent aluminum oxidation and leaching into the drinking water?

    • @mjremy2605
      @mjremy2605 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No it is not. This is a cosmetic treatment only which is why you need a sealer to seal it in, or it will wear off with use or chemically change if exposed to other acids like vinegar, etc. This is used to color in a patina, and is not meant to cover the aluminum to prevent aluminum salts leaching into food and water. Do not use for that. Use a glass bottle or stainless steel.

    What other colors do you have for ALUMINUM?
    Can you, for example, apply the antique brass color, then put another color on top of that? Again, I'm talking strictly aluminum.

    You might not answer, but as your products are not available over here, i wonder... isn't your product an acetic acide+permanganate potassium solution?
    Thanks.

      Depending on whether it's an interior or exterior project, it will vary on the results. I would recommend a clear coat to preserve the patina finish.

    Can I polish it for a mirror finish? I’m looking to give my aluminum car parts a gold mirror finish. Also how does this hold up to heat?

    • @davidandora
      @davidandora หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No. You can probably polish the aluminum and then apply this, plus a high gloss clear coat. I can't speak to the heat. I would guess that it would hold up,, but I'd be more concerned with whatever clear coat used , which you really need to use. This is only surface level and can rub off if not protected.
