I think your take is slightly off here. I don't think it's meant to be for people looking for a track saw, that can also be used as a circular saw, but rather the exact opposite - people who need a circular saw for day to day work, but want the option of running it on a track from time to time for more repeatable straight cuts. Think customers of the kreg accucut style devices, but a more integrated setup. Still a great video and review!

Great thoughts on this. I think Skil did a pretty good job of "knowing their customers" in this case. They are generally DIYers and homeowners looking for a high quality but low cost solution. This saw is capable of being a general construction saw, but with a good finish blade, can also do much of what a track saw does in general. Skil (and their parent Chervon) are really good at delivering high quality at a price point.

I have the skil power core 12v and love them. While its not a ton of power on the circular saw the drill and impact driver have plenty of power. The biggest win in my book is the cost of not only the tools but the batteries.

Me 3. I got the 12v line thinking they would weigh less. They surprised me with their power (don't have the circular saw) but the drill and impact driver almost always do the job. I had a screw that I couldn't finish driving and had to get me 20v impact driver. I tried the 20v on the first 2 of 3 settings and it didn't drive the screw any deeper. Had to go to the 3rd setting and it did finish setting the screw. Doesn't happen often. Really like the right angle impact driver and the power hammer.

I just picked up the saw (tool only) because it was on sale at Menards for $80 but also had the 15% off bag sale. Since I'm in the SKIL 20v lineup hard to pass up a circular saw that I can later get tracks for as well for $68. I have a couple batteries and charger already and will look at getting the tracks at some point.

darn, this would've been good when i started woodworking last year. I ended up with the Kreg accu-cut xl + cheap circular saw due to no cheap saws being offered back then

I’ve been buying makita and festool for years, have a tsc55. I think it’s good to have less expensive brands and models out there mainly to encourage more people to do cleaner work. I’m more on the finish trim side but you can get this thing up on a roof and cut sheathing have it roll off and not break a 700$ saw.

Lots of people are sleeping on the Skil cordless line. I have Milwaukee, Ridgid, Ryobi, Hercules and Skil cordless tools, most are Milwaukee but it's just about impossible to stay with one battery platform. Anyway the Skil cordless tools I have are all quality tools. I can't say how well they would handle daily construction abuse but I've liked every one I've purchased. Their 90 degree impact driver out performs my Milwaukee by a fair amount. I'd definitely recommend them to any Prosumer out there. While they don't have the product line depth as Ridgid I'd say they fall into the same category as them.

Still hoping to see you review the larger WEN corded track saw CT1272. 12 amps, 7-1/4" blade, solid & well made. Fits on industry standard track (WEN, Powertec, Festool, Makita). $170 at HD.

I'm right handed and find my Festool, and most other quality track saws, quite awkward at making edge cuts. Either have to hold the tool with my arm across my body or use it left handed, which I'm awful with. My answer was to buy the Kregg track saw and tracks. The saw is 'right handed', (the motor is on the opposite side to the Festool and most other track saws), this makes edge cutting on long boards fast and easy to use.

At first I dismissed this due to dust collection but then it dawned on me I would use this outside the shop anyway due to such a small shop so dust collection for this particular tool wouldn't matter. For as often as I'd need it this might be a good option, even when at my real job I don't rip sheet goods often so it would serve me well for occasional use.

This is great for guys who build outdoor decks. Specifically, when they run composite decking long then cut it with a track saw. Why you ask well because with the enclosed track saw (festool type) the plastic from the composite gets caught in the enclosure and stops the blade. Most guys run them with the enclosure open, that's why I feel that the skill track saw will work great as the plastic will not blind on the blade.

Most tracksaws are plunge saws, they are spring loaded so you push down & make the cut, then when you lift it off the blade retracts... this saw does not do that...
As for the track not having a grippy surface, when I made a DIY track years ago, I used a finely Vee-notched spreader to apply silicone to the bottom... it worked great !!

I see WEN now has a cordless 6.5 inch version that looks the same as their corded version. Sells for $182 with 2 batteries and charger. Adding WEN tracks is another $80 or the better option IMO are the Powertec tracks for $120. I wish they had it or I knew about it before I bought the corded version. If I had to choose between the WEN or the skilsaw I would pick the WEN mainly, because of the track.

Could you attach perhaps like a non-slip sanding mat material or something like that to the bottom of the track without interfering with the functionality of the saw, except for the blade depth being different? Products like this kill me, but I'm happy it's available. I have the Makita corded(and I'm super happy about that cord) with the long and short track(build a box for those~!~)and love it. I bought it from Tool Nut as well, it's slightly underpowered, but, that's the only complaint, it also cost a whole lot more. Dust collection is superb if you tape over the little window. This would be great for someone starting out, or for breaking down plywood outside. Great review.....

I couldn't help but notice the similarities to my FLEX tools. They're owned by the same parent company. I wonder if the batteries/ chargers are interchangeable?

This appears to be a nice bundle. However, it appears that the Skil track would not be compatible with any other circular saw, such as my DeWalt. That’s disappointing. All you would need is a baseplate - for which Skil has already done virtually all the engineering. Then they could offer some competition to Bora, Kreg and Milescraft. Oh well.

What happened to skil? they where industry standard in professional circular saws and the reason world over we call that type of tool a ‘skill saw’…now they make hobbyist grade tools. How come? ..such a shame.

Love the videos, they are very informative and thorough. I’ve been a subscriber for quite a while. I’ve been looking for a track saw. I’m in the Ridgid platform but it’s sold out. I’ve been eyeballing the master force corded set from Menards. Was just wondering if you could do a video on it? Keep up the great work 👊

Matt, First as a Christian I always love to see when a man is man enough to wear the shirts that honor God. Keep that up brother.
Secondly, you should explore the Skil PWRCore 12 as well as 20 system
I think you’ll be impressed by them. I’ve got many of them and love them. They’ve all had battery and charger, they’re surprisingly powerful and have best LED lighting on some tools for example 12v LED is awesome. Also, the tools are priced better than other big names.
I feel like many of your viewers would love to see the Skil lineup in action

Definitely not the first brand to have a track compatible circular saw, and not the first affordable brand either. Many brands have done this, and done it better too. The track compatibility was definitely an after thought, and not a very good one at that. No virtual pivot to allow 90/45 on the same side of the track, one slot track is terrible, no anti slip strips, no compatability with other brands.
Evolution have had a corded one with Festool/makita pattern track for years. There's a new gen track and a cordless version of the saw coming this year from them.

Not worried about corded vs cordless and in the track saw market. Is it worth spending the extra $150 and going with the Kreg track saw or going with this Skil for cheaper? Going to get used on some DIY stuff (mostly plywood) around the house and probably only get used a 15-20 days a year max.

The idea is dead on. If all circular saws could go on the company’s track for track saw more people would buy the tracks. Great idea to have 2 saw options for tracksaw. Lots of dust collection or none😂

I hate Skil! I despise them! They make so many genuinely good tools with so many innovative features like power jump, power share, halo lighting with task light mode and so on all while selling at a really good price point that they make me regret many of my past tool purchases! That’s why I hate and despise them!
Damn you Chervon for what you’ve done with Flex, Skil, and Ego!

@731Woodworks I am a Makita fan and trying to decide if the 40v track saw is going to be a good option for a 2nd track saw now that the competition has come out with some good ones. You see I cut stone countertops on a regular basis
with my currant saw but it does take a toll on them after a while. And now I need a wood only saw.
