I live in Northwest Tennessee and back when I was a teenager in the 1970's, I listened to WHBQ-AM out of Memphis. They were often reporting on what Elvis and his "Memphis Mafia" were up to. I was only 18 in August of 1977 when I heard on the radio that Elvis had died. I was shocked. One thing I have always respected about Elvis is he did serve his country when he was drafted into the Army. Thanks for the video.

So sad to hear this. I remember hearing over the car radio in Owensboro when he died. I was 11, and couldn't believe what I was hearing. What could have been.......
Thanks Bob! Have a blessed day!

I had a friend who saw Elvis in concert and she told me it was like he was singing just to her - he must have had a magical stage presence...What was is it like for you when you saw him? I was only 10 years old when he died and growing up in a Baptist family we weren't really allowed to listen to him or watch his movies but it was impossible to not to know who he was at the time - he'd been a huge star at that point for over twenty years which is a feat only a hand full of stars ever accomplished...

I seen Elvis in 1974 I was in 4th grade and My Parents took Me and My 4 Brothers. He looked great in 1974 and then I seen Him in 1976 and I thought He looked good and like You said He was a little overweight. Then I got to see Him in 1977 Months before He died and I was shocked to see what a year had done to Him.I will never forget that concert and how His face looked so swelled. He did sing very good that night but hardly moved on the stage except to toss scarfs to People. But no one will ever come close to Him that's why He's in 5 Hall Of Fames and sold over 1.5 billion records and recorded over 750 songs.Hes more relevant than any singer today even after being gone for 46 yrs.The trash singers of today with their autotune could not come close. There will never be anyone like Him

There must be a law. If you're in a store or food place long enough, they're gonna play an Elton John song. After Elvis, I thought he was a possibility to be the next King of Rock and Roll. But no one can top Elvis. Besides, as he himself said, the only King is Jesus Christ.
It's obvious Elvis had a lot of issues, especially in the later days. Drugs and junk food sure didn't help. But by most accounts he could still rise to the occasion in concert and on record. Most likely you caught one of his better shows. One problem was getting into a rut. The same thing happened with the movies. He'd probably been better off alternating between movies, TV, recordings, and live concerts.
At some point he should have fired Colonel Parker. There must have been some folks who would have gladly helped with the financial arrangements. Eddy Arnold had a great career after firing the Colonel. Besides music, he made a lot of money in real estate. He also never said anything bad about the Colonel.
Suppose Elton and Bernie had seen Elvis on a different night. They might have come away with a different impression. It's possible Elvis was familiar with their work. If he'd lived longer, maybe he might have done some of their songs.
