Eric Clapton has sometimes seemed more comfortable as a sideman. He's been in quite a few of different bands over the years. Some folks even called him God. That's going too far about any human being. One interesting part was when he first heard Jimi Hendrix. A book about The Wrecking Crew talked some about Jim Gordon. (The author had previously done an article about these musicians in American Heritage magazine.) Hal Blaine gave him some of his extra session dates. So Jim had to be an incredible drummer. A biography of Leon Russell mentioned Rita Coolidge having problems with Gordon during the Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour. You had the feeling he was a time bomb. Too bad he didn't get help before killing his mother. How sick! I don't blame Eric for not reaching out to him. He could have offered some help from a distance.
