This game shattered the innocence of my childhood. When you're 5 or 6, that learning curve is a cliff. I eventually got good enough to unlock all of the car types, but the awful road there is what I remember. Swearing at the TV with what little foul language I knew, trying to keep it under my breath so my parents wouldn't hear it. The fact that it was so fun just made it worse. On the plus side, I haven't rage-quit anything since. Nothing has ever been as frustrating.
That yellow car speed cheat. I think it was to balance out player 1 having missiles and bombs. I came up with some codes on the game genie and could actually beat that car even with its cheat in a sprint to the finish.
I LOVED this game as a kid. I remember when I first got this game a friend was spending the night. We just kept playing this game and when I glanced out the window the sun was up. We literally played RC Pro-Am all night long and didn't even realize it.
My cousin had this game when I was four. It was my favorite game when I was a kid, probably still is. At times it was all I could think about. I remember at school my 1st grade teacher would ask us to draw our favorite thing that we do most, So I went ahead and drew a picture of the four trucks racing. :)
When I saw this review, I was stoked because I found this exact game from a garage sale along with 21 other nes games...except for the console itself...
Man , I wish that you were still reviewing video games . At least I still have your old video library to reference each time I pick up a retro game for my collection .
Love your reviews. Even though I am a bit "biased" (being a retro/classic game lover), your reviews are for the most part, right on. I like how you inject little relevant comments like "partly due to the decline of RC cars & hobby shops". Makes for a more interesting review.
I was thinking about games I had as a little kid, and I remembered a game with RC something in the title, so I did some searching and found RC Pro Am( Am stands for amateur). Used to play this game all the time as a kid, smashing fun.
I beat it but I had to use the game genie codes that I made up. The codes in the booklet didn't seem to work so I had to come up with some. The player 1 car will freeze if the codes are too good but I was able to dust that yellow car with the right codes. The speedometer was at 126 but the car was faster than the yellow car so it is either faster than 127 actually or the yellow car is glitching because of my super speed.
Dude. That's way back in time. THANKS, thank you very much. (... and, you are right, I can't be very good like I was 22 years ago. WOW. You made my day. +++ Cheers !
@Raiderdragondude read the description it says "well made and challenging driving games on the NES. Released in early 1988 in North America (with a 1987 copyright)"
I remember a bunch of arcade racing games having that isometric perspective back in the early 90s (stick controlled, no wheel). Haven't played RC Pro Am but I imagine it feels similar...
Man i love this game, this rad racer and rock n roll racing are my all time favorite racing games and Outrun 06 is my all time favorite next gen racing games. I wish they would remake those games but it will never happen.
Reckless Racing on the iphone is pretty close to this game. Better graphics, dirt races with sliding but no power ups. Still brings back alot of memories. Thanx
holly crap this just reminded me of a gameboy game i had, micromachines raceing, had the same sound effects and same exact style (most likely a spin off), makes me wana dig out all my old game boy games to play it now lol
Loved this game when I was younger. I can remember being topped out with the sports car and the AI just walks on by. Seems like it had turbo on or something. It had a high pitched sound as it passed!
i remember this with fond memories o.O which is strange due to the fact that i usually take a "AVGN" view on my gaming past but this one really captured my heart =D
I Came across this video while searching for that snes version, the one that has the telstar instrumental theme in the opening screen. I rented that game way back in 2001,when the snes i've owned since 1992 still worked. I forget the exact name of that game. It was RC something,i know that.
this was a great game, thanks for the review, i have the sega genesis version, i wish there was one on the snes too, but yes, if this was updated, it would be awsome...
5:10 They did remake this game with slightly modified graphics. It was on the Sega Genesis. It was called Championship Pro-Am. Perhaps you should buy it and review it as well?
awesome review as always but i did notice one mistake :) the copy write says 1987 not 1988.....just thought id let u know ^_^ not hating just being informative. Love your show keep it up
Mark....try Re-Volt for the PC. Fantastic R/C racing game in 1999. It's a hard to drive because of the physics but really great when you get used to it.
RC de Go is remarkably similar to this. I'm not sure if you have a review of it here, but it's a game you might want to look into. It's for the Playstation 1.

I played all the time during the summer of 89. I always hated when the orange car got the super power up and was way ahead and would always win.
That yellow car speed cheat. I think it was to balance out player 1 having missiles and bombs. I came up with some codes on the game genie and could actually beat that car even with its cheat in a sprint to the finish.
I used to love this game! Oh boy, the memories... and the frustration.
I LOVED this game as a kid. I remember when I first got this game a friend was spending the night. We just kept playing this game and when I glanced out the window the sun was up. We literally played RC Pro-Am all night long and didn't even realize it.
Im beating more NES games at 36 than I ever did at 12.
Same here, man. I'm a lot more patient with games these days. Of course, the internet is a great resource, too. ;)
John Smith fact!!!! 😂😂 realize comment ever
Same
Omg the nostalgia. I loved this many years ago but then I forgot the name of it. So great to see it again
Another one of my favorite games. Could Play This ALL day.
My cousin had this game when I was four. It was my favorite game when I was a kid, probably still is. At times it was all I could think about. One of my favourties games back when I was a kid. One of the few my dad played with me. :)
Wow, it was great to hear all those sound effects again. Thanks, CGR.
THanks for this, totally forgot about one of my favourite games as a kid - these sounds were PURE nostalgia for me
One ofmy favorite games of all time. One of the first I looked for when Nintendo Classic was announced.
I used to play the heck out of this game. I could drift so beautifully around all those corners. I probably stink at it now. LOL!!
When something/someone is unfairly good, I just compare them to the peach car from R.C. Pro-Am.
This game was so great and absolute Hall of Fame classic!
This is the very first NES game I ever played and perhaps the first videogame I ever played, can't really remember. Thanks for the review!
Man , I wish that you were still reviewing video games . At least I still have your old video library to reference each time I pick up a retro game for my collection .
Thanks for reviewing this, I have fond memories of this game.
LOVED THIS! PLAYED THIS A LOT!
Finally an older game review. Thanks CGR!
This is the game that taught me how to control cars when they were facing you. Win!
One of my favorite video games of ALL TIME!!!!
brings back soo many memories of the cursed level 12 in my childhood!
The words don't exist to describe how much I love this game.
finally found this, such a good game, i wanna cry lol.
I LOVED this game when I was younger. They need to bring this to virtual console...
Man that brings back memories!

The 'Yellow' car can't be beat!
Reason for that is if you use the rockets too much than it speeds off to 127 mph
I beat it but I had to use the game genie codes that I made up. The codes in the booklet didn't seem to work so I had to come up with some. RC pro am II supports 4 players, but it is a rare game.
This is definitely a very good review of the game thank you.
I have it for the Gameboy and it is just as fun to play, awesome game. I still pop it on my gba every now and then.
I had it for the Genesis and it was a classic. Loved it.
2:33 nice win/snipe man :)
@Raiderdragondude read the description it says "well made and challenging driving games on the NES. Released in early 1988 in North America (with a 1987 copyright)"
this game was soo fun as a kid even though i never won i just listened to the sound effects
Retro Racing on iOS = just like this, recommend highly. Brings back the memories.
true classic I use to play this game until my thumbs started to bleed. Awesome video
I actually got this game same day as my nes, great game, nice sound track!!!
OMG i forgot i had this game untill i heard the music! I think ill go play it now!
One of my favorite NES games.
I remember a bunch of arcade racing games having that isometric perspective back in the early 90s (stick controlled, no wheel). Haven't played RC Pro Am but I imagine it feels similar...
Such great times growing up then.
Man i love this game, this rad racer and rock n roll racing are my all time favorite racing games and Outrun 06 is my all time favorite next gen racing games. I wish they would remake those games but it will never happen.
Omg! I forgot how much I love this game!
RC PRO-AM car soundtrack via NES! 👌
Awesome game, I have to say! I had the 2nd one back in the early 1990s which has 24 tracks (8 traditional, 8 cityscape, & 8 off-road).
Reckless Racing on the iphone is pretty close to this game. Better graphics, dirt races with sliding but no power ups. Still brings back alot of memories. Thanx
I loved this game. I used to run into the oil spills just to taunt the computer...and sometimes fail and end up losing the race.
And now it will be on the Xbox One :)
Really?? how?
holly crap this just reminded me of a gameboy game i had, micromachines raceing, had the same sound effects and same exact style (most likely a spin off), makes me wana dig out all my old game boy games to play it now lol

Man that takes me back
my favourite game for NES
my cousin and i would play this for hours
this reminds me of rock n roll racing for the genesis. love that game
*Raises hand*
Oh man... me and my friends played the hell out of this game. Great fun.
one of the GOATS! love the music.
i remember this with fond memories o.O
which is strange due to the fact that i usually take a "AVGN" view on my gaming past

This was the first video game I played back when I was like 3
When it comes to RC car racing games nothing beats RE-VOLT
ive been waiting for this great job
5:10 They did remake this game with slightly modified graphics. It was on the Sega Genesis. It was called Championship Pro-Am. Perhaps you should buy it and review it as well?
Great game, I need to buy it soon.
good ole years//miss this game , even though it was hard as hell
this game was awesome i wish i still had it
I loved this game and midway super sprint. Hard as hell but once you got in the grove they were both fun as any other video game.
Oh the memories. Great game.
I think, aside from the Mario Games, this was one of the best games for nes ever! I played this for years, back then!
This game is certifiably a classic gem.
That game is soooo great.
I love it.
One of the best right here!
Hi from 2024, loved this game.
great choice to review, to many hour logged playing this one
awesome review as always but i did notice one mistake :) the copy write says 1987 not 1988.....just thought id let u know ^_^
not hating just being informative. Love your show keep it up
love this game
the ghost flag guy would always freak me out
can only get to level 5 or something
kinda hard but so addicting and fun!
Woah, this seems the precursor to Rock and Roll racing for the Genesis!
King Gidorah! Cannot unhear!
32 Tracks... more than a lot of racing games today can offer XD
Mark....try Re-Volt for the PC. Fantastic R/C racing game in 1999. It's a hard to drive because of the physics but really great when you get used to it.
If you like the RC Pro Am series, Mark...I HIGHLY suggest checking out RC de Go! for the PlayStation...awesome hidden gem from Taito.
Looks a lot like Rock'n'Roll Racers. I used to play that so much as a kid...
In case no one noticed, but.....Rare made this game! :D
They even kicked ass back then!
I had this game. One of the better NES games.
@kreeddem
You're right! That game does feel a lot like this game being reviewed! :D
I played this game so much I had blisters on my left thumb from pressing the control pad.
now theres blazerush on steam. it has multiplayer.
RC de Go is remarkably similar to this. I'm not sure if you have a review of it here, but it's a game you might want to look into. It's for the Playstation 1.
because these games were gems back in their hay day
Was? You misspelled IS
either those trees are tiny shrubs or they are some radio controlled range rovers on that there..and them engines are gigantic!
Such a classic
This game was amazing.
I love your reviews man...That one was great!
This is the type of review I like to see from CGR.. not that Cabella's crap.
