Some cats you just can't reach.
You can see that she's clearly not scared of him, she even exposes her belly from time to time, but she also makes it clear that he is
crossing some lines and she wants to play less roughly, that's a pretty cute and harmless interaction between the two, a learning process :)

I had a German Shepard and he was so sweet and gentle with my cats. He would nuzzle them and they were never afraid of him. I miss him so much.

Years ago my wife took one of our cats to the vet. Came home with the cat and 120 lb German Shepherd that was abandoned. He was about 6 years old and we had him for about 6 more years. Wonderful animal! They have a precious look when they look at something they don't understand.
That’s how I usually see cats and German Shepard. I adore cats….but I also love German Shepards. Great dogs.

That is a very patient cat! It seems to understand that Rocky's young and stoopid in a harmless puppy way and exercises great restraint with a creature, what, 5 times its weight?

This is a very sweet interaction - they obviously love each other and it’s sweet to see the cat communicating it’s displeasure at too much contact and the dog trying to respect that while also battling a clear desire to intensely snuggle the cat 😆

It is very impressive how patient the cat is, like, mine would've already be at the other side of the house (probably also on a high object)
Mine would be ripping the poor German Shepherd's nose off.
My older cat would have given a good smack down and the other would be up high too. My oldest would also hold a grudge and have a go at the dog whenever he came near afterwards for quite a while, an example of how he can hold a grudge is that my mothers cat and dog would stay with us for anything as long as a week or at most a couple months while mum traveled. Her little dog was quite well tolerated but mums cat was a Birman and they are generally loud but this one was deaf and had the loudest meow I’ve ever heard and he would have regular spells of yelling at the top of his lungs for many minutes at a time. Because of his hearing he would walk around with a shaking head tilt. My cat hated him, and after a couple years of him visiting where I normally would pick him up from mums to bring him to our place, mum brought him over and my cat realised it was her fault he had to deal with him he not only stoped giving mum cuddles and kisses he would attack if she tried to pet him and prior to that mum was the only person he was really affectionate with besides me and my friend who was his kitty sitter if I had to go away. For 3 more years till mums kitty died Zac would continue to hold a grudge and even after mum stopped bringing him to stay up until mums death last year he would not let her pet him. I played a video for a friend of mums cat singing the song of his people when he woke up in the morning one time and my cat went nuts hissing and spitting that’s how deep his hate is lol
Mine would have clawed at the dog, and the dog wouldn't want anything to do with her because of it

The dog is a big cutie.
He does the same as my big boy when playing with the cat or smaller dogs by being gentle. But when it's with large dogs then it's full on smashy time 🤣🤣🤣

@@mg8642 Well, since you brought the generalizations and assumptions here: cat people will never know about the unique strong bond between dogs and their owners either, which is exactly why dogs have been considered man's Best Friend for thousands of years. Dog is more than a pet, he is friend, he is family. Dog people love cats too, while cat people stick only to cats.

My cat, who is identical physically to this one right down to the last stripe on its tail, does the same thing when my daughter comes over with her (20 pound) dog. Back and forth they go, acting like such tough guys, seemingly for hours. In reality, they're best of friends.
With most cats this behaviour ends with a few red pinstripes over the dog's nose😂🤣
This is an exceptionally patient cat.
My cats are the opposite. They try to cuddle and play with the dog and the dog is confused.

To anyone worried about the cat: they're fine. If they didn't like what the dog was doing, they would make that very clear, very fast. That small hiss in the middle is a great example of the cat saying no and drawing a clear boundary (which the dog respects!)

Dogs in general. My parents got a black lab mutt puppy, and she is loveable and playful and has no idea that the size difference between her and the cat is already enough that he can't always play as rough as she wants to. No one's been hurt as far as I know, but the concepts of "personal space" and "not interested" are ones she's still working on.

Always remember to monitor your shepherd while it is playing with smaller animals. They're good natured dogs usually, but they can be overly aggressive with "prey" animals.

Obviously the cat is just annoyed… if really upset would go under the bed to sleep where Rocky cannot get the chance to annoy him lol… not aggressive just wants some attention.

They are best friends, as cats and dogs living together mostly are. Inseparable. She wanted her nap and was slightly annoyed that she was disturbed, but not more than that. :)

My take on it is that the cat didn't enjoy it. I wonder if the cat was not fast enough to get away from the dog and maybe didn't have any high perch to retreat to where the dog could not reach.
My GSD and cat spent 12 years together. They'd invade one another's space daily. It's a sign of unconditional affection

That has got to be one of the most tolerant cats I have seen in my life except for the cat I owned a few years ago. When my west highland terrier was a puppy, he would put his entire mouth on the cats head trying to play and the cat barely reacted.
