    You shouldn't have to explain yourself because of comments from so called professionals. You are giving me so much information and courage to start my own mk2 gt6 that needs so much welding. But it'll keep me busy over the winter months. Thank you 😊

    Well done Elin the car is now protected for its rest period, a good job. Kind regards, Richard

    You have some great life skills. I recently rattle-can'd my Alfa's front bumper outside. The over spray drifted clear across the driveway on to said Alfa. I spent 4hrs the next weekend claybaring the overspray off. Wish that I had the patients that you do to set up a make shift tent in my 2-car garage!

      LOL, I had to deal with overspray in the engine bay of the TR6 from the paint shop. What a nightmare!

    What a milestone, it's moments like this that make all the hard work worth it! Nice work. Keith will be so happy too!

    Awesome job! I guess I’ll be using many things I’ve seen on your channel.
    I’m restoring a 1966 Midget to give to my 12 year old granddaughter when she turns 16. Maybe a Triumph after this?

    I am very proud of you! Outstanding job brother Elin. Spraying the car is the fun-est part of vehicle restoration. At least I think so. Huggs!

    The hardest part is almost behind you. Did you sit inside the car and have a drink? Yes, I did shed a slight tear. I think I should be walking again by the end of May. You’re helping make the time go by more easily, thanks.

      LOL, I have a rule, no drinking in cars. I might hit a bump and spill my drink LOL. But I had a drink at home to celebrate. Can't wait for the day when I will drive it down to NJ and see you inside it! I am aiming at this time next year so get ready :)

    I have to do my first paint job. Hopefully it will be as good as yours and not a pain job :-o
    A good preparation is very important I think.
    Very well done Elin, you do a great one man show ;-)
    The result is more than acceptable.....thumbs up!!

      That's exactly what everyone thinks once you've done it ..... :-)
      You read and study books and the internet and you are only smarter when you have done it yourself.
      After all you think..... "It was not as difficult as before thought"

    Looks pretty good for a first attempt! Just watching you, it sounds like you were about 50-60psi on the air, that style of gun with epoxy primer will work really well about 30-40psi if thinned 10%.
    I find it best to sand the epoxy primer down with 320 grit dry on a machine, then put your high fill primer over that. Don't worry if you sand through the epoxy with the power sander in places, just spot spray some more epoxy over it, sand again then high build.Wet sand the high fill with 600 grit- no need to go any finer, 600 grit won't show at all. 1200 grit with high build primer will take FOREVER to get anywhere!
    Remember, the epoxy is just the base, it doesn't need to be fine sanded, just knocked down flat so the high build can go on. That's when you do the real finish sanding!

      Thanks for the bits of advice. I am still learning so I appreciate any help from experienced guys like you! The pressure was between 25 and 30 PSI as advised on the Spec sheet for the primer though. I was really careful about that.

    Elin, its amazing to see the car now you are now at this point, next you'll be telling us you made your own paint! What happened to that battery box you decided to order? Surely you didn't fix up the old one?

    • @RustyBeauties
      @RustyBeauties  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! LOL, the battery box took a while to arrive, but it is finally here. I will install it when I get back to this car. I have other areas that need welding anyway.

    Hey, I'm glad I was able to find this. I just got my fathers GT6 to my garage last week and started the restoration. He got this car back in 73 and it has been around longer than me. Your videos are going to be a lot of help. So if I have any questions on this project would
    I be able to contact you?

    Hi from greasemonkeygarage looks like the job worked out ok but before you go onto the next stage of paint there are problems you will face these are the same problems I had with the gt6 paint job if you like I am happy to pass on my experience regards Jeff

      @RustyBeauties  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jeff, I watched some of your videos and they are very interesting. I need to find the time and watch them all. I still have a lot of work to do on the body before the paint though. I even have welding still, but since I had to put this project on hold for a while I decided to prime it and protect it from rust. Are the problems you are talking about in your videos. I definitely will appreciate learning from your experience. Thanks!

      Hi Elin the problems I described are not in the video could not set up a camera in my spray shop if you like I will do a short video for you when your ready to paint like you this was my first real paint job and would be easy to film than to write let me no when your painting regards Jeff.

    il lavaggio con il silicio serve perche la vernice reagisce alla presenza di sostanze al silicone.

    With respect, the only way to protect from rust and sabilise the chassis from rust is to dip it in a tank with paint remover, primer et al. that gets the parts inside the hollow sections. Please comment.

    • @RustyBeauties
      @RustyBeauties  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be ideal, but who can afford that in a small shop. We do our best to cover all areas knowing that some dark corners will remain less protected…. There are internal frame coating sprays with long tube with a jet at the end that you can insert through openings and spray inside. I use those for frames, rockers and other enclosed areas.

    Hey Elin, Please dont sand the high build to 1500, thats FAR too fine and will cause the paint to flake off, id stop at 800 to 1000 once you lay the paint on you will be fine and then you can 1500 and 2000 it imo ( though this is just my experience and im not a pro )

    • @RustyBeauties
      @RustyBeauties  6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why did you use silicon wash Elin?

    • @RustyBeauties
      @RustyBeauties  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That was the solvent I had handy to use for degreasing. Some people use rubbing alcohol or lacquer thinner.

    Hi Elin. I enjoy going along with you on the GT6. OK! I was just reading about Roger Miller. He smoked himself to death
    at age 56... 'Have a coffee and a smoke'. I couldn't believe my ears. Why bother with a respirator while painting? Who's gonna care if you lose an eye? Forget the safety glasses. Overalls? Steel toes? Why protect anything if you're likely to die sooner than later from smoking. Like your camera angle apology, sorry for the rant.

    • @RustyBeauties
      @RustyBeauties  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree 100% with you Cory! Even though I am not such a heavy smoker. I have a pack a week maybe and I don't even smoke all year long. Usually, I stop smoking completely in the winter as I don't think it is worth freezing to death just for a stupid cigarette. But now actually I decided to quit and I haven't smoked for a week or so :) I realize it is a really stupid way to ruin my health!
