I am from Brazil but when Armand decided to go for the world record and Thiago's Bronze was already guaranteed I saw myself all of a sudden starting to cheer for a Sweden pole vaulter I've never seen in my life That's what Olympics make to people
Thiago Braz sempre vai nos representar, é jovem e vai voltar com tudo nessa olimpíada na Rússia. Bater seu próprio Record e colocar Brasil no top novamente!

Renaud, Bubka and Duplantis are the GOATs of pole vaulting. No doubt about it. The relationship between Renaud and Duplantis was utter respectful and heartwarming, kind of like dad handing down the bearings to his son. This is what makes olympics so special and memorable.
I always wonder what Bubka could have done if the soviet system didn't pay him for every mm higher he went. I watched some of his replays, and much like Mondo's first attempt at the WR here, Bubka was consistently well over the bar, only to hit it on the way down.
