A month before this London concert my wife and I took our 8 year-old daughter to Portland's Civic Auditorium to see Rickie Lee on Aug. 12, 1979. It was absolutely "Coolsville!"
I Grew hearing her music, she was one of mothers favorites singer/song writers, it's cool too see a concert, I play the records I kept after she passed.
I was there, didn't know that it had been filmed, and shown on the OGWT, didn't own a TV at the time, thanks for posting. Off to see RLJ in Edinburgh at the end of February, still love her work.
There's a million watts difference in the vibes of people like RLJ - They get up and out just to perform their genuine inspirations... that's such a higher level than some Enforced Performance sort of dirge that's burnt beyond where it can't be nothin but a stereotype twisted toward mindless heartless concrete mutations with no soul left. 40 good years later RJL still outpaces may other kinds of formulaic remnants from the people who caress and shine those musical crystals. I be one of the fractured - but I must be telling all - fast or slow - These vibes do a spirit good !
This was actually the first paid concert I ever went to, took along my GF at the time Kim, the set was a lot longer than what is shown here of course, We were young 17yr old's then, where did all the years go......
Amazing. Her crew was Tom Waits and Chuck E. Weiss, prolific songwriters (Waits whatever beyond prolific). They wore everything on their sleeves - musicians and artists pure and simple.
Bleeding Gums Murphy! Or rather, his entrance had the same effect on me as BGM had on Lisa. I've never much liked standard jazzy sax, but this is great.

I've been listening to Rickie Lee Jones since I was 13 now I'm 59 and it never gets old ❤
Who here is old enough to remember listening to Rickie on A.M. radio?
Been a fan since her first album and her SNL appearance
@@MrGgoodwill1 the Sax here reminds me SO much of SNL vibe!

Sometimes I cry
Rickie Lee is the real deal. Others just act the part.
Yes, this is the great music of yeasteryear before the music industry destroyed itself.
Still in love too..42 years later..🤔🥶😎
what about her drug addiction in the sevenetys and eightys
Rickie was great. Loved her sound. Now, when I hear Chuck E's in Love, I hear a bit of Cheryl Crow? Thoughts?
yes u right
Pretty funny, watching her dab the cocaine residue from her nose when she first walks out.
4:30.............roadie comes on to straighten the saxophonist's flares.
Time stops when I hear her.
大好き
Is that the same Buzzy from Paul Butterfield Blues Band??
Yes
Thanks
gotta check the nose before getting on camera :)
Yeah I caught that too.
I still have to check mine sometimes 😊😂
I heard they digitally altered stuff hanging outa Neil Young's nose in the Last Waltz, later releases of the film.
