I love Itazan's zangief and truly wanted him to win. He's so smart and has so many good hard reads. But I knew against Punk he wasn't going to win and Tokido had the best chance of taking out the championship. I'm really happy for Tokido too.
Make no mistake: Itabashi was one 50/50 from winning this set at the end. When he sucked Tokido in, Tokido has to decide to either press a button or block. Itabashi has to decide to continue the combo or go into critical art.
Itabashi chose to use CA, Tokido chose to press a button, and the rest is history.
Tremendous showing from Itazan at EVO and I was rooting for this guy all the way. He put on a show. Props to Tokido who put in all the work and went through a beastly gauntlet of amazing players to earn his first SF EVO Championship.
No, the suction was -6 on block. It's 100% punishable, so it's a 0/100 mixup for Itazan. He was hoping Tokido was not paying attention and pressed the button late for at least 3f.

Capcom should just release characters wearing Gi that has all the champion's names on the back. For akuma players. akuma would have a Gi with Tokido's name on his back

This was very entertaning. I dont understand the game very well but it seems that Akuma has a better kit and more solutions. The Itabashi guy in this match was the better player.
Zangief's options for dealing with fireballs are extremely limited in SF5. His options are basically jump over them, headbutt them away, flex through them, or block
None of these options are particularly good. One of the things Itazan was able to utilize was that Tokido at the time wasn't the world's greatest at checking jump-ins.
It's hard to say Itazan is the better player because Tokido is absolutely one of the best in the world. The fact is this matchup(and most matchups in sf5, tbh) was an uphill battle for Gief.

Street Fighter 5 looks cool! If I wanted a copy of Street Fighter 5, it's going to be the Steam PC version because I am a play-online-for-free type of guy. I'm not a fan of paying to play online for a month or a year by using monthly and year pre-paid cards. Online console gaming isn't like what it used to be.

Zangief being able to use his air command grab after whiffing on his pile driver and throw is broken. A character should not be rewarded for whiffing an attack.
