Welcome my son, welcome to the machine. Where have you been? It's alright we know where you've been. THis will always be my favorite part of the song, it has the best music.
When I was a young boy in the late 1970s the Earth was so beautiful and magical, just waiting to be explored. Then useless control - driven bible - toters tried to tell me it wasn't by trying to convince me the Earth is a very dark place and the only chance I had to get out was some guy that never existed to save me. I never listened to them. I saw how bible - toters were totally Miserable creatures full of Apathy via their needless and useless need of their Ego to ' Control' others.Years later in Ayahuasca ceremonies, Mother Aya showed me all the reasons why that is. "If it's not Shamanic, it's not Spiritually Organic." .. Period. Thank. You Mother Ayahuasca, infinite endless Gratitude !! Infinite Joy !! Nature is my church, and Rock N' Roll and Heavy Metal music (and a touch of psychedelic trance) is my religion ! And thank - you Pink Floyd !! ; -)
Bravo I'll take welcome to the machine over dark side of the moon or the wall! Animals next but all their work equally. Loved all the concerts. So much work put into the shows!
I wonder the ages of many of the ppl who have posted and I agree with THEATREMUTINY this is great music give me something that doesn't smother me, I can feel and think on my own WITH OR WITHOUT A BIG ONE. If you r true to yourself we ALL did something back in the day to enhance the sound. DAMN, listen, learn, and enjoy cuz its all true baby.
PF are legendary artists in each member and as a whole. This particular piece i think is one that as all of their efforts of universal language telling of mankinds disillusionment of success as part of what man has conditioned us to forsee as success. Past and future are linked unbreakable. Realization of this is painless in a higher state or just listen to pINK fLOYD
The Machine- There is no one correct answer, One i can comprehend from this song is the Machine is labor force, skipped school and now he's working, working until the day he dies. Machine as a cycle- It will never stop- Dragging in young and fertile and spiting out old and weak. 'Dreamed of a big star' Means different dreams that could have been achieved, But victimized to middle class work.
For me it's music about how unoriginal we are, most of us dream os same things, think the same way, it like a joke "when you decide to leave the group of normal people and become diferent, you just enter another group of people who don't want to be like other". We are all diferent, but at the end, we are all the same.
My interpretation is that the machine is the advancement of technology. It is at the point (in the song) that it has grown powerful enough that it has taken control of the government and is hounding on and eliminating innocent or "harmful" people. It is relentless for power.
To piss people like you most likely lol Do not feed the trolls, they are in fact 'like' us strangely... and when nobody feeds the trolls, they die away =D
The song describes the band's disillusionment with the music industry as a money-making machine rather than a forum of artistic expression. The plot centers around an aspiring musician getting signed by a seedy executive to the music industry, "The Machine". The voice predicts all the boy's seemingly rebellious ideas The boy's illusions of personal identity are further crushed with lines such as, "What did you dream, it's alright we told you what to dream".
And PF copied it from 70's synth pioneers. Don't get me wrong, I don't like dubstep, but it's not like PF invented LFO effects, they are and were very common.
Don't know what freakin planet YOU'RE from, but it is more Roger Waters than anything, like a lot of their stuff, since Waters wrote most of their stuff.
ne ne ne!...the beginning doesn't remind you of dubstep...this song came first and shits on that whole crappy genre...you meant to say that dubstep copied and overuses the simple LFO effects that PF used all the time back in the day
some artists use many words to say nothing nowadays, good artists use the words wise and give them a powerful meaning, loving pink floyd!
Great track..Way ahead if it's time, like most PF songs. Thanks for sharing.
My light..... Thank you Pink Floyd.
Die Platte Wish You Were Here muss mit Hilfe von Aliens aufgenommen worden sein - sie ist einfach überirdisch.

Take your 21st century crap out of here. This is the 70's!

Actually, you can say that the Machine is the New World Order. This supports the band's dillusionment.
Wow nice plagiarizing skills.
