The first album she did with different producers with sampled beats. The second disc was only with Linda Perry, not beats were sampled and all live instruments. The circus was a metaphor for the fame industry
xtina albums have so many layers to them, they’re truly a era. you have to grasp it all music, music video, tour, lyrics , looks, aesthetic, her life, etc to completely understand it all.

Disc 1 is more "modern" take on. So a lot of samples of old records mixing with hip hop beats. And disc 2 more "organic", with live instruments and doing it old school. This is why Xtina had it separated in 2. The record company was against it at first, Clive Davis tried to convince her to make it a single album but she had her way in the end.
Adding to some stuff you said. About Hurt. Xtina told Linda Perry she wanted to write about loss, inspired by her grandmother or something. Linda went home and having just lost her father came back with this full really personal song so Xtina changed some lyrics so it could be more universal, but the core of it is really about Linda's dad.
Also, you said Beautiful was meant for Pink. It was not, Pink heard it and wanted it but Linda's original plan was to release it herself as a comeback single and didn't want to give the song to anyone. How it became Xtina's is another story.
Last. SS did not just want his flight cost covered. He wanted a private jet and a huge pay and all this demands. He was doing a lot of drugs, acting entitled at the time and burned a lot of bridges with many artists. He did not work with Xtina again and went to work with Paris Hilton on her self titled album, that says a lot.
I can’t believe that you cut the transition by Enter in the Circus to Welcome.... and in the tour, the intro was ICONIC !!!!
Fun fact: christina also drank a lot of whiskey before she recorded I Got Trouble, to help give her voice a rougher, grittier sound along with the cloth-covered mic she used haha

@@TreMcLeod_ that's not really the whole story. Scott Storch had a well-publicised drug problem and was massively in debt at the time. His reputation was already in tatters because he was showing up to studio sessions intoxicated and leaving A-listers like Janet Jackson waiting around for 12 hours. Christina finally broke ties after he reneged on their prior agreement and demanded that she pay for his crew's transportation to L.A. By that point, Paris Hilton was pretty much the only artist willing to work with him

The second half of the album harkens to the Circus theme of the late 30s to the early 50s which throws her music back stylistically even further from the first half.
Bionic is next and it's her best! It really is amazing and many people are sleeping on it!

Yaaaassss! Thank U, thank U!!! Please do the tours too as you did with Shak, include the Srory Tellers peeformance which was like a 1 hour intimate concert where she gives a little stpry about each song. And I can definitely recommend some iconic performances...

Beautiful was not made for Pink, to get the facts straight. Linda wrote Beautiful for herself, but she thought she can't sing it, since in her mind, she was not beautiful. She was keeping the song, cause it was very personal to her. Pink heard the song and wanted it for her album, but Linda said no. Then when she started working with Christina, Christina heard it and really liked it. When she sang it in front of Linda, Linda felt that the song was perfect for Christina and got sold on it.

She looked so stunning during this era and was super happy and confident! Love your review! All of what you commented on; the length, lack of cohesion, and circus elements, are all similar comments I hear from her fan base. But many do really love the album and the era as a whole, considering it her best. I just wish the melodies were a lot more catchier and memorable. Still, she has some gems on here.

Btw the "effects" on I Got Trouble came from the old mic 🎤 (1940s-era I think?) that they used and covered with rags 🙂

You're right, I misspoke. That whole Pink/Xtina/Linda situation was messy, but I'm glad they've all moved on and made up.
Regarding your "food for thought" about Bionic and Back to Basics: please note the context. Back to Basics came out when Autotune was starting to become popular, and lots of "singers" were coming out with fake vocals and fully digitalized music. She wanted to pay homage to the true artists that paved the way, that's why she uses vintage instruments and focuses on her vocals. And Bionic came out in an era where many pop stars were relying entirely on EDM and vocals were irrelevant. You could be a bad singer and be a star. That period between 2007 and 2010 was full of singers who couldn't sing and released massive club bangers. And Christina wanted to do something that combined the modern approach to producing music with the organic method of using vocals (hence the bionic name). In many parts of the album you can her her using her voice as an instrument, as tracks, and exploring different ways to use her voice. So it was still rooted in her passion for vocals. I hope this explains what she was going for, and it wasn't just like "I'm gonna do old stuff now, I'm gonna do modern stuff now"
I believe both discs should've had 9 tracks. I'd have removed On Our Way, FUSS, Here to Stay and Thank You from the first album. I'd have still kept the 2 discs because I believe they represent different approaches to a throwback sound. The first one uses samples and modernizes them, the lyrics and simpler and straight to the point; the second one doesn't use samples, uses all live instrumentation and the lyrics are very metaphorical and more elaborate.
