Thanks mate! Always good to mix up the material, keeps it fresh and interesting, and you learn more as each new sound requires a slightly different approach. One thing I’ve always liked is that I never pigeonholed myself into one genre as an engineer/mixer - I love to work on all kinds of material!
It would be nice to show also a session who dont sounds so nice at the beginning, the most sessions i receive as a mixer are not so nice produced like this here BTW: love your work
I’ve worked on, and still working on plenty of sessions that don’t sound so good. The sad truth is, bad recordings = bad mixes. You can only fix so much, but in the end if the foundation was poor, the rest will suffer.
Great tutorial! Although the Flikchannel is great and I really want this plugin - what struck me the most: You really have good taste! I always learn useful things from your videos, but I learn so much from your taste, thanks for that 👍😄And Happy Christmas, Rhys 🎄
Man, your videos just keep getting better. I loved this one. I really liked what you did with the drums. The snare tone you got was killer. Kinda reminded me of Steve Jordan. Your treatment on the bass was slick. I thought the guitars sounded pretty good - then you elevated them. The whole track just had more overall sheen and clarity. This was very inspiring. Great band. Who is it?
Thanks! Nailed it! chasing that Mayer / Steve Jordan vibe. This is a song I mixed for a friend of mine - Matt Purcell - I'll put a link in the Description to the original mix I did.
@@spinlightstudios Very cool. Kind of Mayer Trio'ish with Jason Mraz hooky vocals. I like how the vocal sits in the mix. Not overly wet. Clear, smooth and up-front without being too in your face. I'd love to see a video on how you did that. Loved the song and the mix. Great job.
Not trying to blow up your comments section here but I'm curious...When you listen back to older mixes that you've done, do you ever get critical of yourself and think "man, I wish I had done ______ differently." ?
Sometimes! But usually by the time I come back to listen, I can finally appreciate the song as a listener! Sometimes it’s the opposite and I’m even surprised and wonder how I got it to sound that good 😂 there is definitely some really early work that I cringe at, but it’s also just part of the learning/journey!
Don't forget to hit that like button and subscribe! Hope you enjoy!
I really like how you use the plug-ins you demo across the board for different contexts. Very tasteful as always Rhys!

This is a sweet tool. Thanks for the demo-review.
No problem!
Your studio looks fantastic by the way!

Thanks Dag Ove! Appreciate that! Have a great Christmas!
@@spinlightstudios Thanks man, looking forward to 2024 already. Your channel has become one of my favorite YT channels. 👍🤩
Which Pre amps are being emulated in this plugin? I I hope there are presets available.

what a nice plugin. Like it. But on the Full mix i Kinda miss that Kick Click... :) Its a taste...
It’s great! It’s all about taste, and we all like different flavors 😂
Would love to see a video on your hardware and how you choose to use it.
For sure, I’m going to do something like that soon!
Sweet!@@spinlightstudios
Sounds dope! What drums samples did you use for this example? Cheers
I can’t remember off the top of my head, but the samples are about 20% of the sound, they really aren’t adding that much to it to be honest!
I’ve used them more as a bit of reinforcement, they are blended in softer then the real drums
Yea i did See it was a slight blend, still curious though.
