My advice to potential newbies after years on Sunset beach… Kam highway is noisy if you live close by, Harley and truck noise is a thing at 3 am Foodland is pricey, real groceries need to be done at Costco in Waipahu. Traffic is a pain, you have to schedule travel around it The monorail is bankrupting Hawaii so prepare for big income and property tax hikes in the coming years All that being said it is wonderful here, the sublime weather, the great local vibe, the surf. That’s why we are still here!

A thought to consider if you notice how much cheaper houses are say in Wailua or Laie compared to the 7 mile miracle (Haleiwa to Turtle Bay). Why is it more expensive there? Part of the answer is the draw of being in the surf culture epicenter but the other big draw of the area is offshore wind. When the trades are blowing, which is about 85% of the time if you live on the 7 mile coast the winds are coming offshore. Inversely if you’re on the Laie or Wailua shorelines you have onshore wind most of the time. If you’re a surfer, an offshore wind is great because it gives you beautiful, smooth conditions. For everyone else an offshore wind is a big plus in terms of lower humidity in the house for sleeping and way less wear and tear on the home and the gardens compared to areas where that on shore breeze brings a lot of salt in. Just something to consider.
FYI...@4:45... According to local NS lore, Elvis talked to Maurice "Sully" Sullivan about purchasing his hillside Pupukea Estate, overlooking Shark's Cove. Growing up in the area, locals, especially da keeds, got a good chuckle out of that "story." Local chef Sam Choy's family had property near by. Dunno if they held onto said property.
Local girl promoting rich people to move to the North shore. Wtf? U ask what I think of when I hear "North Shore".... I think of growing up on the Banzai Pipeline. I think of how much rainforest used to exist behind Haleiwa and on the downslopes behind Sunset Elementary. I remember 2 million dollar houses being few and far between, not the norm. Dad worked for Inter Island Solar. I grew up in the surf shack thats now valued at over 5 mil, 4 houses down from Jamies "pipeline house. Went to Kahuku High with Jamie.
I've spent 2 week in the northshore and it was beautiful and amazing and the food was terrific. now saying that everything is a little drive and if it's during surf season it can be a little bit of a challenge but All in all it's a must do and see situation.
We might move our family out there on The North Shore and we found the most beautiful, perfect place.

Haleiwa and Sunset Beach are not North Shore. Laie to Kaaawa are the country and what keeps the North Shore going. Big time miss on this video.
