The newest frontier of consumer tech is motor augmentation technology - which means giving humans extra body parts as tech wearables which can enhance their daily life...
One of the first such products is a Third Thumb being researched by Cambridge University.
It helps enhance the wearer’s grasping capability and carrying capacity, thus improving their productivity in daily tasks involving carrying or grasping products.
These robotic body parts are now being created to enhance motor skills of humans beyond what is biologically possible...
It makes me wonder how quickly such technologies would permeate to other parts of the body:
- AR Glasses already augment a lot for our visual field and increase productivity with layers of information above our normal vision - to enhance navigation, perform tasks through displayed processes...
- Haptic Feedback Gloves enhance the sensation on our hands to help perform procedures with more precision such as remote surgeries
- Wearable Posture Corrector
- Temperature Regulated clothing based on outside temperature from cold to hot and vice versa
- Smart Exoskeleton that enhances the strength of arms and legs for physically demanding manual labour
- Smart Footwear that provides data on walking patterns and how one can improve one’s gait for better athletic performance
The uses are endless, and it’s an easy area where existing players should launch innovation and protect it through IP assets to create a moat.
