Taos Ski Valley ,New Mexico , USA , a comprehensive review of the slopes

Come with me as we explore the closest and arguably the best skiing close to Texas. Albeit still a 12 hr drive from Austin, Texas. Taos does have some great runs but being in the south you have to pick your time, preferably later in the season (late January through March) to get some good snow. Anytime around Christmas will be unpredictable and you'll be skiing on man made snow which is icy and easy to wipe out. This video shows a little snow day and a day we got real snow.
This is a good video if you are wondering what Taos Ski Valley is like.
A note to Texas drivers, 4x4 is quite nice but having all season tires is important or at least a chain or sock you can put over the tires for traction. I saw a few unprepared vehicles just spin out with no traction.
