I have always loved your videos! You take GA flying to a whole new level. Always love the professionalism and pilotage that you use when you fly. I have flown a cirrus for a couple of years now and have come up with a strategy to keep the TKS system primed and the membrane underneath the leading edge wet. Whenever I had to do a VOR check I always just turned the system on for 30 seconds just to make sure everything was working and to keep the membrane wet underneath the leading edge. I noticed when I started doing this it really improved the effectiveness of the system when you first turn it on. Safe flying!
The only issue is it needs to be wet so that the liquid doesn’t dry on the surface. I make a point to hose the leading edge down after each use so that it rinsed well
Niko I noticed in this video and others what an incredible video editor you are! Rather if it’s a 6 min video or 30 min you edit it beautifully to get all of the important aspects of it without it seeming to be rushed or lagging.
I’ve been watching your videos for a long time now and really wanted to congratulate you on the quality of your content. You inspired me for my IR rating . Keep doing great job man
Niko I don’t know TKS on your aircraft. Have experience with Mooney TKS and similar experience, high pressure, low flow, fluid dumped overboard, ice build up. In my case the Mooney had a filter that could clog. When replaced problem went away. Agree ice is the worst.
Great to see your video Niko. Always great to fly along with you. I'm glad that you are cautious regarding ice. It disrupts the airflow over the wing and also adds weight. Both are bad.
That G1 SR20 on the ramp at Dublin was the plane I trained in and punched my IFR ticket a year ago. Great bird, always enjoy your videos. Have you and a few other youtube pilots to blame for getting back in the left seat after a 30 year absence. Taking delivery of my new 22 in September. LOL. Best to you and yours.
It’s about the speeds over the threshold and being smooth with the controls. Best tip I can give is what instructors always say, look straight ahead, not close up front or to the sides.
@@NikosWings oh. That’s right…..saw you as a youth flying model planes. I am a ham radio licensed operator , wd9gus, as well as an avid rc flyer now that I’m retired from a daily job. Tons of fun and great hobbies , on the ground!!! Btw, I was born and raised in Chicago. Managed the Building of a few tall buildings still standing in downtown during the 1980-1990 era. Good days in my life.
Great flights each way, and Many thanx for the ride-along. Fantastic views and great editing. Sorry for the icing concerns .... glad all turned out well. As always, fly safe, and good business to you. Stay well, and Blessings to you and family.
I love watching your videos, and various trips around this great country. On your next stop here in Las Vegas, I’d love to meet you, provide any transportation needs you have, and enjoy a lunch or dinner together. All the best to you and your family.
I was involved with a Piaggio and not only was the wing creating lift so was the body of the plane and if it iced there was a drastic change in lift characteristics.
Good work. As I’ve said before, you’re one of very few people who use the SR to its full limit. (Cost aside) you could certainly justify a VLJ or turboprop, the way you operate.
Outside of the different graphic decals we have identical machines. Pretty cool. I'm 100% planning to keep my TKS wet out monthly when its not getting used.
@@NikosWings That's great intel, thanks. I ran it when I had a good 40 mins left of flying to do, then deal my usual quick clean up. I did see some on the hangar floors the next time thought.
Another great video Niko. Enjoyed those little time lapses of the city….adds a nice touch. All good with the TKS on the bird? Hopefully the pressure light was temporary…
There's a really cool visual effect at 2:54. As you refuel the left tank on fast forward, you can see the aeroplane slowly drooping to the left as the tank is filling.
Nico- for what it is worth. I have had the ice system pressure warning go off quite a bit in the summer. My local shop told me in the heat the TKS gets less viscous. Apparently the system sees this as an error and warns you even though nothing is wrong. Thanks for the video.
I'm a little late to the party but I agree. Even in winter when the system gets used more regularly, I find it can take more than 5 minutes on high to initially wet out across both wings. I haven't tried max to see if that speeds it up, I just take it as a reminder to get some fluid on the wing well before I think I might need it. Compared to everything else related to flying an SR, a gallon of TKS is cheap 🤣
The Cirrus you fly is beautiful and you do such a great job with making your family a part of these videos. Just a suggestion look into a turbine machine. I am sure you have already done the numbers. I fly back and forth between Chicago to Punta Gorda every other week. I had a non Pressurized Malibu (Matrix) it was a great airplane but I was stuck low or had to wear oxygen. I hated the icing and even though it had the boots and was FIKI machine just a pain with the pistons. It always made me worried. I looked at a Meridian but ended up buying a Twin Commander 690B with -10 engines. Because I wanted a minimum of 300 True airspeed and wanted to be able to make the trips back and forth with people and lot of luggage. At least for me the weather always popped up mid way in the trip over TN after ATL. Same damn thing going North. In a turbine the headaches go down. Just my 2 cents. Regardless wish you safe flights and tail winds.
Well if the mission presents itself again I will either jump to a TBM or a Citation M2 or Premier 1 or similar. So far the mission has not come back for me. It’s still all virtual and most travel is done by my sales team.
Niko. How long will a bottle of oxygen last you if you are by yourself? How hard is it to get that bottle refilled, do you need to take it out of the airplane? How expensive is it to refill the Oxygen bottle.
Great video as always. Just curious what your strategy crossing that line of weather at 17:08 was., to allow you to penetrate that area with lots of red returns. We’re you visual the whole time or we’re you using another strategy?
Nothing short of more superb filming and editing Niko 🤩 Thx for the flight. I hope you’re all well 👍🏻 The sun is good to see as it’s been stormy here in 🇬🇧
Mixture rich, throttle full open, run boost pump until you see fuel flow. Stop boost pump, mixture lean/cutoff and leave throttle full open, crank the starter, as it turns, bring mixture slowly forward until it catches, then quick full rich, boost pump on, throttle back… works every time
Glad to see the icing clear! Great video as you really mixed up the views. I was almost waiting to see you go into the board room or office for your tech meetings! A lot more editing to include all the cellphone shots but it is worth it! Good stuff! PS Such a shame that Meigs was eliminated by an impulsive mayor.

The first time I ever flew a plane was during a discovery flight out of KPWK in N6265T. Got a good kick out of seeing it in the runup area at 13:06 !

I've missed our vicarious trips from Florida to Chicago - great video Niko, as always. Thank you.
I’m creating more FL to Chitown
Great to see you got a glimpse of the stunning Bahai Temple!! 8:27 mark
Another great video! It was cool with the time lapse on the first fuel stop seeing the aircraft settle with the weight of the fuel coming in.
Pretty cool to see that…

It needs scheduled maintenance for sure. I go by the book
another awsome video. Thank you !
Great to see your video Niko. Always great to fly along with you. I'm glad that you are cautious regarding ice. It disrupts the airflow over the wing and also adds weight. Both are bad.
Very bad
KDBN for sure a good spot for saving some $$ on fuel on that route...good video!
Nice video thanks for taking the time to make these videos.
In my Kodiak the other day I ran the system for the first time in a few months. Probably 10 minutes on max until I got flow.
Great video as always. I always learn something!
I’m taking my discovery flight in two weeks. So exciting
Always better to test prior to ice to prevent the ports from freezing up and blocking flow.

PreciseFlight X3 Boom canula

That’s cool. Make sure to rinse it off or rub a very wet towel over the metal leading edge after you land. That stuff gets sticky and clogs things
@@NikosWings That's great intel, thanks. I ran it when I had a good 40 mins left of flying to do, then deal my usual quick clean up. I did see some on the hangar floors the next time thought.
Yup it keeps dripping out of the system especially closer to the inboard side of the wings
@@NikosWings Exactly what I experienced.
Nice video, very good views of Chicago…can you name the important landmarks and airports in the videos?
Ok I’ll try to do that next time

Yeah it was indeed leaking under my seat. We corrected the issue soon after. Works great again

This one is a turbo so it will do 85% power down low at 160TAS to 75% at FL250 at 214TAS
@@NikosWings wow! that's impressive..

Ναι φυσικά, εφόσον υπάρχει VOR. Αλλά και το ILS θα δουλεύει σε ένα αεροδρόμιο που έχει. Συνήθως υπάρχουν ILS εδώ και εκεί
