this was definitely a frustrating session tho all things considered. It seemed like she couldn’t find the melody and was straining through some notes :( at least we can see the human error of the process

i think this is the first recordings of My Hair which Ariana did in 2018 during Sweetener era... Ariana came back and recorded the final version along with the whistle notes at the end of the song in 2020 in which the song belongs to it's designated album Positions.

her voice sounded deep and quiet especcially during the making of nasty. btw i love love love ariana grande, this isn't a hate commont i just thought i sounded a little weak. btw this has alot of typos cuz im writing fast.
no I'm with you, like don't get me wrong she could blow a burp and sound incredible (no hate, I adore her) but this and the 34+35 session sound like she was recording when sick. and the mention of "nodes" as in vocal nodules mentioned in the 34+35 session had me pikachu face emoji! Honestly, if she does have vocal nodules and still sounds this amazing... just wild, truly a vocalist of a generation. Hope she stays healthy!
Where were the Whistles?
Ariana first recorded the first demo of My Hair during the Sweetener era in 2018 but she came back to record the final version in 2020 along with the whistle notes. (the final demo did not leaked)

See this is also why it makes me sad that for Eternal Sunshine, she kept saying it’s an “elevated” version of TUN and sweetener. Tayla and Victoria are huge reasons why both albums were so awesome, and idk, it felt kind of dismissive or Ariana to say that. Did anyone else feel that way?
I think it’s normal for artists to feel like they’re finding their true sound as they progress in their career. I don’t see it as an insult to whoever she worked with in earlier albums

OMG I hate how they made her voice a lot "laid back" on the chorus belts on the final track. Her voice here sounds so raw and powerful. When I heard her singing this live on Vevo, it was such a blast because she was on fire with the belts but I didn't know she sang it the same way in the studio. I think they kinda overproduced it and it made the vocals lose their full sound spectrum.

Yes, she wrote My hair like most of her songs, some albums are written by her and other composers (like Victoria Monet and Tayla) which is not the case with the Positions album to which this song belongs. Positions was written entirely by Ariana so they are more personal and less commercial lyrics.
