Hey! Thanks a lot for the help nightscape photography : I got the G1X MKII. Extremely happy, what a GREAT camera !! So dark skies in Provence, South of France, my home. Best regards from Europe...
Thank you so much, this is exactly what I needed. I recently was given this camera as a gift and live in a dark rural area - with a great desire to take photos of the stars. Your video is perfect, thank you!
Great video thank you!! Just one question - should I keep the auto exposure to lock on 1st shot or change it to auto expose every shot when doing a star time lapse?
Would love to see this same explanation with the G7X Mark III. I admit to being a little confused by the instructions in the Owner's Manual which talk about white balance adjustment and MF.
Just stumbled upon this superb video. I have a canon powershot SX 740 HS. I don’t think it has the ability to do star / ISS / sky shots does it ??? I am total amateur, but really want to capture some stars etc ... If my camera is not good enough . What would someone recommend ?? Thanks
You're right, the SX 740 HS Doesn't have those modes unfortunately. If you're looking to do this kind of photography we would recomment something like the G7X Mark III or a DSLR/Mirrorless Camera. Best of luck!
So, for the trail star mode the maximum exposure time is 30 seconds? The same maximum exposure time that it is possible to get in manual mode? Can you confirm this?
can you use the star timelapse to do unlimited length timelapses for things that are not stars? eg a timelapse of a germinating seed over 8 hours - or would the settings not be lit well for non-night-sky subjects?
@@canonanz ok, gave it a go with my G7X ii, but the camera wouldn't focus on something so close up in star timelapse mode. No matter what settings I tried, the screen was blurry (set on automatically set and unchangeable low aperture, slow shutter speed and high ISO). I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong which is why it didn't focus, or if it's just not possible to focus on something close and bright in this mode. When I played with Manual Focus (MF) the error message that came up was that my sky was too bright.
Justin- move the mode dial to SCN then the STAR icon will appear either at the top or bottom of the screen. Scroll sideways with the large rocker button to choose it.
How does it work if you want to make for like 1 hour constantly shots of 30 seconds and combine that to 1 shot afterwards to get all the detail in one photo?
Select manual, 100 iso, F8 or 3.5, use tripod, manually focus on starfield add two stops over exposure and expose for 10 seconds, then 20 seconds then 30 seconds and one or two minutes. Use mirror lock up and a remote release.
Handheld nightscene, Night Portrait, HDR Backlight Control, only 3 appears on Eos 700D,what should i do Phill ? is there any way i could take a picture like star mode without having the programs ? Thank you.
thanks, i bought a cannon s120 and used it for my school trip to central australia and got some pretty good star pics... go check out the video if you want on my channel
Is Canon powershot sx60 hs capable of astrophotography? I read somewhere that you could download CHDK wich allows you to, for example, extend shooter speed up to 80 seconds wich lets you make photos of night sky. My question is is sx60 alone capable of astrophotography, and is it capable with chdk. sorry for bad English :-)
Is it possible to set a custom time lapse? ie interval 1 minute over 6 hours? There appear only to be 3 scenes with maximum overall time of 2 hrs :( Im trying to film plant growth which is really slow. thx
The Star Trails feature is also great for cloud time-lapse during the day. At night it is also great for doing streaking car lights.
Learnt more watching two of your videos that I have done in years.
I might even be able to take a decent photo.
Thanks for the great videos
Very simple, direct and informative. I have this model and it's good to learn how to get the most out of it. Thanks.
Just the amount of detail I was looking for. Thank you.
That time lapse function is soo hidden! Thank you so much for the video - I tried for hours on my own...Well done!

Would love to see this same explanation with the G7X Mark III. I admit to being a little confused by the instructions in the Owner's Manual which talk about white balance adjustment and MF.

Very informative video. Is it possible to take multiple 30s shots? And how?

Can I ask what camera this tutorial was recorded with?

What models is this
I know these modes aren't on DSLR's but how can I do this with the EOS 1300D?
Select manual, 100 iso, F8 or 3.5, use tripod, manually focus on starfield add two stops over exposure and expose for 10 seconds, then 20 seconds then 30 seconds and one or two minutes. Use mirror lock up and a remote release.

How can I accomplish daytime long exposure photography for shooting beaches and waterfalls with the Canon G7X?
You cant

I hate that my new t7i doesn't even have this feature. I should have bought a compact camera. I don't see any value in the t7i.
a non SX600 HS video...
exactly
LOOOL HE IS NOT DOING ANYTHING!! THE CAMERA IS DOING IT AUTOMATICALLY...LOL
