Yo Benny, I don't think you'll ever read this. But keep this kind of content coming. I'm talking specifically about the correction of the contest entries. Really helps EVERYONE learn. Thx bro
A lot of Benny's edits make the images better because of what I call "readability". In other words, at a glance can you see the image and know what it is without having to figure it out. When an image has correct lighting, correct perspective, multiple lighting sources and plenty of contrast, the image becomes more readable and thus better because we don't have to struggle to tell what the subject matter is.
The way benny explained the Rock photography sequence is fricking dope mann! I mean damnn EVERYONE COULD EASILY LEARN FROM THAT MANN!!! NAILED THAT NGLLLL :))))
He's talking about adding color to the bottom of the eyes because it looks nicer, at 01:54 pause and see even his eyes has color only in the bottom IRL. this guy has ton of experience when it comes to lighting.
I think I know why you edit glowing eyes like that; It's because, when you look at a real subject (like a human), our top eyelids cast a shadow on the tops of our eyes, leaving just the lower half in light. So that makes perfect sense for you to fade it up to the top like that! You must have subconsciously noticed that on real people, and just added that detail automatically.
@@Judoka26 (Sorry, I didn't get an alert for your reply so I'm just seeing it now...) Ah, that does make sense. I guess since we don't ever see real people with glowing eyes, it just seems right to shade the top, because that's what our brains expect to see in a natural eye. But you are correct; glow means inner light, so there really wouldn't be any shadows on the iris.
Fun fact: U.S. "paper" money is not made of paper. It is made of 75% cotton and 25% linen! That being said, I grabbed a few bills and held them up in front of my window (indirect late afternoon light). You can see through them SO much that you see both the image printed on the front AND the image on the back (reversed, of course). So you're correct in calling them out. They look SUPER fake in the artwork because all you see is the image from the "front" side. Furthermore, it looks like they are ALL displaying the front side, and if they were actually "fluttering around" you'd get a mix of front, back, rightside-up, upside-down, etc. (with BOTH sides showing through each other as appropriate to orientation and lighting). Wow -- money is more difficult to comp than you'd think, innit?! 😆 [edit:typo]
That's an amazing video, Sheesh! I love it!!! I just would love even more if I saw the same changes that you said about stars behind planets on the 5:58 one!! It would be even better. I love what you do Benny 🔥🔥
*awesome video just a suggestion , once you are done talking about a edit , Please post both pics side by side ( original one and your edited one) so we can get clear difference between them*
Another top notch vid. You're freaking hilarious and the tips are awesome. Sometimes its hard to know what wrong with a photo and you break it down into digestable pieces. Thanks for all you do and Id love to see more of these vids.
Exams season so I've gotta study but ahhh this video made me so eager to go back on photoshop and do some stuff!!! Also love your top notch explanations benny 😆
I actually really like this miniseries so far! I found ur channel throught the tpt2 vidoes, but your photoshop knowledge and skills are very fascinating! I look forward to more episodes!
Also, don't worry Benny, most Americans pronounce "clothes" (as in "I'm wearing some clothes") the same way we pronounce "close" (as in "close the door"). Sure it's technically a mispronunciation, but _everyone_ does it. We all just say "I'm wearing some close"
Yo! This is gonna be a long comment because I love to over-explain, but here’s my explanation for why eyes look better when shaded that way. Reason 1: the upper lid will cast a shadow onto the sclera and iris from almost any light source (except if the light is coming from below of course) so irises as we see them are almost always in shadow on top and highlighted below. But, reason number 2 adds some complexity to it, because while the upper lid casts a shadow, the shape of the iris also changes the shadow shape. The iris is shaped like an inverted cone that goes in towards our brain with the pupil at the center, and it’s filled with fluid (aqueous humor) encased by a totally clear layer called the cornea, which bulges out and makes our eyeball look like.. well, a ball. So when light is hitting the eye head on, this doesn’t really have much of an effect. But when the light is at any kind of angle, the side of the iris closest to the light will actually be darker than the side furthest from the light source because of how it’s angled, and the side of the cornea closest to the light source will have the big white circle/square shaped highlight. So in that particular picture, the light source (not the glow from the eyes that’s coming up in a second) is coming pretty much head on to the face, which would put the lightest part of the iris on the bottom of the eye. So that’s why it looks better to have just the bottom lit because that’s how we’re used to seeing shadows in an iris. Now about the glow. I honestly think it’s fine to say that someone’s eyes are glowing when they’re drawn/edited this way because that’s sort of what it looks like and it looks sick as hell and it’s honestly a super cool way to show the use of supernatural abilities and other fun stuff. I use glowing eyes in character designs all the time. But the issue with saying they’re glowing is this: the only reason these eyes appear to be glowing is because of the lighting added outside the eye to make it look like the iris is emitting light. But the iris itself is not shaded how it would be if it was actually glowing. It’s shaded as though it’s really really saturated. Which I think is fine because glowing irises would 1: look weird and scary as fuck. Like the supervillains with totally white irises? That’s sort of what it would look like but with none of the shadow shapes were used to seeing when looking at an eye. And 2: eyes that were actually glowing would make it virtually impossible to actually see. Which is kind of just me being the asshole “that would never work in real life!” But also if there was light coming from your iris your pupil would dilate a TON and you’d probably look even crazier than I described before. So shading irises normally but just making them more saturated than normal and adding exterior lighting to make them look glowey is totally fine imo, I just wanted to rant about something I enjoy talking about while also answering a question with way more explanation than was actually needed.
Dude why is your video so high-quality all the time. It makes me wanna try it even though I know I can but its time consuming and takes a lot of dedication.
Amazing video Benny! You really inspire me to get better at photoshop and I wanna start my channel to do stuff like you! I also sent u a drawing for realistified!

But also, glowing would mean light, so the shadow isn't cast onto the iris, right? It would glow from within

Comment on the Venom photo: Scale is another issue. That’s either the largest chimney ever or the tiniest Venom ever. It’s hard to get right
