The goal of this track is to be oppressive and cruel, as well as ominous with a sense of allure. In the presence of something big, invoking a 'it's too far to turn back' type vibe. Its repetition driving those feelings.
'Lake of Onyx' is a play on the lake of Cocytus in the layer of Treachery - a sort of 'black ice'.
