It also demonstrates his mastery in control of the weapon. A person could theoretically just learned to manipulate the staff in the same way a cheerleader does with a baton in a marching band. What separates and divides it into a martial perspective is its intended use. And twirling a staff/weapon as well as the ability to control and direct it has purposes beyond its prettiness to the eyes- The flash is more reserved for the marching band baton-twirlers.. Spinning a weapon a recovery-to-control offensive and defensive contacts with the weapon as well as to sew confusion for offensive purposes. And tho it is pretty to see, the intents and reasons behind the technique are for entirely different outcomes.
I learned this from one of my head instructors. The trick to start is to focus on simply one side of the staff and the work on the wrist and hand movements. Breaking tricks down into its simplest forms is always the answer!

That’s a very good slow motion instruction, Shaolin and Northern Seven Stars Preying Mantis uses the same method. It’s really hard to slow things down for others to learn, but now and then we can get it right, You got it down.
I don't think so... He clearly does way more twirls in the fast version and never shows how to continue the rotation in slow motion... Instead of showing the transition to keep it spinning he extended his arm out to transition to the next step after only one full rotation.
@@manualdreamer5112 get an appropriate length stick and follow his slow walk through. Once you can keep it fluid enough, slowly speed it up. The momentum of the rod keeps it's motion confined to a disk but while the rod is vertical the disk can intersect your body allowing your wrist to unwrap it's accumulated twist without losing grip

That was impressive. My guy friend taught me when we were kids. We put so many dents in the ceiling my dad had to change it. It was sure fun though. My friend got pretty good at it but this guy is excellent, complete pro. It looks fantastic.
