Wow, that mic is not very forgiving. That and the small set up don't leave much room for error. Scares me just listening. Gotta be on your game. Good job guys. Actually like being in the room.
You know what would be nice? At the end, when the credits are rolling, if you would list the names of the musicians who just performed. Sure, sure, the producer and editor are important, but I'm pretty sure that the musicians who are the focal part of this performance are kind of important too.
Gregory Lopes They are (from left) Chris Colletti (Piccolo Trumpet), Eric Reed (French Horn), Chuck Dallenbach (Tuba), Achilles Liambarkolous (Trombone(I don’t know how to spell his last name)), Brandon Ridenour (Trumpet)
For everybody who's bent out of shape at the unfortunate timing of the edit so that you can't see the trombone feature, the Canadian Brass have their own video here on TH-cam that does show it well. Just look for "Canadian Brass Flight of the Bumblebee".
Out of any brass groups in the world, Mnozil and Canadian are the two biggest ones, so, of course, people are gonna start comparing one to the other, and have people who insist the other is better. I personally love both.
joan martinez ya it's a horn thing, I literally never noticed it until during my concert that I just got back from, I was sitting their playing off beats (French horns know what I mean) and I was kinda dancing to the music
This is very impressive aside from them just being beast musicians! I have always hated playing trumpet in small, dead spaces like this. You feel like you are constantly having to hold back, which leads to lack of air support, which usually leads to poor tone quality and less response on your attacks and dropping releases. Overall just not fun at all, on top of there being no resonance in the room to make it sound that much better. This is fantastic sounding!!!! Love me some CB!!!!!
If you search up Canadian Brass Flight of the bumble bee, there should be a video of him doing it in their own channel. His face is priceless when he does it, yet, he makes it seem so easy.
This is a very harsh and unforgiving performing and recording setup, yet, these virtuosi each demonstrate how unadorned mastery can overcome any situation!
This concert made me smile...and so I promptly had to share it on FB! Brass instruments at their most nimble and versatile...the playfulness and joy of playing is evident in all of these guys.
these guys used to be people who'd practiced their craft for 30-40 years, now they're recruiting people straight out of college who are retiring before the age of 30
Cole Drinkwater Yes, I've been a Canadian Brass fan for decades and, although this guys are awesome I still miss Ron Romm and Fred Mills. Chuck is still the best!!!
This happens all the time with these NPR videographers. They are always going to tight shots and missing interesting things in these tiny concerts. What was different this time is that the group leader told them what to look for and still they missed it! I am convinced that the videographers are not music fans, and do not know what they are "filming." Hey, but I love the concerts and appreciate the effort of all concerned!
Diego Panadero Roser almost understood all of that. My Spanish must be improving. Isn't deje past tense and "que espero que dure mucho" that flew over my head. "That" "I Hope" "will" "last" "a lot" is what I make the words out to be individually
Hey you might be a good person to ask- as a soon beginning tuba student and also a trombonist should I start out on a f tuba, BBb tuba, or a bass trombone?
Typically, the musicians' names are listed in the "About" section. For whatever reason, on this video they are not. Perhaps they preferred to simply be referred to as The Canadian Brass rather than five separate musicians.
I've watched this like 50 times and i just noticed the lead has a C trumpet for little fugue LOL >.< at least it looks like C ... and i play trumpet my self ha
+Hector Garcia Oops! I take it back. The published version is written for Eb trumpet, but if you watch his fingers, you can see he's actually playing it on a D trumpet.
Wow, that mic is not very forgiving. That and the small set up don't leave much room for error. Scares me just listening. Gotta be on your game. Good job guys. Actually like being in the room.
And I might I add,...Wow!

Stephen Locke think he’s just saying they should credit the performers as well because they were an integral part of the performance
yes let's cut away from the trombone as the trombone solo is happening what a good idea
IKR!!
starsreachdown don't be rude
@@lizzywilliams262 This is the internet, so he was being pretty tame. And you got to admit that it was kinda dumb on NPR's part right?
*cuts away from trombone when trombone feature comes*
Trombone FTW
Cole Drinkwater wtf
For some reason the world is anti trombone. That is, except for us really cool types.
as another trombonist I agree, THE WORLD IS AGAINST US... SO WE MUST RISE UP AND ATTTAAAACCCCKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Achilles Liarmakopoulos plays trombone and has a lot of really great vids on TH-cam. Look him up and Suscribe!
Why do I think that Chuck despite being the oldest is the craziest and the most fun of them all?
this band keeps getting better BTW.
Compared to the old group this is no bueno lol
@@MrDrewboggess I'd listen to Brandon Ridenour over Ronald Romm 100%
@@benjaminpiela5210 How long have you been deaf?
and he is not canadian?

Dat tuba spin.... Vintage
Flippin' hilarious. The only thing cooler than brass instruments are the people who play them.
Every time I hear these guys I can't help but be impressed by how polished they sound.
I am in love with that joyful brass instruments
greetings from Chile
I like how the french horn kinda dances along to the music
If you played horn you would understand. It's just a thing me and all the horn players i know kind of just do
joan martinez ya it's a horn thing, I literally never noticed it until during my concert that I just got back from, I was sitting their playing off beats (French horns know what I mean) and I was kinda dancing to the music
All this memorized is crazy
To my ears...awesome beyond words...smile, but very serious! I loved it!! Blessings to all!!
Uncroyable.
Charles has such a lovely full tone. In my book one of the best tuba players of all time bar none.

12:29 Great job camera person!
This is just too great. This is like my 6th time listening to it in a row. Just cant get enough!!
This brightened my day quite a bit.
Absolutely fantastic musicianship here

Heckuva dry room to play in. Kudos for letting it be posted.
Chuck makes everyone's day.

Best 13 minutes of my life so far
Great stuff once more, big thanks !

How can anyone only like! We love it!!!
and they memorise their music which is great
I wish this longer!
Chuck still has it!
Great stuff, would love to see Baby Soda Jazz Band on tinydesk!
I must say i do love his tuba and enthusiasm.
Hell yeah the canadian brass band are killing it.
I like that you can hear the different voices when they are played on separate instruments.
I dig the clarinet sound that picc trumpet is getting.
Very Talent Musicians !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love that smashing brassing!!!
It's called a picardy third. Very common in most ages of music. I personally love them!
That satisifying trill😍
That moment when all brass musicians release the spit valves at once.
who knew Seth Rogan could play french horn
well, he's canadian, so.
who knew ted mosby could play trombone
Eugene, you're still the BOSS in my book.
Simply beautiful.
Very enjoyable performance
these guys used to be people who'd practiced their craft for 30-40 years, now they're recruiting people straight out of college who are retiring before the age of 30
WOW that picc trumpet did a great job imitating dixieland clarinet!
Simply beautiful ..... very good
U play a mean tuba!
Chuck is the only one now that was in the original canadian brass (over 40 years of playing) yes he's good
Daniel Peterson that's pure attituba!
Cole Drinkwater Yes, I've been a Canadian Brass fan for decades and, although this guys are awesome I still miss Ron Romm and Fred Mills. Chuck is still the best!!!
@@ezekb3 and don't forget Eugene Watts.....
Ted moseby?
It sounds cool in this site! Great!
Bonus points for the "I ❤️ NPR" lapel pin.

what an interesting origin video

Why in the heck did you not have the camera on the trombone when he did that amazing bit of Bumble Bee NPR? Love these guys, a delight all around.

Awesome!!!!!
Una presentacion magnifica, congratulation
Very good!
I played Tuba Tiger Rag as a solo in solo and ensemble. From memory. As a 7th grader. Epic song!
Hey you might be a good person to ask- as a soon beginning tuba student and also a trombonist should I start out on a f tuba, BBb tuba, or a bass trombone?
Cole Drinkwater
I would suggest a BBb tuba, because once you learn the notes for that it would be easier to learn the other tubas
***** Thank you for your opinion, I appreciate your input on the subject matter
They panned away from the trombonist in flight of the bumblebee! Grrrr
I am a trombone player as well. And I meant the compensating slide on a trumpet with the pinky. I can do bumblebee with a trombone slide.
Gracias, bravo
Bach does that a lot including in his Double Violin Concerto in D minor
Impeccable
Love them.
ridiculously good
I like how the one guy pulls out a 4 valve trumpet for bumblebee. It's just impossible to pull a slide that quick

It's a short bell E flat trumpet. :-)
crazy still.

wow awesome !
A bone player named Achilles...LOVE IT!!!
YES!
Love them
La pieza se llama "Little Fugue in G minor" por Bach.
amazing
Love how one guy switch trumpets to reach and the other just keep playing. Like; harder? Yes, nothing strange...
Love this
Perfect
Very nice!!!!!!:)
I love Lewis Black on the tuba
i want Canadian Brass to perform in my office.
Espectacular cierre de acorde en la fuga G mejor, gracias por buena música larga vida a ustedes!!!
i didn't knew ted mosby could play the trombone
Wow, all they got from the audience after Little Fugue was some light applause and a rather pathetic "woo". Very well done indeed!
Did I Hear a Trumpet Squeak at 2:22?
Must of been a glitch with the recording software.
These people are to good :D.
real good
To the piccolo guy:
What mouthpiece would you recommend for a Kanstul Bb/A/G piccolo trumpet?
- Niklas Sølvberg - Øverby
yeah, it's carbon graphite. not only does it make it look amazing, but it makes the horn much lighter
These men are fucking 21st century geniuses!
The french horn player looks like the older brother of the right trumpeteer.
Heh Heh Canadian Brass goes splat splat.
Wow, how much does a carbon fiber tuba bell cost??
