  • I used acrylic craft paints, a cheap airbrush and some mdf. If your good at masking you could make some really cool engravings using multiple colors.
    Here is a the airbrush I used. www.amazon.com/dp/B07SQYLBR5?...

      It works great Wendy! FYI: If you try it, just make sure to water down, or 'loosen', the pigment enough, so it does not clog your airbrush.

    Love the idea of a test grid, Great thinking, I'm going to try layering my powdercoating on metal to see if i can achieve the same results with colour fades etc.

    I have been considering using an airbrush to apply paint. Do you thin the paint you use? Also I believe you said you use acrylic paints, have you tried other paint as well?

    i spray up to 4 layers of paint across the entire surface, lightest to darkest on top. then i invert the image and burn, if you get the settings right you can get all 4 colors to show at dif levels of greyscale

    I appreciate the detail on how you spray the MDF. The cheap tubes of paint I bought from Hobby Lobby are so thick. How do you thin your paint so it will spray properly?

    • @lasersandsaws
      @lasersandsaws  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I thin mine with a solution of around 35% alcohol and 65% distilled water. Mix that solution with paint until it's the consistency of milk.

    Great work of art! What kind of paint are you using for the airbrush? Water base?

  • @TheCartoons4you

    What kind of air compressor do you need for the sprayer?

    • @lasersandsaws
      @lasersandsaws  ปีที่แล้ว

      I was using a shop compressor which is overkill. If you look on amazon they have a lot of airbrush specific compressors but I really don't know enough to recommend which to get.

  • @jimmylee6247
    @jimmylee6247 ปีที่แล้ว

    That's an amazing process. I have to learn how to do this. I like that you used stencils to paint your layers. Did you create the stencils from the photo, itself? Thanks for sharing this.

    • @lasersandsaws
      @lasersandsaws  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I traced around the image areas in photoshop that I wanted to mask and then saved them and made them into vectors. Then I cut them out using lightburn.

    • @jimmylee6247
      @jimmylee6247 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lasersandsaws COOL. I have been trying to do images, in Lightburn but really struggle. I did manage to a good engraving of my Grandson and his Bride's wedding photo but I still struggle. Thanks for the videos. I think watching and listening to you, I might actually be able to figure it out.

  • @theoilykrafter

    Awesome! What ratio do you use to mix the paint? And what do you mix it with to make it work with the airbrush?

    • @lasersandsaws
      @lasersandsaws  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I thin the paint until it's the consistency of milk. The thinner is a mix of IPA and distilled water. The mix I used is 150ml of water and 100ml IPA.
