I love that it’s in Florida… The contrast of playing hockey in tropical weather, it’s something everyone will definitely remember. But It’s really no different from when the ducks played the Kings in the 2014 stadium series in LA.
As a Bruins fan i cannot believe how many outdoor games they have given us. I was suprised how many we have gotten after the blackhawks one. Thought we were gonna have to wait a lot longer. BUT. I am SUPER excited to see what they do with a Stadium Series jersey considering its their first one.
Neil I’m with you buddy. Nothing against the B’s. But I personally wanted to see my Bolts play someone like the Caps, the Wings, or even the Rat Cats and have as you said a sunshine state classic showdown. But regardless i’m very happy my Bolts and the my rival down the Deep South are finally getting there own outdoor games. And I will be attending my Bolts outdoor game at Ray Jay.
I went to but to the devils flyers one, I’m just waiting for a Avs devils winter classic or stadium, my fav team (Avs) vs my old home team (devils) (new home team is ahl team Hershey bears currently)
The Bolts Stadium Series jerseys will likely feature some type of pirate elements or theming given that game will be played over Gasparilla weekend which is a giant pirate festival and they’re playing in the home of the Bucs which literally has a pirate ship in the stadium. And as far as the Navy goes the Blue Angels are in Pensacola and that’s about the same distance from Tampa as Miami give or take an hour. What you’re probably thinking of the base that’s actually in Tampa which is MacDill and that’s an Air Force base so aviation could be possible but pirates are kinda the obvious choice.
Im actually planning on going to the one in Tampa. Ive been wanting to go back down to Florida for a roller coaster trip and i haven’t been wanting to cough up the money to do so but the stadium series game was enough to get me to go back down. I went to Florida for a roller coaster trip in May 2022 and have been dying to go back since,
I was at the 2017 Stadium Series at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh and it was freezing. The one in Tampa will be a way different experience for me, im excited to go to the game,
I personally cannot wait as a Floridian who has been a cats fan since 93, I’ll be going to both games. However, I don’t agree that the Rags should be back in…. If the NHL is dead set on these 4 teams it should have been flipped. Tampa V Rags and Cats V Boohooins would make a better rivalry game.
I agree that New York and Boston, and even Chicago, have been in it a lot. One thing to consider, is how well do the fan basses travel for things like this. I get the point of Florida teams and the state, in general, is a hockey hotbed. It seems like the Canadian teams have been underused in these games, but it almost has to be between two Canadian teams, for travel purposes. If an American based team were to have a game in Canada, from Florida or one of the other Southern based teams, getting their fan base to travel to Ottawa or Winnipeg... anywhere, really, the fans that travel for these things might sit it out if the travel isn't as convenient. Another thing is, I get they like a challenge, but if a Florida game fails due to conditions being too warm, it's a potentially embarrassing situation, which they don't need. A few mad fans in Tampa aren't as big a deal as an entire Raymond James stadium full of fans who traveled to see this spectacle and find out that it's postponed or canceled because the NHL's ice guru wasn't up to the challenge...
The thing with the Miami stadium is it’s a retractable roof. So what happens if they close it for certain circumstances. Is it just an arena then lol ?
I think they have the Rangers coming to Florida because there are a lot of former New Yorkers, and snow birds who are Rangers fans down there. It would also be something if it rains the day of the game and they close the roof at Marlins Park, making it just a giant indoor hockey game. Unless they just keep the roof open regardless of the weather outside.
Honestly I see nothing wrong with the team selections especially seeing they've been 2 juggernauts in the last 5 or 6 years and have won 4 combined cups in like 5 or 6 years, but I will be curious to see how they do the ice and also what time they do the games. It would most certainly be at night being that it is in Florida. With that said I am excited to see Florida's Winter Classic uniforms seeing they were the last team (outside Utah) to be in an outdoor game (I believe). I wish it wasn't always Boston Chicago or Pittsburgh all the time as an opponent and even NY is getting a lot of outdoor games as well.
As a life-long Panthers fan I love this. However, totally agree with the opinion regarding their opponent. Also that it’s weird to call it the Winter Classic. BUT… I’m glad it’s the Classic because then at least one could hope for some good looking retro jerseys instead of something completely weird and too much of everything that we often see in the Stadium Series.
Well, it will be Winter in Miami on January 2. It's a season determined by astronomy, lasting 3 months beginning on December 21, 2025. But, yeah, I'm with you. I prefer games in colder climates.
Problem is, if it is Panthers vs Rangers in NY, Rangers have to be the away team like they were against Buffalo. Even though Buffalo wore white they were still the home team but both were still New York state teams. Kinda weird if Panthers are the home team in NY.
The issue with the Winter Classic is less the locaiton and more the day ... The Winter Classic NEEEDS to be Janurary 1st ... to ring in the new year with one single huge hockey game. Second is that they NEED to have great Jerseys. Nashville has failed at bother of their outdoor games, and most of the ourdoor games jerseys have sucked. Third is the teams ... They do want at least one huge American Fanbase each game ... that is fine and understandable, though if the goal is to make it a celebration event and grow the sport, they neeed to spread them around a good bit and do try to make it fun game for the TV viewers. The location of a place that might snow or not is less of an issue. Get the game on the right day, and with great Jerseys and make it an experiance both for the locals and the broadcast and it'll be great.
The florida everblades have won 3 kelly cups in a row and led the league in echl sellouts, the bolts and panthers have won almost all the stanley cups in the last 5-6 years and have dominated the hockey scene for a decade. Sell outs included. Hockey is just as relevant than anywhere else
I never said Hockey in Florida wasn't as relevant as everywhere else. In fact I said the exact opposite in the video when I agreed with Gary's statement that I read.
why not just have Tampa and Florida play each other? Florida doesn't have a winter....so this just seems weird. But at least its actually on Jan 2...last year's on NYE sucked. The Dallas vs Nashville game in 2020 was freaking awesome to be at, just a sidenote
Im honestly perfectly okay with a WINTER classic game in Florida mostly because, if we are all being honest with ourselves, the Winter Classic has lost a lot of its charm, id say ever since they went back to Fenway a couple years ago, just isnt the same thing, so why not.
The NHL is one of the poorest marketing company in Sports ... The MLB is by far the best ... GREAT Video ..appreciate the work and all the folks that contribute ..Peace from YEG
With these games will have to play AT NIGHT, Plus both Stadiums have problems. LoanDepot Park is a domes stadium that never opens in the MLB at daytime, Raymond James Stadium is open-air and most Bucs game play at night The Ducks, Coyotes, Flames, Blue Jackets, Oilers, Panthers, Kings, Sharks, Canucks, Utah, Knights, and Jets NEVER hosted the Winter Classic AND/OR Stadium Series Columbus will host Stadium Series but NOT WINTER CLASSIC
So I don't know where you got your information about most bucs games being at night the bucs played 6 of 8 home games with a start time of 1, one was a 4:25 start and one 8:15 start. Also in 2015 I believe the kings and sharks played each other in a stadium series game but I don't remember who hosted it.
So the WINTER classic is being held in the state where half of major league baseball goes to do their spring training because they want to get away from the cold and snow? Yeah I agree that's pretty stupid. ALSO I think it wrong to have 1 state hosting both games. Spred it around.
Honestly the novelty has worn off. The league has just milked this cow to the point it is dry. Every few years would be great, but it has become just bland at this point. I recall a few years ago they had LA vs Anaheim in an outdoor game, and there were issues with the ice. Having these type of events in the south or warm areas of the US is kind of dumb. Not to say it doesn’t get cold (it is currently 30 F here in San Antonio), but it is more the exception than the rule. I would, however, definitely agree they need more of the other teams involved if they are going to continue with this blatant money making scheme. Have an original 6 series with Montreal vs Toronto or Toronto vs Detroit, so on and so on in outdoor games. No more Rangers, tired of seeing them play in these things.
Too many games in stadiums. People don't care at all at the Winter Classic now and those stadium games. The last Winter Classic was the worst for tv rating in the USA last january 1st. Only 920,000 watch it !!!!
So bored with this already. I used to love watching these. Now it’s all the same teams over and over again. Oh look, Rangers, and Bruins, again… and in Florida. I’m happy for those fans. But the temperatures are not good for ice. I can’t imagine how much the NHL will have to spend on cooling equipment. And I have zero interest in seeing Seattle (again), or Utah. They don’t even have a team name yet. This is just comical at this point. And the jerseys… remember NJ and NYI? Those were so boring and cookie cutter.
I love that it’s in Florida…

Totally agree with your gripes Neil! Fairness should always be a thing when it comes to special events in sports like outdoor games in hockey.
They should hold a winter classic/stadium series at Lambeau field.
Hawks vs. Wild or Red Wings. That would be cool! Would be similar to the game at Notre Dame.

An outdoor in winter in florida is no different temp wise than a regular hockey game in a stadium
It's not about it being warmer. It's about it not being 'cold' (and maybe snowy).

What's the point even in a ''winter classic'' if it's in a sunny state.
winter ≠ snow
Winter is a season determined by astronomy. Sunny states still have 3 months of winter every year.

Leafs vs Habs at Roger’s centre (assuming roof opens in winter). Blue and Red jersey matchup
