Hey Sarah! I was diving into everything edible I saw in the vid, even into the tomatoes. I love those various things made of kuruzno brašno, palenta etc. Yummy! The zagorski štrukli are..well you know how to to make sb.'s mouth water. :) One of my grannies, baka Barica was from Zagorje. When we spoiled something as kids, she just said: "Ajde v rit!" 😂

I don't know why but here in Magallanes Chilean Patagonia all Croatian descendants use the word nona and nono to refer to our grandparents, surely it is that most of us have our ancestors in the Adriatic, especially Dalmatia where there is a lot of Italian influence. My nona used to make a similar sweet called "Pita od Jabuka", the same ingredients as a strudel but instead of rolling it with the dough, it is placed between two layers of dough.
This came on right after something else I watched and continued because I also had Baka Jagica who made Štrudlu while I was growing up, in a small village called Potok. I truly enjoyed the video and loved the relationship you have with your kumica i baka Jagica. Happy to see that you and your daughter speak Croatian.

Looks different from what my Baka and mother make but it’s the exact same thing, fun fact cheese strudle essentially śtrukli was invented in Austria and likely spread to Croatia due to the closeness in borders Venetian traders and the fact that Croatia was under österreich 🇦🇹 control for hundreds of years it’s also likely the Reasons j is pronounced (yuh) is because of the German and Frankish influence from the empires that were on its doorstep the Germans are also one of the main reasons Croatia is so catholic as the franks greatly influenced them rather than the Byzantine who were orthodox and those who used the Cyrillic alphabet instead of the Latin alphabet Croatia being one of the 2 only Slav balkan countries to use Latin (Bosnia doesn’t count they use both) I thought I would share.
@@Lily-cv1ds Strudel is made with something more like puff pastry and it's usually sweet, Strukli is made with homemade filo pastry and usually salty but can also bee sweet (someone put raisins in the cheese) . My mom made štrukli ( in my region we call this gibanica) with apple or sweet cherry even pumpkins mixed with poppy seed or cheese (but pumpkins need to be green not ripe)
I'm from Zagorje and I like the video very much, but I have to say that never in my life have I seen anybody make "zlijevanka/zlijevka" like this. Zlijevka is a cake made out of corn flour that you bake in an oven. It can be plain or you can add jam or cheese.
Visnja was my favourite drink in Croatia ! How strong was the one you had here on the video ! My cousins would have different strength ones. They would say the lighter ones were for the women !

You are so so lucky to have so nice and welcoming husband’s family. My husband is British and his parents are divorced and not that friendly. Cold Westerners without a soul&heart. They think that us Eastern Europeans are lower creatures in this world. When I come to the UK for the first time his dad asked me do I ever see motorways and cars ... so so backwards and non cultured! My parents will do everything for my husband! I just don’t have a luck...:-(

Kakva je to zlevanka? Zlevanka se peče u pećnici i jede kao kolač. Doduše ne jako slatki kolač, ali svejedno kolač. I ide i pšenično brašno u nju, i sir i vrhnje. Ovo je jako čudna zlevanka. Mislim okej, vjerujem da se u svakom selu/gradu/obitelji radi drugačije ali ovo je fakat neobično.
