This is one island I wanted to visit. I been to many places where battles were fought in WWII. Yap Island is where I planned to go. But didn't make it before the pandemic. Now you can't visit this island. This little island is where WWII actually ended. The Japanese on the island surrendered on Sep 5th, 1945. Three days (Sep 2nd, 1945) after they surrendered in Tokyo Bay, Japan.
This is one of the best 2019 Yap videos I've seen. I sorely miss the videos of mixed stick dances at the stone money bank at the traditional village. Maybe they've moved everything to the museum. No matter. You filmed the event from start to finish (except the entrance and exit), and this video was the only one I've seen this year showing the progression from slow beginning to spirited finish. It captured the grace and excitement of the traditional Yapese stick dance. Keep up the good work.
It is fantastic to see an insight into original indigenous culture unspoiled by westernisation and the old British empires colonial impact it would be fantastic to see this in Australia
Thanks for a great video. The more we learn, stick dances seem to be spread as wide as human kind. I'm not familiar with this culture but would like to learn more.
I have never seen this before. Not very familiar with the people and the culture. I enjoyed learning about this. Glad to see people practicing traditional culture.

@@Nepukosweno I lived on yap as a child from 1955 or 54 till I left in 1960. I was basically a white native learned and lived with my friends. I went back on and off through the years. Sadly the last time i was there was in 1970 for a year. So my developing years made me who I am. I still identify myself to yap. My home mentally is yap. And yes, as a child i spoke yapese. Sadly that ability has gone. Anyway, yea, in my soul I'm yapese.
@@Nepukosweno well, I still have yap in my heart. I consider it home. So I'm home sick. If you dont understand that then there is no explanation for you.
This part of the island doesn't perform breakdance, as the original stick dance came from then spread through out the island. It's harder than shooting star bamboo dance. All parts of the body have to follow the movement of the bamboo gracefully. Imagine just jumping up and running for no reason!
Brings back memories of home. Thank you, Kamagar, for sharing!

The aborigines practice their traditions. Is their culture not vibrant enough for you?
@@stuckinperthhe was simply admiring this culture outside his own. Why do you have to make it a negative connotation?

I just wish they would be more alive, awake. Kind of lazy. Stick dance is hard but I was expecting see more movement.
Sorry but we don’t do breakdancing, its traditionally, it’s made by our ancestors so we have to follow it😊
