Phd is useful when you try to get into R&D. People say its not useful but somehow its useful to climb the ladder.

Hey I'm a veteran and I'm about to us my voc rehab to go to school for computer science. I was always a big physics nerd and always wanted to work with technology and software. I'm 30 years old and I'm wondering if that's too old to try and pursue a degree in the field. I really like the Idea of working on research projects and I'm really curious about the theoretical side of CS.

Hi, 30 isn’t old at all ;) For computer science or a career in software engineering I would say there is no age limit. Of course you need to find a PhD position and in the interview explain why you haven’t done this earlier but serving your country is a pretty good explanation isn’t it? Also a lot of computer science research is still funded by the defence sector (not only in the US). So being a veteran might even give you an advantage here. All the best! Florian

Nice library in the background. I think I see some LNCS titles?

Good attention to detail, yes mostly the ones my papers are published in.

Thanks for this. Even if i may not do a phd, I'm still trying to study computer science so it may be relevant
