2020 Kia Forte GT Test Drive Review: Turbo Sport Compact with Great Value

- The Kia Forte GT takes the standard Forte and injects a lot of personality, and performance, at least with the specs on paper. The torsion beam rear suspension is swapped for a multi-link independent suspension. The 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gets a big boost in power, up to 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. You can get either a 6-speed manual, or a 7-speed dual clutch automatic (DCT), and don't forget the larger wheel and tire package, as well as bigger brakes.
But, I suspect that the Forte GT hasn't been designed to be track day wonder that the Honda Civic Si is. Instead, it is inspired by vehicles like the Volkswagen Golf GTI and the Mazda3, offering sporting flair, but with a notable luxury and comfort-oriented setup. Is it worth $26,000? Let's dig into it.

Ok a few things you should before buying that cannot be changed!!!!!
Reverse beeps and basically turns off your music
Parking distance warning CANNOT be shut off and will go off even if your parking in a normal ny spot- also bumper guards set it off
Forward collision warning is extremely sensitive and does a lot more harm then good- mine goes off all the time rip my break pads Kia safety is actually dangerous
Car gives obnoxious long and loud beeps when you leave the car on and exit with the key
DOES NOT come standard with a mat for the trunk, just the floor of it (thin headliner material)
Sport mode does use fake noise I presume it comes from the same speaker that beep when you leave the car
Car won’t stop beeping if you don’t wear a seatbelt and drive- even if you go into park
Car beeps if door is open while in any gear even if not moving
You might find these helpful but overall I am not impressed with these “safety” features which leave me yelling at the car to stfu
Everything you mentioned can be adjusted in the settings.
I don’t think the sport mode uses fake noise tho….. I don’t think it’s necessary anyway because the original exhaust note is super loud already
@@RandomVideos-re9ux It actually does have a speaker just under the wipers to pump in exhaust noise to the cabin.
@@snooterpuff i’m pretty sure it can be turned off tho……right? I mean it has a really good note already, so why would they need to do pumped in audio
@@RandomVideos-re9ux The only way to disable it is to disconnect the speaker.
Great review bro! I subbed!
26k before discounts....you can get it for much less, makes it even better!
26k is already a really good price for this heck of a car, but we can get it for less than that?! holy crap ima buy the shit out of it
My dealer is asking for a 2k markup :(
What is the 0-60 you felt? Do you think with some moderate mods it could be even more fun? Maybe a Racechip upgrade and CAI/exhaust mod?
I think with a manual transmission and a tune, it would feel a lot more fun.
@@DriveBreakFixRepeat I don’t drive stick though:(
What are your thoughts on the CAI/exhaust and Racechip scenario?
@Ed Findlay Wow! Do you recommend Racechip or another one?
Drive in sports mode, turn off traction control, hold traction control button for 3 seconds and turn off stability control and turn off lane assist.
I am searching for a new car to replace my original owner 2006 Mazda3 5sp sedan.Problem is no dealers have any manual transmission cars on the lot in my area, around Chatt, TN.. I did get to test drive a 2020 Civic SI , but other than a GTI VW , I have not found any other makes to try out with a manual. I would have gladly replaced my Mazda3 sedan with another Mazda sedan(3or6) if they had a manual but I don't like any year Mazda hatchback plus they cost way too much now. So I am on hold until something changes as I still enjoy my 14 year old Mazda3. It is still fun to drive!
You pay $600 more for the standard transmission, but they throw in the sunroof and Harmon Kardon stereo.
So happy I was able to find it in a 6 speed. Had to travel 3 hours and 30 minutes to get it 😆
Was there a dealer markup?
@@ihmpall Picking up my 2021 Kia Forte GT 6 speed on the next Thursday and yes....there was a 2k markup for it. Can't wait!
Just because a manual is more expensive doesn't mean there's an agenda and a preference by the manufacture to discourage you from buying the manual. Unless they said it outright and you have proof, I'm going to call BS. And I can't hear your voice as well as I'd like because the car noise and the music is too loud.
Manual is actually cheaper- it costs more but adds sunroof, ac seats etc I have automatic and had to pay $2,000 extra for those
If it had a LSD and the 2.0t from Kia this would have beeen a hot hatch...in Canada we have the Forte5 hatch .
Maybe Kia does what the sister is doing and start a N division. GT
could mean their hot versions.
It feels like Hyundai often saves the good stuff for themselves, and Kia has to work with what they've got. This is basically a less expensive Elantra Sport underneath.
Is it quiet on the road at highway speed? Is there wind noise? Is there tire noise? I'm thinking to some degree there is because it seemed like your voice was raised "just a tiny wee bit"!
The answer is yes, to a slight degree. I own this and a v6 charger. Smaller cars tend 2 not have as much insulation as bigger cars. My charger is super quiet. Even at higher speeds. The Gt, not so much. Plus it has a standard active exhaust. Not loud but noticeable and sporty.
i’m pretty sure the exhaust note will be more muted if you drive in normal mode. In the segment tho, i think the noise level is adequate.
That’s not a panoramic sunroof.
Awesome video. Your takes on cars like the current Si match up with mine closely, so your impressions are helpful. Thanks for the vid!
Glad you found it helpful.
Great Review and Info. New Subscriber.
Welcome!
NICE REVIEW!
Great review. Buttonwillow this Saturday with speed ventures, you coming?
It's going to be about a million degrees outside, but let me check if any spots are left. The past 3 track days I tried to sign up for sold out fast.
Jake Stumph you can drive my car for a lap! It’s a slightly modified’17 si coupe 👍🏼. And you can also coach me lol
@@isaacmarquez565 Sold out, like every track day I try to sign up for now.
nice review, please get a proper mic.
About to say the same
there’s nothing wrong with the mic. I don’t really get your issue
@@RandomVideos-re9ux I think the mic is alright, not the best. But, that music needs to go lol. I rather listen to the car noise and him speaking.
The DCT is okay. I have it in the Seltos. I'm glad I spent the extra money for the 6 speed in my GT.
The DCT is faster and more reliable than the manual.
@@jaym.9275 What makes you think it's more reliable?
@@Ichibuns I've read on forums the manual transmission has a rattle at high rpms. I havent heard anything bad about dct
@@jaym.9275 I can tell you there is definitely no rattle lol
@@jaym.9275 I'm not saying the manufactures can't make mistakes but I can almost guarantee that noise is the throw out bearing. It wears quickly when people rest their foot on the clutch and is a way more common issue than it should be.
Jordan Henderson is doing car reviews?! Sick. Nice American accent btw.
