      @TazarYoot so glad you got value out of it. Keep it mind that rules have changed and mechanics have become better understood since the video was published. But the concept is there.

    On the curiosa website, they clarify maelstrom by saying that "each minion" means "all of them", so if you choose to pull, you must pull everything. Additionally, (from what I've been able to look up) "pulled" always means towards the target location.
    Basically, everything in the water gets slowly sucked into the maelstrom. Once it's there, it doesn't move any further.

      That makes sense. Thanks for the clarification.

    For Ice lance it says each of up to one minion on each of the first three squares so I read that as it hits a maximum of one minion per square for 3 squares wuth the first one taking 3, second taking 2 and so on.
    I really enjoyed the video, it was very informative and I can't wait to get my set of precons in paper.

    • @TedsBasementPodcast

      it doesn't used the text "squares" it says "locations", i think that's one of the reasons we were not so clear. what's a location? is it a square or is it literally just allocation that a creature sits, meaning, 3 creatures in the same square could be hit.

    • @dream.penguin
      @dream.penguin ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Had the same thought and question about that. Feels/reads like locations is referring to grid squares. Also other cards like megamoeba at 1:17:24 use the same language presumably for grid squares.

    • @lystic9392
      @lystic9392 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@dream.penguin As I understood it (0.8 ruleset):
      A square refers to what you think it does: one square on the grid.
      A region refers to either the void, the surface, the underground or the underwater portion.
      And a location refers to both the square and the region. (So it's the square + keeping the region in mind.)
      So in this case it would be referring to the first three squares along its path on the surface, because your caster was on the surface. Projectiles (normally) stay within the same region as the Caster firing it.
      (An interesting rule as well is: A projectile like the Ice Lance can either start at the caster's location, or on a location adjacent to the caster in the direction it is cast. This way you could hit an enemy on the same location as your Caster. Which in the past was not possible and felt a little odd.)
      As the card says one unit on each of the first three locations, I THINK what they mean is one unit at each location that it travels through. Not more than one.

    • @dream.penguin
      @dream.penguin ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Lystic thanks for the info, language is definitely important for clarity and what you have outlined makes alot of sense. I am quite looking forward to seeing this one release and like the direction they are taking.

    Hey Ted, I know this is an old video but do you know if you were playing Maelstrom wrong in this video? I can't seem to find real clarification about Push/Pull. The rules say pick a cardinal direction and in this video you move minions in directions "away" from Maelstrom. However, I've also seen it indicated that pull means you can only move things closer or toward to Maelstrom. Intuitively, it makes sense that Pull is closer and Push is away.

  • @XchippyOdeathX
    @XchippyOdeathX ปีที่แล้ว +3

    At 56:19 you pick up both artifacts with the same creature. I’m just wondering if this is correct since even though the rules do state that a unit can carry any number of artifacts it also states that “once per turn a unit at rest may pick up an artifact at its location.” That’s page 26. I read that as a single creature can pick up a single artifact once per turn.
    Just curious! Awesome and super helpful video! Thanks!

      O good question. I'm not the one to make that call. You'd have to ask a judge, but if you find out, let us know here. Again, great question.

      O snap! Good catch! There are definitely mis-plays in this video. We need to do another now that the game has been out longer. I think the issue here is that we didn't have the card face in TTS due to a glitch, so we didn't have those words in front of us. Thanks for pointing this out.

  • @chainfire9001
    @chainfire9001 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    45:35 I've noticed this is a recurring problem with Sorcery, the lack of clarity due to poor/insufficient templating and wording. It's not clear that "pull in" somehow allows you to move minions any direction. Same for the fellow who said you can submerge minions with this effect (because that also counts as a 1-unit move), it's not clear that "pull in" would allow that considering that other cards specifically say to "submerge" a minion (and one says it can "drag _down_" another minion).
    These inconsistencies may be fine for casual play, but if their goal is to have organized/competitive play, then the developers really need to tighten this up.

    • @TedsBasementPodcast
      @TedsBasementPodcast  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They could benefit from more clarity, I totally agree. I suspect they are working on that.

  • @LifezAGame
    @LifezAGame ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Can you summon a Submerge or Burrow minion beneath? The rules are unclear but seem to indicate yes. Also, can you move submerged from one water site to another without surfacing? Can I attack submerged from one site to the top of an adjacent site?

    • @TedsBasementPodcast
      @TedsBasementPodcast  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You may still want to verify this with a judge or on the latest rulebook, but I believe you can summon above or below when it's a burrowing or submerged minion, its your choice. You can move submerged from site to site as long as the site is of the proper type. This means a water site to a water site if submerged. I also believe when you take action to move the minion from below to above that counts as 1 space move, so attacking adjacent and above (if you are currently below) would require your minion to have the ability to do a movement of 2. There are spells that grant that if your minion doesn't already have it.

  • @LuscoBrusco
    @LuscoBrusco ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks a lot for this super interesting match, this is dramatically helpful for beginners like me. Question, at 1:22:00: isn't the ice lance supposed to hit for 2 your kelpie as well? In the text of the lance i understand that it is hitting anything on its path - up to 1 entity - no matter the owner. Am I wrong? Thanks again!

    • @LuscoBrusco
      @LuscoBrusco ปีที่แล้ว

      I mean, up to 1 entity PER square on its path

    • @TedsBasementPodcast
      @TedsBasementPodcast  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm, I don't know about that. If you find a judge through one of the Sorcery related discords, have them review it at the timestamp you mentioned and see what they say. If you find out how they would judge it, let me know here. It would be good to know 😀

    • @yumyumeatemup
      @yumyumeatemup ปีที่แล้ว

      So the language on this as i understand it being "up to one" would mean that you can only target a MAXIMUM of 1 creature to target along the ice lance's trajectory. However you still choose UP TO. Meaning that you can choose NO minions for that space. This would allow you to go 1 on the avatar, and then if the other 2 spaces along the path had only your creatures occupying them you could choose no creature on each of them and still be fulfilling the rules of the card.

  • @Mr13chapters
    @Mr13chapters 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Am I correct in that ice lance would’ve only killed two out of the three units because the bannerman is providing a +1 power to nearby allies?

    • @TedsBasementPodcast
      @TedsBasementPodcast  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You may be correct, I'd have to get someone who knows the rules better than me to judge it.

  • @Sypholux
    @Sypholux ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Was Ice Lance played right? The first location from the avatar was empty. And 2 units were in the same location. (Up to one unit at first 3 locations)

    • @TedsBasementPodcast
      @TedsBasementPodcast  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My question is, is a "location" a site? Or a location of a given minion? Meaning, could there be 3 target locations in 2 sites (1 minion on 1 site, and 2 minions on another site), and sll 3 minions get hit. Not sure.

    • @Sypholux
      @Sypholux ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TedsBasementPodcastI would say logically a location is the same as a numbered square on the board. Its an ordinary card. I would be too OP otherwise (as you saw). It goes out 3 squares and if a unit happens to be on one it does damage (UP to one per square and decreasing damage). It also makes sense that it's a lance and doesn't fly too far.

  • @LifezAGame
    @LifezAGame ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Also, can artifacts like spear of destiny be immediately equipped to a unit? Or do you play it at the site where the unit can tap to equip it?

    • @TedsBasementPodcast
      @TedsBasementPodcast  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can't remember if the artifact is automatically picked up when it and a minion are on the same site or if a tap is required to pick it up. Either way, I think the answer is the same when you spawn the artifact. I don't think it spawns in the hand of a minion. I could be wrong. I need a refresher on that.

    Can someone please tell me why the frogs can't defend at the end? I missed the reasoning

    • @TedsBasementPodcast
      @TedsBasementPodcast  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If i remember correctly, its because the attacker get's to decide the target of the Spear of Destiny in cases where more than one target exists on a site. So even if I tried to block, the attacker would just decide that my avatar is the target not the blocking minion. If Mike or anyone else believes something different please let us know.

    The only thing I dont like about this card game is being able to attack sites. I hope a better mechanic is thought up like only certain creatures or spells can hit lands.

    • @TedsBasementPodcast
      @TedsBasementPodcast  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I appreciate the comment. I wonder if you could get the outc8 you desire with a card that says your sites can not be attacked. I'm just thinking through options because other people like that sites get attacked, it's just personal preference. But if a card could protect them, then you can build your deck to suit your style a bit more. Just a thought 😀. Thanks again for commenting. I'm stoked for this game to come out.

      @@TedsBasementPodcast My thinking is this, why bother heading towards the sorcerer? just use the creatures to attack the surrounding lands then deal the death blow, dont get me wrong I am exited for this game. I am a backer and will receive my case and pre constructed decks soon, I am just not a fan of being able to attack lands because it takes away from the chess feel of the game which is very appealing to me. Love the channel and than you for responding.

      @Grim Jr. I (Ted) just watched it. He (Mike) decided to only rearrange 2 of the squares within a 2x2 (4 square) region. So he either misinterpreted the card and didn't realize he could have rearranged more spaces, or he decided to only move 2 of the 4 possible spaces. I didn't take his response to mean he was explicitly defining a 2x2 region as only 2 squares, i took his response to mean those were the only 2 cards he wanted to move. The only way we would know for sure which way he was thinking would be to ask him. Thanks for commenting because we always want to check for accuracy. Appreciate you taking the time to do that.

    Should have used maelstrom to pull minions underwater since moving under a surface is a step. The card even shows minions being pulled underwater. The Naiads ability of flooding a site is not a tap ability because it does not say tap before the ability it is a continuous ability. There are quite a few more mistakes. Probably shouldnt put out a how to video when you dont really know how to play the game.
