Two great books related to this video. “The secret race” - talks about doping in cycling, Lance and the drug fest. “Endure” - talks about human endurance and is it a test of the body or test of the mind. Great books to read!
i think the word you were looking for was exponentially increase in the limit conversation, it'll increase but by a smaller and smaller margin every time. so for the 100m world record it could broken by like 0.2 seconds and then 0.1 after that etc
There was a great study on the mental side of sport and in the study it explained that when something is believed impossible then its less likely that the record will be broken. There was a record a while back that was believed to be scientifically impossible to beat without mechanical/medical assistance, the record was broken then the new record was broken instantly after. A lot of time its just down to mental blocks.
Jack C i fucking doubt it considering he’s in the USADA testing pool and he's never been popped for PED'S. Not everyone is on juice mate don’t preach shit on the internet.
Samwell Tarly You clearly don’t know much about the history of USADA and how recent it is, he hasn’t won a fight since 2016 UFC started using USADA I’m mid 2015 it doesn’t take a genius to do the maths and realise that a lot of people were cheating and getting away with it then.
The reason why when something has been done and then other people start doing it (e.g. 4 min mile) is because in sport belief changes everything. Literally
With football, the advantage someone one get from taking steroids isn’t as significant as someone who’s just doing one movement (E.g. sprinting, cycling). The things that make someone really good at football are more mental, spacial awareness, hand eye coordination, timings etc.
16:20 that’s due to the technology we have today, people used to run without shoes and obviously it’s completely different now and they have all the things to do and be better now
Think about it this way. In the 90s every single footballer was probably smashing the gear yet none of them were caught. Tony Adams, Gazza and Mersin all have huge problems with gear these days. Plus the testing levels probably haven’t changed
With drug testing of professional athletes, you have to give the national anti doping agency a detailed list of where you're expected to be throughout the day so that they can come to you and test you. Another thing is that you have to allocate a 1 hour slot in their day and a location so that the anti doping agency can come and test you
Rob that’s just naivety, you have to think that any physical advantage that these top athletes can get, they will take. Steroids may make a football player win a lot more duals in the air, steroids may enhance Feds chances of best at his best in the 5th set. There’s too much money in these sports for it to not be used, it is used, just hidden. Why do you think every football player who gets a big money move to Real Madrid is a huge, well built athlete within 6/7 months of their move. Look at Bale ffs. It happens.
GodPeen the Russians couldn’t beat most Americans, Chinese and British athletes at multiple olympics. And at the olympics it I so hard to get away with cheating, which is why Russia got caught. If everyone else cheated they would be caught
ZeeC the Russians were massively successful when population was factored in. As China and America have 20 and 3 times the population respectively. If you think non of the western athletes are cheating too then you are naive. It’s rife.
It says it all that out of the top 30 100m sprint times ever, 21 of them were run by people who have since been banned for taking drugs. The other 9 times were run by Bolt, he's just not been caught yet.
@@zac1672 Hard to get away with at the Olympics? Russia got away with it for years, the only reason they got caught was because of a whistleblower. If that person hadn't spoke out then Russia would have continued to get away with it.
Main difference in sports people in the last hundred years is time. There are professional athletes in all sports now. That train ALL. THE. TIME. Plus sports technology and dietary stuff.
A major sport I'm Australia called AFL, there was a player named Ben Cousins who was by far the best player in the sport. He won grand finals and best and fairest for his team and league best player but in the end it was found out that he was using cocaine and other drugs. So the use of normal drugs can improve performance because in Ben cousins situation he used it as a relief after smashing himself and pushing his limits during training and games. For more information look up Ben Cousins documentary and you'll be super informed with the situation. Basically he used cocaine and ice as a relief after training which ended up increasing him performance in the sport. So normal drugs can also have an effect like a performance enhancing drug 😊
15:58 this is actually a fantastic point, when you think about it from a biological perspective some of these records would most likely have required some form of "assistance"
I have an idea for both of you Why don’t you guys do a 100M sprint and both of you get a month to see who decreases their time more? So it’s not all about who wins but also who improves more Guys like this so they see it and encourage them to do it it’ll be a pretty good video or series
Testing in all sports needs to be boosted, if sports are going to say that they test they need to do it more and regularly when athletes are off season
Technology, diet, new training methods, change in how athletes live their lives out of competition there is loads of methods of why athletes are now getting quicker times and breaking records as well as the majority of them being on steroids and performance enhancing drugs
People need to realise steroids arent a super drug that megaboosts performance. It simply allows a rapid recovery and a minor boost on athletes who are already the 0.0000001% top tier genetically. Lance armstrong wouldve most likely still been the best cyclist of all time anyway, and tyson gay with steroids still couldnt beat bolt.
Max Landsborough it’s not a minor boost, steroids have innumerable advantages for sport. Apparently reflexes, fast twitch muscle fibres and other things are affected as well as just rapid recovery. A test group took steroids and gained on average 7lbs of muscle without even touching a weight.
I don't think athletes like bolt and Federer are on steroids, they are just genetically perfect for their sports. However.... Footballer when they are 'injured' after having the best of the best medical team around them is suspicious. They get injured far too much for it to be genuine. The thing with bolt is that he is bloody tall as well, his strides would be massive
Cyclists and long distance runners typically use ergogenic aids such as EPO doping, this effectively increases the presence of red blood cells in the body. Joe this isn’t hate I actually have the maddest respect for you, if this is true about athletes what about all the other amazing things we’ve achieved like comedians do they take drugs to make them funnier?
When going on about the female sprinters being huge monsters, they’re not that big up close however the reasons for this is, they’re different types of muscles fibres... basically when you do loads of explosive sprints you increase the amount of Type 2x or b muscle fibres that are the largest of the 3 types.... so being a sprinter and sprinting throughout your life will be the reason of the large muscle and why footballers are not normally that big as they don’t always sprint.
There was a video uploaded other week and have deleted since where you were looking sad and a few bad things had gone down, I hope you’re doing okay bro xxxx
What Joe said about the limit is true. But it's different for everyone, no matter how hard I train my whole life I might not be able to run 100m in less than 10 seconds, and someone else light be able to do 9:80 but if somebody just randomly runs 100m in less than 9 or 8 seconds then that's obviously something strange with that since nobody else has even been close to do it natural. Cause our body can only get so much muscles and so low body fat % without supplements. That's our limit
Personally I think a SEPERATE Olympics that allowed performance enhancing supplements would be amazing to watch...... Imagine, no regulation on supplements, pushing the human body to absolute PEAKKK performance. The records would be phenomenal.
I agree. It's not sexist to say that women aren't as physically athletic as men, it's a biological fact. It's a shame that he feels so pressured to only say things if they're deemed 'politically correct' and 'safe', instead of feeling the freedom to be able to speak his mind.
Effectively elite athletes are super human in a sense. They have the ability to do things that others can't, hence why they are classed as elite, is what i think Theo is trying to say and therefore limits will constantly be pushed as people will continue to be better
