I have a similar problem, I always wanted a Mk1 Mexico. I did manage to find a Mk2 Mexico and after 2 years of cutting welding and repainting, the car looks awesome, absolutely pristine inside and out. I have now run out of cash and the engine needs to be rebuilt. I have given up, I have covered over the car. People say I should have got it running first, but the car was stripped to its shell and dipped, so I had to get the engine bay painted anyway before reinstalling the motor, so it is the way I chose. I may end up getting some sort of loan against the car to pay for the engine and gearbox rebuild after the payments end on my daily runner.

cossy mike hi mate when you got your puma linkage what was the tensioner like in the selector it’s self because mine seems sloppy still. Is the tension that springs it back to neutral in the selector or at the gearbox?
I havnt done it yet but I know the Escort box doesn't have a self centre. The Puma linkage works with ib5 box and the self centre spring is inside the box. For this to work on the Escort you'll need a spring. I'll be getting a spring from an XR2 and I'll fit it inside of the black plastic housing of the Puma one

I had exactly the same problem with them rubber gaskets on my Scorpio 4x4 turbo build. I went through 3-4 gaskets rubber ones , which kept splitting once torqued up 8-10nm , I finally found a good one from BGA Which was a stiffer rubber cork style , but was still very flexible and didn't sqwash much. and didn't split , if your having trouble later on , hopefully it holds for you but that might be an option later on. I know I'll be buying afew sets as mine is gonna leak again , as it's old!

Do some -1 low compression pistons and a piper 285t2 cam will let you run very high boost used to run mine back in the day on 40 psi from the stage 3 t3 turbo unit was good fun i do miss that car

Very nice , it sounds so smooth and doesn't it sound like it revs freely now .Personally I wouldn’t bother with the rear disc conversion its more trouble than its worth and the front brakes do 70 percent of the work anyway , just a old school gimmick that the car doesn't really need .
Aaron Unknown I gone out of my way to convert mine back to 9” drums , some how it’s difficult to get the right balance with rear disc and the hand brake was rubbish 👍🏻
I have used gaskets for the bottom end now. Still fking leaking.. I cannot make it seal at all! Tried Burtons Gasket and original Ford. Still not sealed…
sounds really healthy now mate, you cant go wrong with victor reinz stuff. Another place i use is gaskets for classics top gaskets and well priced. what boost are you aiming for 20ish psi? had my fiesta rs out again today done nearly 100 miles in it since sunday :)

Age 21 on an E plate RS Turbo I got the insurance down to £1200 a year 3rd Party F&T and that was with 11 points. This was 1998 btw.
I had one when I was 19 (back in 2001) £145 a month 😫
XR2 in my mum's name with me as a named driver third party cover £1500 in 2003. I paid £30 for the car I dragged it out of a garden. To be 17 again.

1583358 is the part number, showing as a couple of pound if still available. If I can't get one I'll use a spring out of and old wiper arm

This is a scorpion system mate, mongoose are great too. Dont go for magnex though
