    Loved every second of this movie. Mainly because I loved this storyline in the X-men animated TV show when I was a kid. My concern now, however, is that they probably won't be able to make a lot of sequels. Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen have aged a lot since the first 3 movies and I'm kind of afraid there will come a time when they won't be able to play their characters anymore. Hope that won't be the case, because they're awesome. But I feel like Days Of Future Past will be the apex of the franchise.

    • @ModestPilgrim1
      @ModestPilgrim1 10 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      true, but X-Men Apocalypse will use the young characters so they'd only need Patrick and Ian for cameos or flashbacks but I'm sure they'll be back for future installments! (unless they call it quits or something)

    • @catestuff
      @catestuff 10 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      I LOVED everything about this movie too. I agree about the original cast of Xmen having aged a lot and will not probably be able to do any more sequels in the future. Even Hugh Jackman has only a few more movies left in him before he gets too old to be Wolverine. But in X3 they did some CGI work to make Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen look younger when they first met Jean Grey. Anyway, it's also good that James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender have established their own stake as the younger Professor X and Magneto.

      @KaliaOrueKalis 10 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I loved this movie 2. My favorite comic book movie even more than The Avengers and Captain America: The winter Soldier. They will keep making sequels with the younger cast. Apocalypse will be the 1st one.

    • @gordonsmith24
      @gordonsmith24 10 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Based on McAvoy's and Fassbender's performances, especially in this movie, I'm not worried about Stewart and McKellen getting old.

    • @PredatorCharlie
      @PredatorCharlie 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      If you dont know, the studio officially said the movie and its happy ending is a way to say goodbye to those actors to be replace by the First Class actors. Besides Jackman 2 or 3 more times, you will NEVER see Patrick Stewart, Helen Page, etc play there X characters. Like Star Trek reboot, it continues on to younger version of those characters.

    I teared up a little bit during Xavier's speech to younger Xavier. I teared up again when we see cyclops at the end. I guess since I grew up with X-men and X2, it was emotional to see the old X men cast back together after eight years. I would like one final X-men movie with the old cast, but it probably won't happen. I guess that's fine, since I like the new cast and we're gonna get another wolverine movie with Jackman. Long live the X-men, forever.

    The reason why apocalypse is small is cause apocalypse wasn't always hulk size just like all of us he was a kid at one point and they wanted to showcase that he was a young age in the Egyptian times doing things that magneto and professor x couldn't do in present day pretty much to tell everyone he was the very first mutant and that he is powerful as hell im pretty sure as he grows up he gets bigger like how he is in the comics.

    • @andrebetita
      @andrebetita 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, sure, but he effectively erased his own movies (X-men, X2) as well. Which is brave and gracious of him, in my book.

    • @ToTheConquered
      @ToTheConquered 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Andre Betita He didn't erase his movies. The first two movies were still needed to get to the new timeline of events. The only one who will vividly know that, though, is Wolverine.

    • @andrebetita
      @andrebetita 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ToTheConquered I highly doubt that. They'd have to go to great contrivances to say that Mystique got back to working for Magneto and that Nightcrawler existed (given that Azazel died without signs of having impregnated Mystique). Even parts of X-men Origins got erased (everything after the Vietnam War scenes), I seriously doubt that the time period of X-men and X2 would still have been exactly the same.

    • @andrebetita
      @andrebetita 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Argya wanaditya Well, even forgetting about Nightcrawler, there's still everything else. Are we supposed to believe that they changed the course of history in 1973 but somehow the timeline remained exactly the same up until 2006-ish just to cancel out X-men The Last Stand? Heck, just the fact that Jean Grey is alive at the end of DoFP means that X2 couldn't possibly have happened the way it did.

    • @NinaSelene
      @NinaSelene 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andrebetita I'm sorry I'm super late. But just watched the film and wanted to know this. I think the movie kind of explains it with the "time as stream" theory where you can tweak it but it'll probably go back to it's course (so Rogue will go to the masion for example), but if you "tweak it enough" like it says, you can change the direction, like they succeeded in doing with the sentinels, and since Logan remembers everything he won't let Jean Gray and cyclops die

  • @WuMyth

  • @ModestPilgrim1
    @ModestPilgrim1 10 ปีที่แล้ว +60

    Well X-Men: Apocalypse is supposed to be a straight sequel to First Class and it takes place in the 80's so it'll focus heavily on the younger characters and not the old. also younger versions of storm, cyclops and jean are supposed to show up!!! so im guessing the movie after Apocalypse will feature the old ones!? idk its kinda confusing but cool. now they can do sequels with 2 different casts and that's awesome!

    • @CruuushaL
      @CruuushaL 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's most likely what there gonna do its just dumb too me cause Apocalypse is the biggest strongest villian of x men and there gonna have the younger cast go up against him? It just feels like a waste i wanted to see the original cast go up against him, but since there making Apocalypse out as this big disaster end of the world type movie what else could they do after that? It's like seeing spider man join the avengers but played by a different actor its good but there was potential to make it perfect, having a movie with apocalypse is good but it could have been perfect if he was fighting the original team

    • @SOG323
      @SOG323 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      SoluriZe Well, if they handle him as well as Magneto he could be a villain that spans multiple movies. After all the guy is 5000 years old and virtually immortal. Its not too much of a stretch to see the writers penning a story that could have him recurring especially if they wanna include Mr. Sinister or the celestials down the line.

      i'm guessing we'll see a younger version of his character like not a full blown badass Apocalypse but how eventually he becomes him, idk that's my take on it, but since DOFP was so amazing, they got their work cut out! They might have set the bar too high lol, either way they injected the adrenaline this series needed. They brought it back to life!

      Simple answer is yes. Only what happened in First Class really is safe. But if we think about what Hank/Beast said in this movie about how some people think you can't change time and that things are inevitable then we might be able to assume that a bunch of things we saw in the other movies still happen like Wolverine might still get his metal claws and Rogue might still meet the xmen only after running away from home. but we can probably throw the entire Wolverine movie away and the Last Stand

    This was an absolutely great movie. The script was kind of stupid in places but all the X-men movies have had that problem. The incredible look of it and the way that the paths of the characters go in so many directions and overlap and it was amazing to see where they end up. Especially surprised by how funny Quicksilvers character turned out to be. Good job Evan Peters, that one long slow time scene was genius. Also great to see Jean and Cyclops back, a next level portal gun and freaking Apocalypse. Cannot wait for the next one.

    List of things I want them to do in following sequels now
    1. Do Juggernaut right
    2. Introduce Nightcrawler as Mystique's son
    3. Introduce Cable
    4. Have the brotherhood remain as consistent enemy's, similar to Loki, but not always the main villains
    5. Have Cyclops finally lead the team for christ sake.
    6. Give Wolverine/Jackman the perfect send off by loosely adapting the Oldman Logan story.
    7. and most important, do the Dark Phoenix saga right

    I felt like First Class was more resonant, but Days of Future Past was more important. First Class had a lot of crucial emotional scenes that really solidified the characters, particularly Xavier and Magneto, in this new world. Days didn't really have that, but it had a strong plot and provided a nearly perfect setup for the Apocalypse movie in 2016.

    • @azraelswrd
      @azraelswrd 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed on the emotion. I felt little to no emotional investment with DOFP because I either already knew it was going to happen (thank you spoiler trailers) or I anticipated it because it was the only way the script could go. Only "surprise" for me was the last scene in the river because it....confused me. I'm not sure if its a strong set up for Apoc, but we'll see how a raw X-Men team handle him since the plan is to have them cross paths in the 1980s. I hope... HOPE...hope it will at least try and form the team (since the team after DOFP in the 70s is kaput). At the very least Angel for obvious reasons. :D

    Magneto was perfect in this movie. Both versions. You understand the motivation for the older version. Everything he feared has come true and they know exactly why. 70's magneto's fears have been confirmed. He's always operated under the assumption the war would come. Once he fails to kill Mystique, true to his character. He goes on the offensive. Really good.

I clapped. I was the only one clapping as my friend just say there staring at the screen for a while longer. I just clapped. You could hear the echoes of my claps throughout the room. It was just an amazing movie. I also screamed in happiness as soon as I stepped foot outside the theatre. Practically running around the parking lot. Best way to end a school year.

      Jacob Anderson In the original time line wolverine joins the X-men in 2005 the first X-men movie, in this new time line given by Days of Future past Wolverine asked the Professor to find the X-men (he specifically states finding Scott and Storm and the rest of the main characters from the original trilogy of movies) so now Charles is going to get wolverine to join his X-men so maybe in the new time line wolverine has been with the X-men since the 70s in stead of the 2000s

    Apocalypse was the first mutant and he was from ancient Egypt. His powers were telekinesis and possibly telepathy. He just looked like regular blue or greyish guy, and his name was en Sabah nur or something like that, but in reference to you saying that in this movie he is small and from what you know of him he is huge. That is actually alien technology. He finds and adapts it to his body and turns into the Apocalypse that we know today. Which in turn gives him the ability to grow in size amongst a ton of other powers, and makes him the most powerful mutant ever. Hope this helps. I love in the after credits scene you can see the original four horsemen in the back ground as the camera turns to show his face. So awesome.

    Apocalypse or "En Sabah Nur" was a young boy in that post-credit scene and that scene was, I think, set about 5000 years ago in Egypt. Apocalypse has been living on Earth until present-day time, giving him enough time to strengthen his powers and eventually become the HUGE BADASS Apocalypse. Apocalypse is considered the very first mutant and "the mutant of all mutants."
    He was nurtured in a "survival of the fittest" manner, growing and believing in that idea which eventually is a source of his mission to conquer the Earth.

  • @ChrisCrazyHouse

    Apocalyspe that you see in this movie is how he looked when he was in ancient Egypt. He evolves over the centuries by experimenting on himself, other mutants and even some alien tech to look like the Apocalypse we all know and love from the comics and cartoons. So what we see at the end credits is pretty accurate.

  • @mehfin
    @mehfin 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    okay, first of all: i loved the movie. i thought it was absolutly brilliant.
    but: there are 2 things that i just dont get and i really hope someone can explain those to me. so here we go:
    1.) the claw inconsistency that was also mentioned in the video. but more importantly:
    2.) when in the "original" timeline (in which the movie starts, with the allmighty sentinels having destroyed everything) the sentinel program was launched in the 70s, how have we never seen or heard anything about the mutant killing robots in all the other x-men movies - like x-men, x2 (, last stand) and the wolverine? because i dont think they build the sentinels in the 70s and they waited until ca 2015 to start hunting down mutants... also: how did we get from the post-credit scene from the wolverine (the airport scene with magneto and xavier showing up) to the dystopian future of dofp? and how was xavier alive in the beginning of dofp when at this point last stand had still happened????????

    • @assasinfan1
      @assasinfan1 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is an end credits scene in The Last Stand that (kinda) explains how he is alive

    • @manuelaag99og
      @manuelaag99og 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Perhaps the Sentinels were being modified secretly during the OT, seeing as how the mutants were showing to be very dangerous, but also we can assume that, at one point or another, there have been Sentinels out there (because of the Danger Room in TLS). As for what you said about Wolverine: simple as that sounds, they recruited him and he started helping them, not sure how much time happened but some did. Xavier's mind transferred itself to his brainless twin (who we saw in TLS) and thus came back to life.

  • @cornellabrams6612

    Hey Chris!!!! Great review as always. To answer your question Apocalypse is the first Mutant, or claims to be. His famous quote when ask by the X-Men who he is. Apocalypse says. "I am to you, what you are to humans." His powers are shape shifting. He can increase in height and mass. Trans form limbs into offensive and defensive weapons. He is also able to project and absorb energy, and has displayed telepathy and telekinesis. Apocalypse believes only the strongest mutant or human should survive. His philosophy is pure Darwinism. Hope that helps!

    What's so significant about Mystique impersonating Stryker at the end is that the events involving Stryker in X2 and X3 basically never happened. He never hunted the mutants down in X2, so Jean never sacrificed herself, so the events of X3 never happened. He also never found a cure for the X-gene, so Rogue is still with Iceman.
    P.S. A possibility as to how Wolverine's claws were adamantium-plated again is Magneto maybe grafted some adamantium from other parts of his body onto his claws.
    P.P.S. The events in DOFP and Origins don't really line up since Wolverine was discovered by Stryker in a prison after the Vietnam War in Origins, and the Vietnam War just ended in DOFP with Wolverine working as a bodyguard. Just a little nugget I noticed.

      +hoggis7 Although it is true that they payed respect to the comics, you also have to see that marvel couldn't do that same, couldn't even call them mutants only "miracles". I though dofp pietro was more of a comedic take and aou pietro is more a dramatic take. If you ask me, I think aou pietro has a better character, because he had a reason to fight, dofp pietro didn't other than for the thrill of breaking the law.

      Another reason why Quicksilver in DoFP was just a plot device was the way he was integrated into the plot. He came in when he was needed and as soon as that mission was done, he was dropped immediately.

  • @Kinghenhog39

    I'm so mad that Apocalypse brought back back a bunch of new continuity problems instead of keeping them fixed. This is still the peak of the actual X-Men team films followed closely by First Class, though Logan is by far the best of the series, Hugh Jackman is Wolverine and he solidified that in his last(of us) and best outing as the character. Watching DoFP in theaters tho was an amazing fanboy experience.

    I loved this movie and I agree, its by far the best X-Men movie. Personally though, my favourite X-Man movie is still First Class... a movie I feel that is very underrated. It had much more of an emotional core/pull.,, during the scene where Magneto tries to move the satellite, fails, but then succeeds in moving it by remember his mother and crying as he did it, that really struck me emotionally and Future Past lacked that for me. Don't get me wrong, I agree with Chris on DOFP having a emotional core to its story, but it didn't strike me as much as First Class did. But still, great movie, great action. loved the story, great direction...yeah I'd prob give this movie a A+ too!! (sorry kinda rambled on there).
