    As an european agricultural sciences student I find your videos very informative and fun to watch.
    The background music is way too loud and very distracting in this video. Sometimes it is hard to hear what you’re saying.
    I love your honesty and I very much appreciate the insights you give us into Zambian vegetable farming. Thank you for your videos!

      Thanks for the feedback, Bent. I hear you and will try to reduce the background music in future videos.

      Thanks. Glad it's helpful.
      Farming visits are a challenge for us. Our priority is to do farming tasks and programmes. When we have visitors, a lot of our attention has to go to them, which is not positive for our outcomes.
      And you can only imagine how many visit requests we get each week.
      We are working to start having formal Farmers Days like other farms do, when various people can come and see what we do in a structured manner. We will advertise on our channels when we do.

    You are so good at presenting. This is great. I am enjoying some background music. It sounds like Joel Chibangu production. This is encouraging. Next time do a video on your irrigation system. Later on take us to your livestock farming (I am sure you are doing livestock too)

    • @mondofarms4343
      @mondofarms4343  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, we will do a special feature on irrigation one day.
      No, sorry no livestock at our farm. Our strategy is to focus on one thing and get very good at it, rather than try to do too many things.

    Thank you for such a nice video. it would be interesting to carry out a nutrient test of that compost. Its nicely dark and 4 weeks to full decomposition is pretty impressive!

    • @mondofarms4343
      @mondofarms4343  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, Ba Patricia. Just a correction: each batch spends 3-4 weeks in each room, which means it's about 10-12 weeks per batch.
      One day, we will try other composting methods like Bokash, etc that would help us really speed up the process.
      This week, we found ourselves short of ready compost for the onion beds and had to improvise.

    May I ask what happened to Mondo Music? It was very promising.

    • @mondofarms4343
      @mondofarms4343  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mondo Music had it's time and was reasonably successful for a while. Though the definition of "success" is subjective because I never really made any money from it. In fact I lost a hell of a lot of my personal money investing into the music industry.
      I operated it actively from 1999 till about 2012. But then it was time to move on and focus on other business ventures that could bring in money.

    How come you don't have chicken or cattle for manure at your farm

    • @mondofarms4343
      @mondofarms4343  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Our strategy is to focus on certain types of farming and become efficient at them.
      We have chosen to be crop farmers and not get into livestock at all.
      This kind of strategy has guided me in each type of business that I have gone into for the past 30 years.
      Mixed farming has advantages as well as challenges. Some people manage to do it, but I have never wanted to.
      Lack of focus is something I have found to be dangerous.
      Imagine one minute you are working on crop production schedules for the vegetables. Its a spreadsheet that includes seeds/seedlings, fertiliser, pesticides, herbicides, etc.
      Next minute, you receive a call that there is a sickness in the broiler house or the layers are not drinking water. You leave the crop schedule to attend to the emergency.
      Then you get only back to the spreadsheet a couple of days or so later.
      There are enough challenges with crop farming alone, let alone like chaos.

    Hi, Thanks. Any reason why you will "never, ever have chickens on the farm?

    • @mondofarms4343
      @mondofarms4343  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question! In all my businesses, my strategy tends to focus around narrow ares of operation and application of resources. That gives us the best chance of becoming very good and successful at specific things rather than trying to do a a bit of everything. as the old saying goes: "Jack of all trades, master of none".
      With Winterthorn Farm, I have chosen is to develop it as a vegetable farm with timber trees in some of our hilly areas with poor soil that can't support vegetables.
      Hope that helps.

    • @mondofarms4343
      @mondofarms4343  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question!
      To be successful in anything, including , of course, farming, you have to choose a path to follow.
      Our strategy includes growing certain trees and crops. For example, pine and eucalyptus trees and vegetables like onion, pepper, cucumber, and egg plant in rotation with legumes like beans, groundnuts and soya beans.
      But if we divert to animals, fish, etc, we will lose focus while we learn a whole lot of new lessons. In all my businesses, I try to stay focused and become very good at a particular thing.
      I am yet to be convinced that you can become truly, truly successful with mixed farming. Maybe just okay, but not seriously, seriously successful.
