Ambassador Freeman should be running our foreign policy, instead of having to send warnings from the sidelines. A remarkable intellect and clear understanding of the world.

Remarkable analysis; sober clarity regarding the issues of our time; and, obviously too controversial for the highly governed algorithm industrial complex to allow for a broader circulation of this critical understanding...too late, I still had access. I am so grateful for the generosity and courage of Ambassador Freeman and for the institutions which support his perspective.

This is an incredibly astute analysis of the current China/US relationship. This guy knows his stuff - and we would do good as a country to pay attention to his perspective.

He said China isn't interested in crushing democracy abroad. China wants to take Taiwan and supports the military in Pakistan & Burma, Supports the Russian invasion.

@@Andy-PThere are issues with your statement. China has always viewed Taiwan as a domestic issue. Taiwan also viewed it as a domestic issue until it became overly obvious that the government of Taiwan, officially called The Republic Of China, would never retake the Mainland. That's why Taiwan has historically supported the "One China Policy" and chose to include "China" in it's name and left out "Taiwan".
As for Pakistan, China support them but has never interfere with it's internal politics because the goal isn't to take it over, but rather so that it could a thorn towards India, a common enemy/competitor/adversary.
As for Russia, China doesn't want Russia to invade Ukraine, but it would absolutely not allow Russia to lose. The Russian/Ukraine war keeps the US and Russia busy and weekend both. China won't do anything to help NATO. That's why China's "aid" to Russia is limited.
As for Burma, China doesn't want to take it over, if it did, it would take about a week to do it. A little, chaotic country, right next to it has a "snowballs chance in Hell" to resist.

@@DocPetron Taiwan doesn't see it's issues with China as internal. Very much external, That how much of the rest of the western world see's it. One China is lip service to keep the CCP happy. The west doesn't want war so want to keep the Status Quo like the Taiwanese. While "China doesn't want Russia to invade, it doesn't want it to lose". More contradictory words from the CCP. Europe see's Russia as a huge threat and China helps Europe's enemies

Well worth listening. If this interview was pre-Putin's intervention in the Donbass then it would be very relavent. But Putin wants to recreate the Russian Empire and Xi re-shape the world order to make his ambitions easier. Those ambitions include taking over Taiwan and pushing America influence out of the Pacific. This will force all countries in the region to come to terms with. Think China take over of the SCS and the 14 points against Australia which basically said said said no criticism of China allowed while the CCP has a free hand in Australia's domestic political & economic affairs
