This message is powerful because it can be but it doesn't have to be about marriage. It is about respect, boundaries, and consent and those are important for anyone even if they're not religious. These queens are bosses and they're calling the shots!
Yes I think, it’s more about general consent first than anything else, but he still made some nice comparisons which could also be interpreted that way. I guess it’s to the eye of the beholder.
@@hanmira Yup, lots of good songs can interpreted different ways for sure! I was just saying there are nonreligious reasons why people might want to wait until they know and trust someone. It can also be a commentary about women taking ownership over their own bodies.
YEAH I came to the comments to say this. I don't think it was really about waiting until marriage, lol. It's about respecting boundaries and consent, not any sort of religion's ideas about purity.
Yeah it's definitely not about marriage. Waiting for marriage as nothing to do with boundaries. The best part about this cinematic MV, the message that this song is sending was amazing! Such a genius ways to make people listen and watch and get a positive message at the end.. AMAZING WORK MISAMO!❤🔥
MiSaMo are sooooo talented and their visuals are just out of this planet. Their whole project is just pure art. I wish twice as a group could explore more of these different concepts, it would be so great and refreshing.
I LOVE this mv so much, as a Twice stan AND as an art major. Scenes throughout the music video reference/recreate countless famous artworks (or Masterpieces lol). Someone challenged me to break down the references I could find so allow me to share w the class: Firstly I have to shout out Momo’s iconic scene during her rap verse- and my favorite- which was a recreation of the Birth of Venus. Just WOW. The bridge includes pretty straightforward recreations for each of the members, with Mina’s being The Swing, I believe Sana’s is both Klimt’s Woman in Gold and Tree of Life, while Momo’s is Klimt’s portrait of Emilie Flöge. I also found the name of the huge painting in the second verse, and I LOVE the story behind it. It’s an edited version of Botticelli’s Primavera (who also did the Birth of Venus!! They’re sister works!!) which features the Three Graces, who are goddesses of charm, beauty, creativity, nature, and fertility. They often accompany Aphrodite/Venus and their names are Aglaea, Euphrosyne, and Thalia, meaning “radiance”, “joy”, and “abundance” respectfully. Mina and Sana’s opening scenes seem to be referencing specific pieces, La Grand Odalisque and La Donna Velata. I can’t take credit for these finds though (thank you @isaCarpeLucem on Twitter)! Lastly, there are other little details that aren’t direct references but reminded me of works I’ve seen. Mina’s hat with holes was backlit, which created a halo effect that calls back to religious iconography in the Renaissance. Momo‘s costume at beginning of the second verse has a veil that reminded me of The Madonna. I’m sure there’s more that I’ve missed- I know that the segmented backdrop in the last chorus is a Claude Monet but can’t remember which one- but I had fun putting my art history classes to use :)
looks like misamo all wearing transparent dresses was inspired from three graces as well, i read somewhere botticelli achieved that look w mixing egg white w the paint
I love the consent and self control concept, it really tells about the girls' experience with sexualization. No matter how much you love them you can watch them, but you can't touch them.
I love how they are referencing/recreate famous pieces of art. That combined with the lyrics and the creaking wood floor gives the feeling of them being like a beautiful piece of art in a museum - you only watch it and love it but never touch it ❤
Jordan's a bit late on this one but the art/painting/painter references are: ▪The Birth of Venus - Sandro Bottecelli ▪The Starry Night - Vincent Van Gogh ▪Portrait of Emilie Flöge - Gustav Klimt ▪Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer (The Lady In Gold) - Gustav Klimt ▪Primavera - Botticelli (Les trois graces - shown in video) ▪The Swing (The Happy Accidents) - Jean Honore-Fragonard ▪Vertiefte Regung (Deepened Impulse) - Wassily Kadinsky ▪Grande Odalisque - Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres ▪La Velata - Raphael Red Velvet had similar painting themes in their "Feel My Rhythm" MV. ▪Ophelia - John Everett Miley ▪The Swing (The Happy Accidents) - Jean Honore-Fragonard ▪The Woman Holding The Umbrella - Monet ▪Four Seasons - Mucha ▪The Garden of Earthly Delights - Hieronymus Bosch ▪Lady Looking Behind The Wall - Paul Dominque ▪Nymphs Finding The Head of Orpheus - Paul Dominque Fragonard's "The Swing" is conceptualized in both MVs but i think MiSaMo capture the theme slightly better. Also his minor critique of the water on the Bottecelli scene was way off. If you look at the painting , the water is all still and flat, so if anything the waves crashing were out of place. They were added to give the scene motion and action. To add foreground water motion would have been completely out of place.. Also disliked pushing the christian abstinence values into a reaction.. meh.. MiSaMo aren't saying that at all. Also again doesnt mention any member's names...
Love how their MV is inspired by masterpieces, even their album is called that. It is true, it is a masterpiece. The message is soooo good too. It's rare to see the message of consent and respect in pop music, and they did it so well. They're QUEENS.
As an art history major, I'm pretty sure I could write an entire paper on the paintings they chose to portray and their significance to this music video, but also as an art history major, I must get back to my food service job and therefore don't have time.
This whole MV is filled with them recreating REAL PAINTINGS AND THEY DID SO GOOD. To portray themselves as timeless masterpieces such as these with these lyrics and the concept of consensual, non physical love, make their recreations even more beautiful and ICONIC❤❤
This is technically J-pop since its in Japanese and they are the only 3 Japanese members of Twice 🥰 But this message in the song needs to be amplified everywhere especially more in music ❤
@@X0n0DX MISAMO is technically a J-Pop sub-unit cus they consist of 3 Japanese members who released a Japanese album filled with Japanese songs and promoted in Japan. Personally I read the lyrics as being specifically about a developing romantic and sexual relationship, but I think the broader message is one of consent. Even with casual sex, you need to use words first, to make sure you're on the same page, to check the other person is into it too. That's one of the things I love about the track - it's so focused on the idea of mutual desire and consent. And yeah, in no small part because of that, it's such a sexy song!! (Also just a small thing, but saying "he" finally gets to touch her at the end... it doesn't have to be a man! The message of desire and communication applies across all genders

Hey Jordan, really enjoyed this one! I’m actually an Art student and the movement they were referencing during 11:34 is Rococo Art - specifically Fragonard’s “The Swing”. But I get the Impressionism vibe as well, tbf 😂
I looove the painting references in this, instantly recognisable but so creative, from The Birth of Venus, then The Swing, then Klimt... And it actually goes with the theme of the song so well: it's ok to admire their beauty, but don't touch or get possessive. And i think it's a message that is important within the context of both Western morals culture and devoted fan culture.
The part where it looks like impressionism art is reference to actual art. And before people ask I took AP art history last year. I memorized 250 works by title, artist name, time period, what culture it's from, and more. In Mina's part she is in the painting called The Swing by Fragonard. The painting is about a woman cheating but if I were to talk about it; it would take forever. In Sana's part it's not very specific but I believe it's a reference to Gustav Klimt. It could either be The Kiss or Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I. For Momo's part she could be in Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh or Portrait of Emilie Flöge by Klimt. They were friends even before they wound up on the competition show together during the creation of the full group. When one of them lost a round and was booted from the competition, another of the J-Line was about to quit with her. They are so close with each other, their friendship is truly amazing! It's why they get 'shipped so much by some of the more crazy fans.
