This has always been one of my ALL TIME TOP 10 films. There is just something about it that has always resonated with me. I feel like I must revisit it a couple if not a few times each year. Wonderful video as always my friend. This is one of my most cherished Criterions and it was great to hear your take on it.
Thank you so much for your comment here my friend! This is so great. I didn’t know that this was one of your favorite films. Well done and thank you so much!!
Hello Daisuke. I'm a big fan of Amarcord but oh so difficult to put into words. You did a fantastic job explaining and exploring the different scenes that take place and what they mean to the movie. As always, I loved hearing your perspective on this unique film. I'm really enjoying these new single title segments. Hope all is well. 😀❤️👍 Stephanie
Movie Chatter, Stephanie my friend, thank you for the message. This is a great one, and it is so nice to know that you like it so much! Fellini is a great one, and so I would love to hear your takes on other Fellini films in the Criterion Collection very soon! Take care and I hope all is well. (By the way, Halloween is around the corner, and I can't wait to hear your take on the new HALLOWEEN movie when it comes out.)
Oh, I adore Amarcord so much. I saw it on the big screen early last year in a double bill with La Strada. I need to purchase the Criterion blu-ray soon. We still have no UK release of the film. Such an outrage!
OH MY GOSH!!!!! I AM SO JEALOUS!!!!! You saw this in the theatre?! I was lucky enough to watch LA STRADA in the theater early in my life, but I was never lucky enough to see AMARCORD on the big screen. I am surprised that this film has not been released on Masters of Cinema.
Oh gosh! Great timing my friend! I'll try to get the video up this week... and I hope my comments don't disappoint you. By the way, it is a phenomenal film, is it not?! So groundbreaking and honest and takes you on an emotional rollercoaster.
It's such an honest telling of what can happen under negligence towards a child. Jean‑Pierre Léaud was unbelievable in that role. The psychological evaluation scene in particular will stand with me for a while. In one of the special features, they mention how Truffaut said it is the most important scene in the film, but in the same time, the lines were all improvised. I found that part so moving. Very interested to see more Truffaut films. Ordered Shoot the Piano Teacher and Jules and Jim today.
What a great comment! Yes, that scene!!!!! What a powerful one. And yes, there is a terrible thing going on here with the parents and the son.... but what makes it all the more tragic and so human is that the parents are not necessarily evil or all bad people. They are bad parents, yes, but they still show glimpses of loving their boy, which makes the situation very painful. It is an astounding film.
I have to admit I had a hard time following this film on what it means certain point I felt I had a grasp but at other moments in a scene I would be left confused.I will watch again this weekend I did enjoy the film,Wonderful job dissecting scenes in the film was very helpful.

Yes! 400 Blows next. Just watched that one a couple days back and it blew me away. Interested to hear someone else talk about it.
