Create A Clipping Mask with Affinity Designer

  • Clipping masks add versatility to your vector design work, and for a variety of reasons. They allow you to fill an object with a photo, and they also allow you to make unique shapes in a non-destructive way. Upon first sight, it may appear that Affinity Designer lacks the ability to create clipping masks (also known as clipping paths,) but it doesn't. In this tutorial I'll be demonstrating how you can make a clipping mask with Affinity Designer using just a single click.

    Thanks for making that simple. Until now I had no idea that shapes could be added to a clipping mask like that. One great "simplification" at a time is great for me.

    A slight clarification (it's not apparent in the video), when you drag the image up a layer into the shape, make sure to move it to the right as well, like an indent.

    I just had so much to laugh about😂 Starting of with the way of text-spacing and the clicking of your keyboard😂 Probably a early ‘90s one?

    Hello, i am having trouble with getting the clipping mask. Everything i move the image into the text layer the image visability is zero and i cant see it displayed like in your video. Any help will be appreciated.

    • @chomspody123
      @chomspody123 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i figured out what was wrong. In your video you dragged the image layer into the text. However that doesn't work. It worked when i dragged the text layer into the image layer .

    so neat! i wish photoshop could do this, or it can and I don't know how lol

    • @KuttyJoe
      @KuttyJoe 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Photoshop definitely can. Photoshop basically can do like, everything you can think of. You place the mask layer above the object/layer to be masked, then you place your cursor right between the two layers, hold the alt key and click. Instant masked object. Photoshop also has a button at the bottom of the layer panel for masking. Photoshop has multiple ways of masking.

    The video is great. But you don’t have to destroy the text. Just put all clipping mask objects in a group.

      I find it much easier and much faster to mask in Illustrator actually. Having to deal with layers and tediously dragging one object under another is slow. It's not horrible but in Illustrator you just select two objects and hit a keyboard shortcut. Its hard to get faster than that other than using some automation.

    Gosh, I really wanted to learn this but it was way over my head. I'm so disappointed. I'm new to masking and I need to fill a hand drawn shape with a pattern. I was trying to follow you but once you start using the shortcut key without further explanation, I just couldn't keep up. Would love to know how the clipping mask works and where the menu "buttons" are so that I can learn what they mean. Then I can skip ahead to using shortcuts. 🥹
