- BAIC introduced the Beijing X55 in 2022 as a medium-sized SUV with an excellent price tag. But, what are you actually getting for your money and is this new vehicle a quality product or is it just flashy on the outside with little substance?
We sent renowned presenter and CarsAwards judge Jacob Moshokoa to review the newcomer. He reviews the powertrain, rear seats, boot and what sort of specification the X55 has. Is this a good family car and what other rivals should you be considering?

First time seeing this guy, don't know him but what a review, no unnecessary awkward situations trying to be funny like most of the car journalists, straight to the point and he highlighted important things. One of the best car reviews I've seen in a while in SA, hope to see more of him🎉

For the Boot you have to go to the settings of the car to Maximise to 100 so it goes all the way up 7:22

About time, thanks for printing my name on the car, I appreciate it. The hazard button is by the rear view mirror. To help potential purchasers, some points to note.
The boot lid opening height can be adjusted in the infotainment system.
The seats are real leather and are really comfortable.
It has a phone screen sharing software called CarbitLink which is adequate.
It has roughly 30% more power than the Chery tiggo 4 and 7, and jolion.
I have owned the car since launch, taken it off road as well, it's a solid good car. Best car in it's segment.

6:47 well the hazard lights button are actually located in the ceiling of the car😅 by the way my big sister bought this car last month and i can say it is a really good looking car and the features in are actually really easy to use 10/10 in my opinion 👀✨💕😁

Welcome to the reviewer, first time I've seen him. I'm still a skeptic when it comes to Chinese cars, but great review nonetheless - looks like he actually enjoys what he does. Some reviewers have this persona of being too bothered to enjoy it. Breath of fresh air honestly. Cars are fun, reviewers should look like they are having fun.

I’ve had this car for over four months now and have done 5000km on it so far. Not only does it turn heads but is very fun and comfortable to drive. I love minimalistic infotainment and climate controls and find it rather easy to use. It might not have android auto but it has Car bit link screen software which makes connecting via Apple and Android phones a breeze.

@@polar3553 If you compare this car is similar cars available in China this is definitely not the best but for the South African market with so few options to choose from this in my opinion is the best value for money.

@@polar3553 This car is really fast and it feels very solid with almost no engine or wind noise. I think it is probably faster then 80% of the cars on South African roads. The 130kw and 305Nn of torque is almost as fast as the latest Tiguan R line which has 162kw and 350Nm but the big difference is that Tiguan R line costs double the price of the Beijing X55.

I think the boot open height is restricted like you can do in any car. Open it to the fullest, keep the button on the boot until you hear a beep and that will be the new height set now. It's to cater for people with different ceiling heights where they live. All cars with an electric tailgate I have seen does this. Did you try it? Doesn't look like it.

well done bro! i've been looking for a good review on the x55 as i'm trading in for either this or the Jolion or tiggo 7
I had the same dilemma, I had a punchy ,125kw bmw 1series, I test drove the tiggo 4 and 7, both lacked gumption, jolion I tried test driving but the dealership basically blew me off which says something about the customer service, the jolion is the ugliest one of the them anyway. I test drove this car on a whim and was impressed by the drive, it felt like my bmw, and was punchy. If you like tech, and toys, if you like looks, performance and comfort, get the BAIC.
