did those tai chi guys just come to xu's gym without any appointment? if this sparring was arranged days ago they should talked about the rules already but they seems unclear about the rules and the judge is doing nothing
Xu is a great showman, hilarious. Taiji guy did ok considering he is out of shape and older. He tried and i respect that. Unfortunately the constant presure made him tense up thus loosing his song and root. This is a good example of why taiji needs to constantly presure test like it did 120 years ago. Its easy to gain song and root in your taiji class if you practice but it is totally different trying to do it under constant attack from an opponent with different skills/style. Only when you have mastered this can you really be able to start taijiquan boxing, until then you are really just learning taiji and are not ready to fight. I think taiji people that seriously want to fight should regularly visit or join bjj, muay thai and mma schools to experience their skill set , learn and test their own skill seeing what they can pull off. This gives them a better understanding of their art and at what level they really are. This is what some of the taiji guys i trained with in thailand did regularly. It also built great freindship and respect amongst the instructors and students of the different styles.
I think Tai Chi guy did surprisingly well against a much younger and much fitter opponent. Didn't look look like a bullshido woo-woo practitioner, was simply outmatched and the young guy was pretty aggressive, whereas it was clear that the Tai Chi guy looking for gentlemanly sparring. He had stance stability, he moved well. If anything it gives me renewed respect for Tai Chi - I mean, you got calisthenics for general health that lets you hang in there with a trained MMA fighter? Hell, I'm all for it!
Former wrestler here. You could tell he had position for some throws and wasn't using them. It's why he elected for a simple push when he was on the side and was under the other guy's center of gravity. As the taller guy, it's all about the sprawl and the arm drag. Once in a while you can throw a guy either in a bodylock (suplex) or head & arm, but 90% of stuff I did was keeping the other guy away by sprawling or defending / trying get the head or arm. Of course, I knew the single-leg, double-leg, & fireman's, but catching someone shorter who's the same weight class in them is tough. I did TKD in college; fun and you learn some neat stuff but it's all about points. I got attacked on the street and I wrestled. I've always been interested in martial arts from when I was a kid; took a class called "basic martial arts" which was mostly judo before I wrestled in HS. Friend of mine showed me some mu thai; I put it together some with other stuff I picked up. Tried kung fu, but, aside from the weapons training, the most effective part was sparring. Sifu's demonstrating some complicated thing and I automatically turn my elbow and he says "you've had training". Well, yeah...a lot of TMA's are pretty techniques that work against people who know absolutely nothing, and nobody else... I think I want to see what BJJ is all about, but I'm closer to 50 than 40 now.
No punching, kicking, no touching knees to ground, and no single-leg or double-leg takedowns. So basically the Tai Chi guy wanted to do "two strangers hugging."
The problem with Push Hands is that when doing it, there's a lot of instances where you let up on pressure follow specific rules of the "sport." You're not allowed to use excessive force. In a scenario where you have to use it in self defense, I doubt you're brain is gonna switch from passive to aggressive just like that.. It has great concepts that can be "APPLIED" in actual combat, but that's exactly what MMA stands for. Taking what works and making it your own. I hope the Chinese community understands this. This was a message that Bruce Lee tried to teach the world.. I've tried it out myself and I understand that there are tons of rules and restrictions. The most apparent being no touching of the lower body. In short.. IT'S A SPORT!! Also, in this moment 6:36 you can tell he's proud of his guys. When your coach or master backs you up, it's always a very great feeling. I really hope that kid who sparred doesn't get barraged by hate.
Xu xiadong is literally what all those frauds are pretending to be, a fight school master like from those old kung fu movies. Like in real life. Wise, charismatic, dedicated, and just worth endless film scripts in drama.
how is he wise? where's his inner peace? he's a combat sports jockstrap, not a master. Nor will he ever spar with a real master -- such as the ones at the Shoalin Temple -- because he would lose.
@@metesmith8240 Not Xei Wei, who studied at the Shaolin Temple for 4 years (he is not a Shaolin priest). He's been cleaning up in MMA, look him up. He definitely proves that Kung Fu is not bullshido. XXD is just a bully, he doesn't spar people who would win. Just remember two people sparring doesn't prove anything about any style. It proves one individual was better than another individual at that time. By that logic, if you ever lose a match in Red Neck Fu, it means you should stop practicing Red Neck Fu (bjj).
He's a thug who does nothing but beats down defenseless old men. I understand he was exposing fake martial arts, more power to that. But there are other ways to do it. He's nothing but a bully who deserved everything the Chinese Government gave him.
One major reason why the Tai Chi guy lost was simply his lack of conditioning and physical attributes. A lot of people downplay the importance of that, but it's super important. There's a reason why physical conditioning is so important for fighters. It makes a huge difference even if you're less skilled than your opponent. Seriously why are there so many fat martial arts guys out there?
It seems to be a running theme. I'm rather confused as to why so many practitioners in China think that they can fight when they are horribly out of shape and appear to have never even sparred before.
@@valerierodger7700 Some of that may have to do with the Chinese cultural revolution. In the old days martial arts training was of course taken seriously and trained hard. Physical conditioning, full contact training was an important part of it. Then when the cultural revolution hit and China wanted to get rid of all the old ways, a ton of martial arts practitioners left China and taught in other countries. The people in China now who train so-called traditional martial arts are actually training watered down crap with no direct lineage to the old systems. Essentially these guys are hobbyists and bullshitters passing themselves off as masters This is one reason why most of the legit people who can actually fight live in other countries. The real masters left a long time ago. I'm in Canada and I was taught traditionally with heavy emphasis on body conditioning and full contact training as well. We also believe in evolving the arts as well whereas so many of these bullshit masters are stuck on stagnation without growth. The only people in China who can fight are Sanda fighters. And contrary to popular opinion, they actually are much closer to the traditional martial arts than all these idiots in their silk pajamas posing as masters. Using logic, adapting to your environment, growing, hard training, and adding what is uniquely you. THIS is real Kung Fu! Anything else is shit
There is hardly any "traditional schools", just a bunch of fat asses trying to make money off "martial arts". Just like soccer, no one cares about sports that doesn't generate money, but as soon as they do, they become ways to launder money
This is like in the old-school kung fu movies where the rival master pulls down the sign outside the school and breaks it on the floor ;-) Traditional vs modern MA is really a thing here. I was brought up in martial arts in the 80's and early 90's, the era of ninjas giving way to mixed martial arts and the advent of wider knowledge of grappling. To see this level of anger and vehemence in these TMA vs MMA bouts really brings me back to my first wake-up moments.
I fucking love Xu Xiaodong! I don’t blame him for getting pissed considering how childish and pathetic these Tai Chi guys are. They basically don’t want any technique they’re unfamiliar with being used, like what do they think fighting is?? Ridiculous.
Godammmit, Xiaodong, GODDUMMIT The Taichi guy can be good or decent if he wants to do these Hardcore Catch/Pro Wrestling Stamina Complaining and quiting about a Knee on belly? lol?
Tai Chi, Xing-i, Ba Gua all have value if you actually cross train in other martial arts and learn to spar. I believe innovators like Bruce Lee probably were into some of the more esoteric practices of chi kung and meditation, and could be partly why he was so freakishly strong and fast.
yoga isn't even a fighting style, its more of a conditioning for the body, good to improve your flexibility. taichi on the other hand is just a dance. not sure if it is a real fighting style in ancient times, but in the modern day, it is a slow dance for old people
I know Tai Chi guy is just making excuses. But, why is Xu's student so aggressive? He doesn't have to be. He already knew he could defeat Tai Chi guy. He definitely needs control. Damn!!
The tai chi guy looks as old as me = 50+ but the mma dude look under 30 hmmm..... once again this dude picks on a old yoga teacher n beats them up... so what i say is ... pick on someone u own age n someone who has been trained 2 really kick ass.. not a aerobics coach....
To be honest, the tai chi guy was not as terrible as I've come to expect. For sure he was weaker (I mean just look at this stomach) but it was not that bad. He has at least some grappling skills.

*Xu brings dignity to the sport, and to the art of fighting. His style, and attitude is one of today's ultimate litmus tests for warriors, and wannabes.*
Honestly, the tai chi guy did better than I thought he would. Had he done more sparring with wrestlers, some of his ideas may have worked (or at the very least he’d be ready for the wrestler’s counters and follow ups). He still got his ass handed to him and complained incessantly l, though.
Funnily enough , When I watch these Xu Xiaodong videos, It's like I'm watching a kung fu film, Except he has the real skills to back it up! The way he shouts at anyone to challenge him is great! He also reminds me of those Chinese generals rallying their troops in historic films!
I think the reason the guy didn't want to fight was because of the innocent knee on belly that hurt his lunch box. Realizing if that hurt, that a real punch would end him.
To be fair that knee was intentionally a strike and not used to grapple, that leg take downs are totally legit, and if the tai chi guy actually had conditioning it may have been different.

How can you save face when your face is beat up.
Scott Imo it happens all the time. But, it requires the cooperation of people around you. They’ll pretend that something didn’t happen, or it was am accident, or a misunderstanding of the rules. They’ll say anything. It’s really weird but this shit happens in many Asian countries.
Well Xu is awesome, more people need to be like him.
It's like a child changing the rules lmao

Tai chi guy:
"Hey! He's not allowed to do knee on chest... or single-leg takedowns... or anything else that makes it harder for me and my 'bigger belly chi power' to win at this match! But I am definitely allowed to complain and make excuses nonstop!"
yeah, I thought I was clear, there is absolutely no wrestling allowed in my wrestling matches
Which is stupid, because Tai Chi HAS Knee on stomach/rib types of controls and finishes.

Xu is a great showman,hilarious.
External to internal. Internal to external.
where is the tai qi?? seriously, loving Xu Xiaodong's flair for the dramatic. someone should hire him to be in movies (or WWE as the OP says).

@@FightCommentary lol!
Xu cutting a vicious promo!
The MMA guy obviously didn’t do any damage with that knee on belly move. He was just making a point.
Tai Chi guys are just cry babies, like Xu said to them,if you are too scare to fight just leave
That Khabib shirt foreshadowed so much lmao
No punching, kicking, no touching knees to ground, and no single-leg or double-leg takedowns. So basically the Tai Chi guy wanted to do "two strangers hugging."
The moment I need the rules to somehow save me is the moment I realize that I am the weaker fighter
Xu Xiaodong shouting reminded me of the Dynasty Wars type chinese films, the badass General rallying the troops 🤣
When the Tai Chi clowns couldn't hamstring them with added rules they just hung on to the "oooohhhh knee on belly" excuse.
That "anti-Japanese Kung Fu movie" comment cracked me up. Too true.
The rule the MMA guy broke was exercising and training in a better style before the fight.
Whoever is the guy commentating, I'm laughing so hard. You are doing really good commentary on the fight. Keep it up!
Enough of Xu Xiaodong's tantrum? I want more!
does he make you wet when he screams?
Xu xiadong is literally what all those frauds are pretending to be, a fight school master like from those old kung fu movies. Like in real life. Wise, charismatic, dedicated, and just worth endless film scripts in drama.
how is he wise? where's his inner peace? he's a combat sports jockstrap, not a master. Nor will he ever spar with a real master -- such as the ones at the Shoalin Temple -- because he would lose.
@@neutrino78x bro He World steamrole any kunfu praktikant

Just remember two people sparring doesn't prove anything about any style. It proves one individual was better than another individual at that time. By that logic, if you ever lose a match in Red Neck Fu, it means you should stop practicing Red Neck Fu (bjj).
He's a thug who does nothing but beats down defenseless old men. I understand he was exposing fake martial arts, more power to that. But there are other ways to do it. He's nothing but a bully who deserved everything the Chinese Government gave him.

I swear to god Xu Xiao Dong almost went super saiyan..
Essentially these guys are hobbyists and bullshitters passing themselves off as masters
This is one reason why most of the legit people who can actually fight live in other countries.
The traditional schools should realize that this is a learning opportunity, not get all butt hurt and make excuses.
There is hardly any "traditional schools", just a bunch of fat asses trying to make money off "martial arts". Just like soccer, no one cares about sports that doesn't generate money, but as soon as they do, they become ways to launder money
-good work on your commentary man, keep up the awesome work 💪
im sure during old chinese times, there were alot of rules on the battlefield hmm?
This guy is single handedly moving Chinese martial arts in the 21st century
This is like in the old-school kung fu movies where the rival master pulls down the sign outside the school and breaks it on the floor ;-) Traditional vs modern MA is really a thing here. I was brought up in martial arts in the 80's and early 90's, the era of ninjas giving way to mixed martial arts and the advent of wider knowledge of grappling. To see this level of anger and vehemence in these TMA vs MMA bouts really brings me back to my first wake-up moments.
Love your commentary!

Tai chi = worse yoga. Change my mind
Why should we, when we all agree
Yoga is just better, it also doesn't try to pass itself as a martial arts.
Random GuitarGuy lmaoooo I didn’t think abt that
Tai Chi, Xing-i, Ba Gua all have value if you actually cross train in other martial arts and learn to spar.

Honestly, the tai chi guy did better than I thought he would. Had he done more sparring with wrestlers, some of his ideas may have worked (or at the very least he’d be ready for the wrestler’s counters and follow ups). He still got his ass handed to him and complained incessantly l, though.
The Tai Chi guy did pretty well. If he is standing like that with only Tai Chi training, then it is impressive.

So how did the sticky hands technique work out for you Tai Chi dude?
