Same! Our host really feeds our need for historical crime. The new stuff is far to easy to grab some video from (say Florida) and just post it with a bit of dialogue and a ... "is now serving ... " at the end. Lazy.

To be seen walking down the street with Alice then to say he just came across her dead body, the insanity plea should be for the those believing him. Poor poor Alice. I dread to think of her last moments. Her poor family too.

It was horrible what Gilbert did to Alice, just horrible. I always feel a deep sense of empathy for the parent or guardian left in charge of one who was abducted and later killed. The awful guilt they must feel for the rest of their lives for not having seen, not having been vigilant enough. I can't imagine it. On a completely different subject, I never knew the Boston underground rail system dated so far back. I went to read about it and learned it's considered the oldest in North America. Thank you Brief Case for bringing us this thoroughly researched and beautifully scripted story.

I'm so glad to have found this channel. It's too bad we don't have swift justice today. I understand mistakes are sometimes made, but in cases where there is no doubt given the advances of forensic evidence, fast justice might just deter some crime. By the time they get around to proceeding with the death penalty today the crime is often forgotten by the public and it's whatever remaining family that exists who can feel some vindication for their loved ones. Thank you, Brief Case, for researching and presenting these cases in such and excellent manner.

The crime happened on April 10, 1895.
He was arrested on April 14, 1895.
    Found guilty after a 4 day trial on June 28th 1895 .
    Executed on February 21st 1896.
*Not even 1 year between the crime and the execution.*
Today, it would take 4 to 5 years for a guy like this to get a trial date, and if found guilty, it would take 15 to 20 years for an execution date.

For anyone who thinks that the late 1800s were a safe time for kids to run around and they never got kidnapped, sexually abused and killed, this video shows otherwise. And it's pretty obvious that this guy did it, despite his claims of innocence and a previously good record in the community. This guy knew Alice's family, and since she probably at least knew who he was, he probably had no problem convincing her to come on a walk with him when he saw her playing outside of her father's shop. He then took her to a place where he could have his way with her, where he was unlikely to be discovered, and after he had done his dirty deed, could bury her with no one seeing it. This was not an act of insanity, but deliberate. Just a heartbreaking story all around. At least this little one is safe with Jesus now!

How tragic ..I get such undeniable satisfaction when the verdict is given ...what amazes me is the ability and determination of the police of this era to solve these crimes with little or no forensic knowledge and often to travel across country to question people who have moved vast distances... People were I think more observant back then and noticed their surroundings often helping to solve cases ...i n comparison to modern times where daily life has engulfed us

Totally agree. It's amazing how the investigators in these older cases could figure out who was giving them accurate information.

These are, indeed, all tragic cases...
But, these stories also fascinate, within the context of the times in which they were committed!
Each story has such power, to transport us back through time!
Excellent work on these, each and every case!!!

Hello BC hope you are well. So sad that little Alice was snatched in a split second, never should have been left outside alone. I am so sad when kids are victimized, they are so innocent and lured away very easily. Evil man would not accept his deed even at the gallows. RIP Alice. Have a good week BC till next Monday and another case. Elizabeth
