I think it’s also important to mention that there is another stream into getting the LLB. BA Law, BCom Law which gets you accreditation and lessens your year of study to 2 years. I did a Bcom Law into the LLB which resulted into a Bcom LLB qualification in the end(2 degrees).

Articles are practical training before you become a fully fledged Attorney. So it's like an internship for Lawyers. Its very important that you do it if you want to become an Attorney. It's a requirement, so you can't become an attorney without doing your articles.

Funny enough I never did any vac work. But I know a few of my friends did and they would apply online (this is the bestway at big law firms) because you will find that they don't even have the time to attend to you one on one. When it comes to very small law firms I'd suggest you actually go there and ask for or put in your CV. You will find that the small law form don't also have the online option.

If you wanted to be a lawyer you should have applied for LLB straight, you not a lawyer with any other degree besides LLB. But they may lead you to becoming a lawyer, it will just take you longer, you will have to switch to LLB at some point
BA/BCom law is the best to do first ... once you have finished you would have majored in law as well as another major once you have completed your BA/BCom law you will apply for the 2 Year LLB stream .... so in total you will get 2 degrees in 5 years where as if you just did a straight LLB it would have taken you 4 years ...so in my opinion you rather do a BA or BCom law degree first for that 1extra year you gain soo much knowledge in another discipline........... Just to keep in mind you MUST have an LLB to practice law in SA so you can’t just do a BA law or BCom law degree and then practice
There are no majors in LLB. You get taught all of the law. There also isint anything called 'so called commercial law' but you can do BCom Law if you don't want to be a lawyer specifically but want to be the gatekeeper of companies and their regulations
It depends what you mean commercial lawyer. Someone who works in a corporate law firm or someone who deals with compliance, tax related issues, risk manager, then you can do BCom (but you need an LLB to be called a lawyer, and doing BCom doesn't make you a lawyer)

I've only heard of people perusing a LLB to apply, but you can always try.
What are the main aspects do most law firm consider when one apply for articles?
It's usually your academic record to be honest.
Because that's all they have to 'judge' you on because you will most probably have no work experience. Unless you do vac work throughout your degree
