  • In this video you will get to watch a year worth of progress in making a one of a kind Velomobile body from scratch.
The basic process to produce this body is just like building a Cedar Strip canoe.
I started off by drawing the shape of the Velomobile on paper. I then built modeled the body 3 Dimensionally in a program called Autodesk Maya. Once the body had been modeled to scale in the computer I could then isolate Individual curves/Cross sections and print them full size.
These curves were then printed with a large scale printer, traced onto garage door insulation foam and cut out with a jigsaw. I chose a jigsaw because it doesn't make toxic fumes, it is quick and extremely efficient, and the blades don't dull out cutting foam.
The cross sections were then laid on top of the full scale drawings and glued to one another usi

Awesome choice and great idea. Can't wait to see the next steps. Yeah the process is like building a canoe but also like building an aircraft... may open new ways for DIY builders!

This is so dope. These are very expensive but I'm sure if I put effort in, I could make one, too. And it took you only 9 minutes to make!

Wow! You put a lot of work into that. It shows very well, how much work developers put into velomobiles when building them. I hope you will be able to finish that project and that we´ll see some more results. And of course, you will not be tipped over by sidewinds. ;)

What kind of specific garage door insulation foams did you use? I don't live in the USA and in many cases, we have other product names.
