I was in York yesterday. Didn't get a chance to hear the 12 bells ringing but, I did hear the midday chimes. I can't imagine what these must sound like in person!
Without a doubt to me at least the most beautiful peal of English change ringing bells in the world. No doubt he tower and surroundings adds to them, there is warmth, depth and yet a mellowness about them? I could lay in the ringing room and listen to a while peal being rung, it is very calming and tranquil.
@@FrancescoBellringer A very good point, I guess if you a non ringer then you would say it sounded wonderful. However as a ringer and one who makes no claims to being brilliant it does make you cringe when its poorly struck. The exception would be Liverpool Cathedral which would have to have the worst acoustics ever Im sad to say. Not even the Birmingham band could do those bells justice. It would cost bucket loads of cash to get the accoustic s fixed up in a belfry that big. Having said that it would be nice to have the moneyto do it so they could be heard.
steven rowe Yeah I agree. At Liverpool you probably (i haven’t rung there yet) can’t hear your bells well at all. Therefore striking well would be very difficult. York ringers seen very good
They are ringing 12 so they aren't going to use a flat 6. The flat 6 is used to ring bells 2 to 9 but replace the normal 6 with a flat 6 Actually there are 14 bells so they can not only ring a light 8 based on the 9th being the tenor but also a front 10 which uses the reble of the 12 plus a sharp treble which is a whole to robe but the existing treble. The light 8 or 12 is however still a decent weight as the 9th is 24cwt

As long as the striking is good 😂 It wouldn’t be relaxing if it was poorly struck

steven rowe have you rung here are st Andrews heavier or lighter than York I think your sound nicer than st Andrews
They are lovely the best sounding bells have you rung here and have you met Richard Davis the ringing master in howden Minster
are they using 13 bells beacause i see the 6b being used
They are ringing 12 so they aren't going to use a flat 6.

Ohhhh think they swapped round the red sally for the normal 6 for some funny reason
I wonder why the used the 6 flat bell instead of the ring of 12 6 bell it doesn’t sound to different like this.
So I'm not saying it's the flat 6 it's still the normal 6 being rung
I know but how did they swap the Sallie’s around.
A bit dodgy
