    The move from MIST to MISTer seemed to come fast and FPGA gaming is getting so popular can't wait for the next new thing. Even though I am being told to expect that 2025-26 so a while out. If it adds Xbox like the plan from youtuber RTL Engineering they should call it Mr. X.

    This is AWESOME!
    One thing that I found kind of un-intuitive, though, is that you click on "View Raw" on the GitHub instead of a much more straightforward "download this core" link. I wonder how many people search around on that page wondering where the download button is? LOL.
    Anyway, the cool thing about these cores is that they are fairly regularly updated and improved, and the result is not an emulation of that system but a *simulation* of that system, with NO control latency like in some software based emulations. And this is especially noticeable in the area of sound reproduction: Many (most, I would say) software emulations just have a very hard time with getting this part right, but as long as the FPGA reproduction is accurate, the sound will be spot on.

    Very Cool. Could not get this puppy to display on the VGA Monitor I have but I had a J5 VGA to HDMI converter cable I used to get it to display on an HDMI TV. I really wish there was a simple sheet of paper to help get you started. Fortunately the vender I purchased my MIST from had links on their website to get me started which is how I ended up here. The basic info on getting a C64 setup helped me prove my MIST was indeed functional. My interests however lie with the Amiga but I also have an interest in other retro computers and through emulation you can try things out before committing the implementation onto real hardware. So this is where I think the MIST will come in handy.

    Great vid on the MiST. I have the FPGA arcade which I love I think there are more cores for the MiST I also like the fact that the MiST can use wireless keyboard and mouse. The FPGA arcade I think will support this once the daughter board is released which I am looking forward too. Thanks for your video Phil look forward too more videos.

    Is there any way to emulate a modem so we can hit some sweet bulletin boards with this?

    This thing would not have a problem being displayed on a TV would it? Even an American one?

    Do you know if the vga output can also do composite or svideo output ? I have a commodore monitor I want to use @ 15kHz svideo.

      There was mention of RGB (Scart) as an option in the documentation, but I don't have such a screen, so couldn't test it.

    Would've been nice to see a comparison with an emulator to see the actual difference.

    • @philscomputerlab
      @philscomputerlab  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Check out my other Mist videos testing out the cores. Compare this to the emulator you are using, it depends too much on the settings and computer used to ever have a fair comparison.

    If I understand it correctly the firmware is from the MIST itself. (like for example the OSD menu and the I/O (conversion)) while the C64 firmware (ROM) sits in the core itself??

      +qqryqq123 It's an Asus 19" 5:4 monitor. I don't have the model number at hand at the moment.

    Phil, do you know if i's possible to use MIst with Oberon project ?

    • @philscomputerlab
      @philscomputerlab  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry I'm not familiar with that project.

    • @dakkanTM

      Well looking at the schematics the MIST is essentially two parts where a dedicated ARM controller (which runs the firmware) is used to program the FPGA (the core) then the controller backs off and become an IO handler (it probably does do other things) while the FPGA takes over as the general computer including emulated CPU with the other chipsets and there is also a dedicated 4MB ram chip. I reckon you could probably write an oberon compatible core although I couldn't quite see what CPU they expected the project to run on.

    I have heard about this thing. Its such an.. . 'I have no words' to describe this while I wipe the drool of my face. I mean If it can 'simulate' an Amiga, I assume it can do ANYTHING before it.
    PS. Dont touch the L in Arkanoid... And I just had to train the dictionary for that word, Arkanoid.
