"Love" how black Kerrigan (SC) turned into white one (SC2)...but, as zerg, she turned green anyway, so screw it... (And yellow/golden, as xel naga...so screw it twice...)
Recently bought all of Starcraft 2 and I'm planning to play it when i realized i've forgotten a ton of what happened in Starcraft and Brood War. So I hop onto youtube not only to find short lore videos, but this amazing recollection of everything in the game. Thank you so much for making this! Might have been years ago, but it's still very much appreciated.
Can we appreciate Mengsk's voice actor? He starts so calm, friendly, /humane/. When he needs something, he luls you with his demeanor and straight facts, just "we all obviously want to do this" Whenever someone would oppose, he instantly shuts them, but also explains why "it must be done". Once the jig is up, he knows there's 1% chance you'd keep working with him, but he tries with his grand entrance. When Jim shuts him, he sounds angry. Listen. He's not angry. He now knows there is no chance for continued alliance, so he switches on a dime and makes himself a threat: "I am busy becoming Emperor, so you two worms better make sure that once I'm done, I don't even remember you ever existed.
Thank you so much. The feels... I remember attending my first classes, then I would go back home and play Starcraft Campaign all night long with Meshuggah at full blast in my headphones (only played offline actually, because I didn't even have broadband yet). Those were times dewd.
47:48 That cinematic is still so freaking amazing to this day. My mind was blown when I saw it as a kid the first time. Putting all of this together must have taken you a great deal of time, it's very well done, thanks for all the efforts you've put into this.
So many years later and with Legacy of the Void behind me it is certanly chilling to listen to the Overminds last speech, hearing him talking about the Hybrid and the oncoming darkness. As well as it sort off surprised me, that Artanis is the executor we ones played.
The same here. Also when he says after Kerrigan hatches: What I wrought this day will be the undoing of my enemies. In the end, after the SC2 Zerg storyline I really was sympathetic with the Overmind and it's struggle to free the Zerg from the Dark One's influence.
The good old days when making a great game was about how fun it was instead of hiring a team of psychologists to figure out how to make a "game" addictive these days
Man, something I realized about starcraft that made the already cool story feel great is that the 'player character' was a real entity that commanded the forces. Magistrate, Captain, Executor, and Cerebrate. You feel involved in the story and briefings. I haven't played it for a long time, but Warcraft 3 felt entirely focused on the hero units and no acknowledgment was given to the player.
As a fan of Starcraft since it came out i have to say the story and characters were much better done in the original game than in SC2. Even some of these old cinematics are better than the new thing. They were very creepy and reminicent of dire sci-fi movies while the new cinematics are just pew-pew action flicks with no substance. I love how you blended the cutscene of Kerrigan with the cinematic of her getting captured. Well done sir! Thank you for making this movie based on the story of SC. Many people didn;t even know what a good story the game had.
The story's too dense to be a movie. It'd have to be a series at least. It may be a possibility with the success of Castlevania, and the hype for Witcher.
Thanks for this! It's super helpful to get into Starcraft's lore when one does not have the time to go through the first game (been making my way through the second and am loving it!).
You know, assuming Mensk didn't betray Kerrigan and sent down reinforcements and retrieval, he still wouldn't have made it lol. Kerrigan was pretty much overtaken a min or two after that convo ended.
Thank you for bringing back great memories. It took some effort on your part, and it's been 7 years since this video came out and 26 years when I first opened that CD game! Anyone else watching in 2023?
Ur a Legend Jakatak. This is exactly what I wanted to get into the Starcraft story. I started playing Mass Recall but it's way better seeing the original portraits, and hearing the original voices... and seeing the original artwork. Ur a trooper.
It was entertaining enough, but I wouldn't say the story was phenomenal. A lot of it comes off as a sci-fi version of their Warcraft storylines. Heck, the whole dark and light theme of the Protoss is literally just Starcraft's version of Warcraft's Eredar. Which obviously (probably) came second, but still, it shows how lacking Blizzard's writing staff has been for some time. At one point I expected Kerrigan to betray the Overmind and start her own rebel faction, which would make her zombie-alien Sylvanas. They swerved around that, but barely. The parallels are still there. And the gameplay doesn't feel like it's aged very well. Which is why I'm watching this rather than playing it despite it being free now. The second game feels alright, but even Halo Wars felt like it did more interesting things and Warcraft 3 is more entertaining to play. But maybe part of that is my preference for fantasy or sci-fi. And I don't care much for gritty stories, in sci-fi OR fantasy. Fallout and Dragon Age will always be well below my preference of other, lighter titles.
Wow... this was all I did during high school. I LOVE THIS GAME and I LOVE THIS COMPILATION. So many memories. It's amazing how I could anticipate the dialogue. I don't want it to ever end...
17 years, 1 new title, and a total of 3 expansion packs worth of stories later, and Tassadar sacrificing himself to destroy the Overmind is STILL the greatest moment in the history of the franchise. Its never been topped, and now that Legacy of the Void ended the saga, it looks like it probably never will be.
+Snakie It's amazing, isn't it? I still see the original Starcraft Battle Chest for sale in EB Games... Think about that! What other video game ever, regardless of platform, is still on sale 17 years after its original release? More to the point, what other game is still being played online after that length of time? While Starcraft II is still a great game, the original was an inimitable masterpiece, surely the greatest game ever invented.
+Snakie Ha, never mind Tassadar's sacrifice, they couldn't even top Arcturas Mengsks' coronation speech, Gerard DuGalle's welcoming speech to the UED, pretty much every Overmind speech, Fenix talking tactics, the threats and counter threats between Edmund Duke and Tassadar (which is missing in this video) and Kerrigan and Zeratul, when they all first meet; and my personal favourite dialogue between Aldaris and Zeratul when they ambush each other during Tassadar's rescue. In short, StarCraft 2 was tragically shit.
Bumble Douche In the strategy realm Age of Empires 2 has proven to have a similar shelf life. It isn't sold on shelves anymore, but it has a very active steam community and they still make expansions for it. But yeah, Starcraft is amazing.

Cat Caywood Well, to be fair, the Muppets version was actually "Pigs in spaaaaaaaace..." I'm just showing my age, hoping you young whippersnappers would get the reference lol
+Cat Caywood The first ships that came to the koprulu sector was actually prison ships and when the ships crashed they colonized the planet. So the game is actually saying that the southerners were criminals sent away from earth :P

@@malhekuba7473 Great game. Still, nowhere near Starcraft Broodwar. Starcraft Broodwar has been the greatest esport of all time in terms of following (1999-2012) in South Korea, being the most followed sport.
Destroying the Overmind was hasty. I always killed off all the other zerg first, and only then I attacked It with 12 battlecruisers and another 12 carriers.
This is exactly what i want to see from a lore video like this, no OP talking nonsense, just pure footage from the game. saddens me that from the 409k views, only 3k decided to like it. great stuff, really good job.
Omg listening to that intro threw me back to when I was a kid. It was my 1st online game I played with the neighbors and if that didn't work we saved up and got ourselves a long ethernet cable and could play on sunny days lol. Good memories
"And far away, on the distant planet Char, Kerrigan, the self-styled Queen of Blades, knew that her time of ascension was at hand." That one still gives me goosebumps. So cool.
Thank you so much for doing this video. I have been wanting to know the entire starcraft story for along time but time but i never got around to play the campaigns. :D
Thank you very much for doing this, i just wanted to do it. Good i found this video first. Also +1 for including the Precusor campaign. Only you should have enabled subtitles.
I played the hell out of StarCraft, at the age 13-14, i actually still remember cheats codes for a number of different things... "Show me the money" increased your crystal / gas resources; "Power Overwhelming" gave you invincibility, taken from something one of the Protoss forces says in game when clicked upon & select to move about...my favorite one as far as phrases is "Black Sheep Wall", which got rid of the fog of war. However; I played it without cheating the first time through, otherwise whats the point? This game brings back quite a bit of nostalgia & memories.
Thank you. I have been looking for a version with the in-game dialogues for a long time! The cinematics from SC1 are quite patchy in explaining the story. I still remember the Overmind dialogues from playing the game 20 years ago, great to see it again!
I love how in the cut scene where Kerrigan is inside the chrysalis you can see a Zerg standing over her. I think that that’s Abathur because in SC2 him and Kerrigan have a conversation saying that he was the one that turned her into the queen of blades. She talks about breaking her bones, and twisting her DNA!!!! I know they didn’t have that planned but it’s cool to see they used that little tiny 4-5 second clip at 41:50 to do some pretty cool stuff in SC2
Appreciate the effort you put in, Ive wanted to revisit Starcrafts story, but I'll admit I'm terrible at RTS games now so I'd have to "power overwhelming" my way through. Much easier to digest like this, and glad you included the ingame dialogue too!
47:35 there is a Part missing. If you go to the signal to unlock the door to the final room the Marines closing the Doors and say that you dont come out alive. i played just to much sc 1 :D
Thank you for this. I am currently playing Starcraft 64 and there is no voice acting, i must read it all. This helps me understand the story. I play it on my Retroid Pocket 3+ that i take with me everywhere i go. This game can make 1 or 2 hours go by quick.
Thank you very much for this upload, It might be a stupid idea with the remastered version inbound, And I have to go through all this again..... BUT!!! Now I understand the story much better, because back when I played SC 1, I didnt understand english at all...... Now i do...
i always wondered why game "movies" never had the mini cutscenes ingame in the video probably cuz its alot of edit work but im glad you did this, cuz i hate sc1 but always wanted to see what happened outside of the main cutscenes
Love the transition from SC1 to SC2 on that kerrigan scene
i don't
It was "pure art"!
You mean when Mengsk abandoned Kerrigan on Tarsonis after her unit got done with taking care of the Protoss backstabber Mengsk that was not nice

+Nomis king np! Broodwar is up next!
Yay! I was hoping so!
Thank you very much for doing this, i just wanted to do it. Good i found this video first.
Also +1 for including the Precusor campaign.
Only you should have enabled subtitles.
Love the touch of adding the cutscenes - well done!
I have to say: A very good conclusion of the Story you made "JaKaTaKtv." Im enjoying much, thanks.
Star Craft is a masterpiece all over the world 🌎 hope more of this next gen find this whole lore and the games . Just pure fun and excitement
This is awesome... Excellent work JakaTak!!
I don't know how you had the time to put this together, but this is amazing. Haven't played the story in years and this was wonderful
tassadar 😢😢😢😢😢 i loved him, he did the most amazing sacrifice
I played the hell out of StarCraft, at the age 13-14, i actually still remember cheats codes for a number of different things... "Show me the money" increased your crystal / gas resources; "Power Overwhelming" gave you invincibility, taken from something one of the Protoss forces says in game when clicked upon & select to move about...my favorite one as far as phrases is "Black Sheep Wall", which got rid of the fog of war. However; I played it without cheating the first time through, otherwise whats the point? This game brings back quite a bit of nostalgia & memories.
Love the transition to sc2 cinematics of kerrigan at New Gettysburg :D
Thank you. I have been looking for a version with the in-game dialogues for a long time! The cinematics from SC1 are quite patchy in explaining the story. I still remember the Overmind dialogues from playing the game 20 years ago, great to see it again!
Thanks a lot for this Jak!
When this game first came out i thought the cutscenes/storyline were the most amazing advanced thing ever in videogames. I was 18-19yrs old
I love how in the cut scene where Kerrigan is inside the chrysalis you can see a Zerg standing over her.
This is fantastic, thanks a lot man!
This is awesome. You did a really great job!
black sheep wall
show me the money
power overwhelming
But grea video! Love this game.
Appreciate the effort you put in, Ive wanted to revisit Starcrafts story, but I'll admit I'm terrible at RTS games now so I'd have to "power overwhelming" my way through.
Much easier to digest like this, and glad you included the ingame dialogue too!
You've done an excellent job with this video, thank you.
Amon whispered of this from the stars...He told you of ruin...Extinction...The end of all things...
That transistion scene with kerrigan was absolute perfection, good job on that
Thanks so much!
i have never played starcraft but im watching this because the story atmosphere is so interesting and epic
Great story and it did feel like a movie, best I found, even included pizza, nicely done. Keep it up :)
That was my first StarCraft
Love the biblical way in which The Overmind speaks
that first part was brutal..
This video deserves A HELL LOTTA MORE LIKES
Used to play this game all the time round 15 years back. Was the shit back then
Thank you very much for this upload,
It might be a stupid idea with the remastered version inbound,
And I have to go through all this again.....
BUT!!!
Now I understand the story much better, because back when I played SC 1, I didnt understand english at all......
Now i do...
This video is very well done. Wpgg
The demo is kinda wild lifelong fan never knew about it before!
Thank you for this nicely collected storyline, :). Thanks for your work.
i always wondered why game "movies" never had the mini cutscenes ingame in the video
probably cuz its alot of edit work
but im glad you did this, cuz i hate sc1 but always wanted to see what happened outside of the main cutscenes
+sunonaro glad to help :)
JaKaTaKtv
yeah the story makes ALOT more sense now
"I know of you well, O Queen of the Zerg." Gets me every time.
It's really funny @ 1:11:38 to see the reaction of Tassadar and the comment of Raynor.
Great editing job. The video clips spread out in the game make a sensible story line when you splice them together like you did.
Thanks a lot. I really enjoyed this.
I dream about a Starcraft Movie...
Raynor sounds high as fuck in the beginning... "Heyyy, we found the plans man..." 😂
